In the last post, with the shopping carts, I got an idea to put together a toy store. I'm sure I have enough toys here to get started, but more is always better. I wasn't really looking to buy more toys right away, but that decision changed when I stopped by Michael's yesterday. They have a new line of charms that features doll miniatures. They sell for $1.99 each. I had a coupon, so everything I purchased was 20% off.
Here are the eight charms I purchased. Not all of them are toys, but they are all perfect for 1/6 scale.
L to R: Bubble gum machine, glass of pink lemonade (my guess) with a straw and a sliced orange for garnish, a record player, fish bowl with a fish. If I was doing a carnival, I would probably buy a lot of the fish bowls. They are what I remember the most from the local carnivals.
L to R: Bat and ball, hair dryer, toy airplane and headphones.
I put the kids in the picture so you could see the scale of the items.
I found two other interesting items.
A set of Indian sculptures.
They will look nice as decorations in one of the homes.
Next up are teeny tiny dinosaurs. We used to have a museum here in Morristown with a large dinosaur display. These would have shown up in the gift store of the museum. Now they will be used in the toy store.
Perfect scale for our little ones.
I'm hoping to get some time soon to play with the dollies. Maybe by the end of this week.
I purchased those charms for my daughter as a Christmas gift. I thought they were so cute. Didn't give them to her though, decided to use them for Barbie :-) Like the other miniatures.
ReplyDeletesimsgrl - That is too funny! I wasn't expecting you to say you kept them for yourself. I need to keep my eyes peeled for a 50% off sale.
DeleteHello from Spain: I need to go to stores in your city. Fabulous shopping .. We keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Just curious, do you guys have large craft stores in Spain?
DeleteGreat items!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, if you hadn't said that those charms were from a new line I'd have thought they were vintage - they look identical to ones that I remember from the 80s!
jSarie - I agree about some of the charms being recycled. They had a lot more to choose from but nothing I couldn't do without....until they go on sale.
DeleteI need to find more toys for my own dolls. Their toy shelves are pretty bare. You picked up some cute stuff!
ReplyDeleteBarb - It's so much fun looking for all the little stuff. Michael's had a lot more, but they were out of my price range without a good sale. I will keep my eyes open though.
DeleteSo cute. Looks like a trip to Michael's is in order!
ReplyDeletePhyllis - I plan to check out a different Michael's to see if there is more variety.
DeleteThose are cool!! Nicely detailed too.
ReplyDeleteMuff - I need at least 3 more of the lemonades. Waiting for a better sale.
DeleteThe gumball machine, the airplane, and the tiny dinosaurs are my favorites. I might have to look for those. The craft stores have had some really nice stuff lately. Georgia Girl and I bought miniature beach chairs from Hancock Fabrics last weekend.
ReplyDeleteJewell - The dinosaurs are the cutest! I saw those chairs at Hancocks. Almost bought some, but remembered how many I already have. If they are still there when the prices get really good, I may indulge.
DeleteThose are cool items Vanessa. They also have a mini diary. That was the only one that I purchased. I don't recall seeing all of the items that you show above.
ReplyDeleteYes, the beach chairs that Jewell and I purchased are very nice. Hancock is going out of business so we were able to get them for 30% off.
Georgia Girl - I didn't see a diary. I will look for it at a different Michael's. Yes, I saw that Hancocks is folding. I'm waiting for the 50% or better.
DeleteNice finds! I'll have to make a trip to Michael's soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteCindi - I'll be checking for a better sale next week.
DeleteA toy store sounds exciting. I look forward to seeing how you pull it all together.

DBG - I'm currently putting the baby store back together. It will be fun stocking a toy store. Luckily I have quite a few items already.
DeleteToo cute! Your kiddies are soooo lucky to live with you. :D
ReplyDeleteRoville - I tell my kiddies and dolls that all the time. They are not convinced. They are millenial dolls, and they expect this all the time. Lol.
DeleteWhat a great find. I love Michaels. There is so many things that beg for reinterpretation. Your idea for a toy store sounds really cool. Can't wait to see it!!!

DeleteToys for dolls are something I can discuss for hours. :D Sometimes I think that collecting them becomes more interesting for me, than doll collecting. I love your Indian sculptures. I have many Indian dolls 1:6, several Stacie sized indian girls and smaller girls, but no indian dolls for them. I saw Polly Pocket Native American set on eBay though: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Imitation-Polly-Pocket-Native-American-Indians-Compact-Playset-/331835120609?hash=item4d42ea1be1:g:zisAAOSw~oFXFX3Y#ht_426wt_1028 And there are also some indians among the Kinder Surprise figures, but they all look too cartoonish for me.
DeleteGreat finds! Why can't I find this stuff in Spain? The hair dryier could be repainted for a more realistic look, or could use as a toy one for the kids to pretend they're hairdressers.
ReplyDeletemonstercrafts - I like your idea of painting the hair dryer. I think it's a little too big for the kids. I was going to stick it in someone's bathroom.
DeleteIf you repaint it show us the result, please.
DeleteI've seen you asked someone else if we have large craft stores in Spain, and I can answer that. If you mean like Hobby Lobby, no, we don't have anything like that, not that I know. I get some craft supplies like popsicles sticks at the equivalent of a dollar store and the craft paint at fine art supplies shops. I have hard time finding certain things where I live, which is a 40.000 population city. Bigger cities probably have more variety of stores that sell things like scrapbook paper and other stuff, but they're not chain stores. Hope this answered your question.
