This is the third year Carmelia is doing her parents' taxes. She spent the last two years preaching (no pun intended) to her dad about keeping his receipts more organized. Seems to have fallen on deaf ears, yet again.
Carmelia looks down at her dad's pile of receipts and cringes.
"Dad you said you were going to do better this year. What happened?!" (Carmelia)
"I know. I know. I started off better, but .... (Harold)
"Don't be too hard on him. He really did try." (Dasia)
"Any chance his lovely wife could have helped him out?" (Carmelia)
"You know we have this discussion every year. Harold wants to be in charge of it, so I let him. He knows I am here for him, if he needs me." (Dasia)
"So dad, maybe part of the answer is letting mom help you get organized." (Carmelia)
"Your mom has enough to do." (Harold)
"And so do I. If you were organized, I would be able to spend no more than a couple hours getting your taxes done. With what you have presented today, we are looking at a couple days, minimum." (Carmelia)
"Benji, I'm not sure you can have popcorn." (Carla)
"Grandma, can I give Benji some popcorn?" (Carla)
Dasia doesn't respond.
She is too busy listening in on Carmelia and Harold's conversation.
"Earth to Grandma." (Carla)
"Well let's just get started. No sense in harping on it, now." (Carmelia)
Harold reaches for the pile of receipts and hands them to Carmelia)
"Oh, I'm sorry. What did you say?" (Dasia)
"Can Benji have some popcorn?" (Carla)
"He loves popcorn, but I'm very careful to give him the ones without too much of a husk. Otherwise it could get stuck in his throat. So I'd rather you not give him any." (Dasia)
"Can I give him one of my Girl Scout cookies?" (Carla)
"No. That kind has chocolate in it, and chocolate is poisonous to dogs. Why don't you go downstairs and get him one of his doggy treats?" (Dasia)
"Okay, Dad. You can go now. I'll take it from here." (Carmelia)
"Are you dismissing me?" (Harold)
"There's nothing really for you to do. If I have any questions, I will give you a shout." (Carmelia)
"If you can figure out a way to write off all those new clothes your mom bought last year, I would be most appreciative." (Harold)
"You are going to have to wait until the next commercial. I can't miss my show." (Carla)
"Woof, woof." (Benji)
"Quiet down, Benji." (Dasia)
Harold gets up from the desk. Dasia can see he's a little deflated.
"Honey, you want me to fix you a snack?" (Dasia)
"No. I'm going to hop in the shower, then get some paper work done." (Harold)
Once he leaves the room, Dasia gets up and takes a seat next to Carmelia.
"What can I do to help?" (Dasia)
"The time to help was before now." (Carmelia)
"You know how prideful your dad can be at times. He wanted to show me that he could handle it. I didn't want to step on his toes. You have a husband. You know how difficult they can be." (Dasia)
"I do know, but we women have an uncanny ability to get our husbands to do what we want." (Carmelia)
"Speak for yourself. I like to give my husband the authority he needs to be the man of the house." (Dasia)
"That's so cute. That's that old-fashioned kind of love." (Carmelia)
"Here you go, Benji." (Corey)
"Grandma said he can't have popcorn. You better not give him any." (Carla)
"But he likes it." (Corey)
"Ooooh. You're going to get in trouble." (Carla)
"GRANDMA, Corey is feeding popcorn to Benji!" (Carla)
Carmelia whips around in her chair.
"Corey, did Grandma tell you not to feed popcorn to Benji?" (Carmelia)
"Nooo. She said that to Carla." (Corey)
Silence. Carmelia isn't sure what to say next.
Dasia stands up.
"Alright, how about the three of us take Benji for a walk and let your mom get back to work?" (Dasia)
"Can I hold the leash?" (Corey)
"We will take turns, but you can hold him the longest." (Dasia)
"Yay Benji! We're going for a walk." (Corey)
Did you hear that? Carmelia has a husband. Now that she has an articulated body, I'm ready to introduce her husband. He is someone I purchased early last year. Stay tuned.
Great story! So if I organize my receipts, can I send my stuff to Carmelia to do my taxes?!!! I hate doing taxes, but you are right, it is that time of year! Dasia seems to know the recipe for a successful marriage - she and Harold have been married a long time! Can't wait to see who you picked for Carmelia's husband!
ReplyDeletePhyllis - Thanks. I'm not sure Carmelia is prepared to do any more taxes. It's really not her thing. She's just helping out her parents. Dasia knows her man. I guess that's why they've been happy for so long.
