Are you guys still with me? I told you we would be going warp speed. This is the second post for the day. You can see the first post here. I have another one ready, but I will wait for tomorrow. LOL! I didn't have any coffee today. I figured you guys needed me to slow down a bit.
If you recall, Vanessa was in charge of getting the DJ and selecting music for the DD dance. Well she chose her friend Rohan to do the honors. Rohan is originially from New Orleans. One of the sweetest guys you would ever want to meet.
Rohan is sporting a Limbe Dolls handmade, removable wig. This is one of the very special gifts I received from her at the doll show a couple of weeks ago. Isn't it wonderful? I had intended to put it on a lady, but once I tried it on Rohan, that was all she wrote. Since it is removable, I will be able to use it on other dolls as well. Visit Limbe Dolls Store to see the beautiful dolls she have available for sale. I think she will be selling wigs, like this one in the near future. I will be sharing one of her dolls with you in a future post.
Do you see the muscles on this dude?
I don't know who this woman is. She just showed up as I was taking pictures. There is always a groupie or two, hanging around those music guys.
This is actually Pop Life Christie head on Halle Berry's old body. I think I will let her stick around.
This is what Rohan looked like before his hair transformation. I bought him at the last doll show for $7. He is a grenade throwing GI Joe guy.
DJ Rohan is awesome. Love the wig and hope Limbe offers some for sale soon. I can use about 3 of them.
ReplyDeleteNow I have to dig out my men. Love the way the soldiers used to look.
He looks so cool in that wig!! I've been coveting him but I haven't found him new for a decent price and used...haven't found him without a lot of scratches.
ReplyDeleteThey look cool posed together, Christie looks like a singer! That would be a HOT duo! I'm gettin' a Groove Theory vibe (turntables instead of keyboard). You have some great stuff, I'm truly enjoying myself on your blog. Can't wait to see the next story/video. :)
Dollz4moi - He is one of my few GI Joe men. There is something about his eyes. That's why I made him from New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteTracy - I guess I really lucked out then. He was brand new for that price. I had never seen him before. I never pay attention to the GI Joe men since they are shorter, but sometimes it's not about height.
ReplyDeleteChristie does look like a singer! Maybe she will perform at the DD dance.
Oh, Vanessa, you have black Gi Joe figures. I have a some kind of dilemma about them. You see, I have too many black kids and teens and rather many black female dolls, but not so many male dolls and figures, and I want to have more of them, so my kids and females can get fathers and husbands. Of course I can buy Mattel Steven and AA Ken dolls, they are cheap and always available on eBay, but they all have the same face with a big smile, which I'm pretty tired of. And besides most of them are not jointed at all, especially those Steven dolls from 90s, who all have the horrible "beach" body. And one more thing I don't like about them: I have many teen and preteen dolls, so their fathers should not look very young and Mattel black males usually do. So my choice is action figures. They have many different faces, they don't smile, they are usually jointed (though I have a couple of caucasian figures, who are not jointed, and one with jointed arms only) and many of them look old enough to be teen fathers. OK, but there are no black action figures in Russia at all, so I go to eBay for them. I like Power Team black guys and have several of them now, but they are rare and I'm not sure I'll be able to find more of them (especially with faces I don't have yet) in the nearest future. So I began to think about the Gi Joe figures. There are many of them on eBay, most of them are jointed and look old enough... Everything I want for my girls' husbands, except of one thing: they are too short! I have one Gi Joe and he looks silly and funny with Barbie dolls. I even think about buying a Gi Jane wife for him. I hate their molded hair, but maybe they will look fine together... Not sure, I never saw a Gi Jane figure in real life, but it is logical. But my Barbie and Janay dolls still need husbands, so I'm thinking about the Gi Joe figures again. Sometimes I think the height is not so important, there are such couples in real life and they can be happy, and sometimes I begin to think, that it looks too silly, when there are many of them around. Maybe it's normal to have one or two couples, where the wife is taller, but not many of them. So I still don't know what to do. :) It's really a problem. :)
ReplyDeleteDukasha - It is a real dilemma. I think I only have 2 or 3 GI Joe men for that very reason. When I bought this guy I was thinking that he was a little taller than the average GI Joe guy, but not so much. But I am okay with having one of two short men in the bunch. Now that I have LIV bodies, I can pair them up with a Barie headed LIV Doll. But Rohan is not tied down to anyone. I don't forsee him settling down anytime soon. I imagine he will have lots of ladies in his life especially with a body like that.
ReplyDeleteI think you are going to have to learn how to customize your own dolls. I just saw some flickr pictures from a guy who customizes 16" dolls. His guys are phenomenal. Here is a link to one of his photos where he redid all of the male dolls. http://www.flickr.com/photos/92176705@N00/5744617043/in/faves-vansdolltreasures/ I need to start getting creative too. The most I have ever done is add a moustache and a beard. There are also companies that sell mostly Action Figures. They are a little pricier at times, but you can get some nicely sculpted dolls. When I run across something good, I will let you know.
Hey, I have this guy but he really looks different with the wig! WOW! He has light color eyes. Yeah, I need to break him out! He would be nice with a shell necklace like the one Cali Blaine wears. Christe look like a poser! You know that type of women...trying catch the spotlight. Yeah, GI Joes are shorter but some are really nice! I also need to break out my DJ equipment. You alway inspire me!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to put the wig to good use. I really go for guys with short dreads and Rohan is phyne!
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo - Yes he has those eyes that make him just a little scary, but very sexy. Scary because you know if he looks at you he can talk you into doing some things you had no intention on doing. The necklace is a good idea. I may have to make him something in the future. Christie is definitely wearing that body well!
ReplyDeletelimbe dolls - I put the wig on him that very same day and that is where it stayed. It definitely added to his level of sexiness. You and Tracy have amazed me with the number of different ways you can spell FINE. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI like this background and format. I posted a comment on this blog yesterday that appeared to post, but I guess it did not. I commented that I love DJ Rojan's wig... fabulous job limbe dolls (I'm adding this now)... that Christie is much taller than the short-in-stature DJ Rohan ... and that height is probably only a number to cling-on (I'm adding that adjective now) groupie girls.
ReplyDelete:-)
dbg
PS Thanks for the HBD wishes. I had a wonderful day.
DBG - I'm still playing with the new format. I have to do a little at a time or everything just goes haywire. I always think of Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri and Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise when I feel the tall woman, short man thing doesn't work well. When they have ripped abs like that and pretty eyes, sometimes I make concessions. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh my, not sure about the wig but I can see it will work. I just won him on ebay, he is going to be named Marcus. I can't wait to see which one of your single ladies he will end up with.
ReplyDeleteBrini - Congrats on your win. I think he will be a floater for a while, unless that perfect woman just shows up. It could happen.
ReplyDeleteYou know you can make two characters with this action figure now. You can do a kinda Patty Duke thing!
ReplyDeleteHi Dukasha. I never realized how lucky we are here. We do get a good selection of dolls in the US But many of the action figures I see and have purchased on eBay I never see here. I don't think many of the 12" action figures are sold in the toy stores here; at least not now. Shelf space in toy stores is very price for toy companies. From what I have seen on action figure sites, many action figures only show up in Asia. You would have to go to an action figure convention to see them in person.
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo and Dukasha - Every year they have a huge GI Joe/Action Figure show here in Atlanta. I have gone once, but at the time, I was not collecting Action Figures. I really need to go again. I think I would find some interesting characters. I am sure they probably sell taller AF, too. Ms. Leo, good idea about the Patty Duke thing. I'm not sure I need to be adding anything else to my jam packed list of things to do, unless you guys want 3 posts per day. OR unless you are taking that Assistant position I am trying to fill. LOL.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, thanks. I think it's a good idea to pair up Gi Joe figures with Barbie dolls, who have LIV bodies, but I don't think I'll give such a body to any of my dolls. You see, I'm absolutely crazy about the idea of her/his own clothes for every doll, and about the idea of perfectly fitting clothes, so if I do any body swapping, I always care about the same height, proportions and so on, so the doll can still wear her/his original clothes (and other clothes if she/he has it) without any problems. Even rebodiing regular Stacies to jointed Stacie bodies is a problem, because they are thinner, but kids' clothes is usually rather loose, so it can fit both types of Stacie body and look well enough. Btw, I've read in Barbie Bazaar a couple of years ago, that Raven doll's legs are ½-inch shorter, than regular Barbie legs. Is it really so?
ReplyDeleteI have one Gi Joe already and I'm sure I'll have at least one more, but I have six Janay dolls (and going to buy more, I'm in love with Janays) and several AA Barbie dolls, who need husbands and I have no idea, where to take them from. :) I think there are many black action figures I just don't know about, but I also don't know, how to search for information, if I know nothing about them. :) It would be good if AA PowerTeam figures appear more often on eBay, but they don't.