DeleteI wonder who got the part of Carmelia's husband. I hope he is handsome.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that Dasia didn't step in about the receipts. I see her as being kind of bossy at times.
Janainah - Her husband will be kind of unexpected. Dasia is a take-charge kind of woman, but not when it comes to her husband. She manages to get her way with him most of the time, but she does it with kindness.
DeleteFunny I was just thinking husband, I don't ever remember seeing her husband. Can't wait to see him.
ReplyDeleteAG Lanc Up until now her husband has only existed in our imaginations.
DeleteLooks like it doesn't matter when your tax year ends - tax time is the same the world over. And Corey sounds like he takes after his mother and knows how to get around things - I'm sure Benji enjoyed the popcorn.
ReplyDeleteCarrickters - I think even for those getting a refund, tax season is still a drag. Maybe that's why Carmelia didn't know what to say to Corey. He may just be a chip off his mother's block. Of course, that is also something he could have picked up from his dad.
DeleteHello from Spain: I'm looking forward to meeting the husband of Carmelia. She is fabulous. I liked knowing that in your country pay taxes in March. In my country it is in June. In my country it is in June. Benji is lovely eating popcorn. Great pics. I like very much your furniture. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Thanks. Taxes are due by April 15th here in the States, but the smart people file early to lessen the stress a bit. Of course there are many people who wait until the last minute, and many more that file for extensions.
DeleteUf, I hate taxes and all sort of paper work, luckily, I have some help from my boyfriend.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if Carla came with that articulated body or did you rebody her?
Cheers
monstercrafts - Tax time is the worst. No matter how prepared you think you are, you could always be better prepared. Then you get that sigh of relief once it's over. Of course there will be next year when you have to start the process all over again. Carla came on that body. She was a gymnast Janet doll by Mattel. Janet is the AA version of the old Stacie doll.
DeleteI remember those type of Stacie from when I was little. I also used to read a Barbie magazine in the late 90's and I remember that some of Stacie's friends, as well as Skipper. I liked the Skipper from that era, she was more mature than the new Skipper.
DeleteLOL!! I have the same problem with my dad!! My goodness, your dolls file taxes!!! All mine do is spend my money!! Fun post.
ReplyDeleteapril - You poor thing. Carmelia feels your pain. Yes, my dolls have to file taxes. They can't just enjoy all the fun things in life. That is the least they can do considering all the money and time I put into making their lives just so.
DeleteWow, Carmelia is snapping. Lol Poor Harold, I'm sure he really did try. I liked the joke in threw in there about his wife's clothing. Only if. And Corey is just too adorable.
ReplyDeleteadrian - Carmelia doesn't even want to do her own taxes, so fiddling through her parents receipts is not her idea of fun. Especially since she isn't getting paid.
DeleteCarmelia is lovely! And looks a lot with my Dee Gee (recently as Grease Pink Lady "Marty" As In The Live Version).Wich Belinda is that,Vanessa? She's pretty! You keep doing an amazing job creating this photostories.Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteJorge - Thanks. Carmelia does resemble your Dee Gee. I don't know which doll she is. Didn't even know she was called Belinda. I think I bought her as is from a doll show.
DeleteCan't wait to see Carmelita's husband. Come over to Moreville and check out Aaron and Charlotte's wedding. :-)
ReplyDeleteCindi - Yeah, her husband will be an unexpected choice. I enjoyed the wedding and the parties.
DeleteLOL! I do the taxes for my family and this year I told them I would just be doing them for my mom in the future. I wanted to slap one of my sisters in face I was so sick of her and her jacked up records and non existent receipts. 25 plus hours doing other people's taxes - no more!
ReplyDeleteDasia is trying to save her husband's face but she isn't doing her daughter any favors by doing so.
Muff - You are a brave woman. I hate doing my own taxes. I can't imagine doing someone else's. Dasia told me to tell you, she has to live with her husband. Her daughter gets to go home.
DeleteHey x love your stories could you possibly help decide whether my Sylvanian chihuahua baby should be a girl or boy I've made loads of boy stuff for it but I'm now debating whether it should be a girl xx
ReplyDeleteSylvanians - Have you considered twins? That way you could have the best of both worlds.
DeleteI decided to start from the beginning of what I missed instead of reading backwards. I didn't know dog couldn't have chocolate!
ReplyDeleteKenya - No chocolate, no raisins, and no grapes. I'm sure there are others escaping me right now. Raisins and grapes are toxic, but not as deadly as chocolate.