As for customizing dolls, I don't have a talent for it. Of course there are artists in Russia, who make it for other people, if they pay for their work, but I always think, that such dolls are not suitable for play any more, they should just stand on a shelf and that's all. Though I like to look at the photos of such dolls sometimes. I like this for example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/therealbigjosh/4864694250/
Ms. Leo, hi, glad to talk with you. Yes, it's Russia, and we don't have many beautiful dolls and figures here, but now the situation is not so bad. We didn't have any fashion dolls at all until the beginning of 90s. I got my first Barbie doll, when I was 16 years old. And now we have Fashionista Barbie and Ken dolls, some of "I can be…" sets and some others. There are also some collection Mattel and Tonner dolls here, but they are usually very expansive. We have many Bratz and Moxie dolls, but I'm not very fond of big-heads. We also have Power Team figures, but not the black ones. Black dolls and figures are always a problem in Russia… Well, I can't say we don't have them at all. We have Artsy dolls among other Fashionista Barbies, but they are rare. We have black Bratz and Moxie dolls, which I don't need, black BFC doll – Calista and black Juku Couture doll – Kana. We had some Nikki (Barbie friend) and Christie dolls in previous years, some Janet and Nikki (Teen Skipper friend) dolls in 90s, we had (and still have sometimes) some of AA Kelly dolls and very rarely – Tommy dolls. I even managed to buy a Steven doll in 90s, but it was a great rarity at that time. AA Kelly dolls were also a great rarity at that time though, and there were no any AA Tommy dolls at all. My favorite black doll had a son, but I couldn't really give her a son, because I couldn't find a black boy doll and even a black girl doll to make a boy of her. Later the situation became better, I bought two AA Ken dolls and two AA Flavas dolls in Moscow stores, I found a black Tommy doll and Happy Family set of one-year-old kids with a nice little black boy… I also bought two nice AA Kelly dolls. But we never had any AA Skipper dolls and any AA sets with Barbie and her sisters, which I love so much (or better to say I love black Stacie dolls in those sets). We don't have any SiS dolls and AA High School Musical dolls (though we have some caucasian HSM characters), which I also love. We don't have any black action figures at all. So I was really happy, when I learned about eBay and began to buy all those AA Skipper, Stacie, Todd, SiS, HSM dolls… :) Btw we didn't have PayPal in Russia until 2006 of something like that, but now we have it (only for sending, not receiving money, but I'm not a seller and it doesn't bother me), so it's easy to buy dolls on eBay, especially, if you know English well enough. Of course, there are always sellers, who have just what you want, but ship "US only", but there are much more dolls, which you can buy. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I realize, that there are dolls and figures, which are not available even on eBay. Well, it's impossible to have everything. :)
Vanessa, it should be interesting to visit such a show. I wonder, why they don't make those Gi Joe figures a little taller? It seems to me it would be good for their popularity, because those short men look bad not only with female dolls, but also with other male figures, which are taller. Though Gi Joe figures seem to be popular enough with the appearance they have. But there are no any Gi Joe figures in Russia of course…
ReplyDeleteDukasha - I don't think there is a popularity issue with GI Joes. Those guys are just as crazed about their GI Joes as we are with our Barbies. And they have GI Janes, they are not concerned about Barbie. They have incredible jeeps and helicopters and all sorts of great accessories. Changing their size would probably cause more problems than it's worth. The companies that are making 12"+ dolls need to add a little more variety to their lines.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are Gi Janes and so on, but many doll collectors like different types of dolls and figures at the same time. I don't collect Mattel dolls only, but have many other kid and teen dolls, some non-Mattel female dolls, and male action figures and I always dislike, when dolls of different companies look bad together. I think those people who collect action figures only, may not bother about Barbie and other fashion dolls, but why should they all collect Gi Joes only? There are many other interesting figures. I'm not a specialist in AF at all and maybe there are other short figures, but those, which I have, are all taller, so my only Gi Joe looks strange and really not good among them. And well, Mattel changed Barbie's body several times, they made that "short BBB" in 2008 and then returned the normal body again and they thought that was all OK, though she also has so many clothes, accessories and everything. I heard Gi Joes had different body types also, but it looks like they were all very short. It's really sad for me.
ReplyDeleteDukashs - I missed your earlier post. I like Adventure Josh. When I think of GI Joe, I think of a lot of middle aged men with their collections. I just don't see them being concerned about height. By the way, LIV dolls have some really nice clothes, but they may not be readily available in Russia. Their clothes are a lot better than what Mattel has been putting out the past couple of years. I think Raven is shorter than the average Barbie, because she is meant to be an older teenager, not an adult. I think your best bet is the AA Power Team guys, which don't seem to be readily available, but I will keep my eyes open for you. Customized dolls, done correctly, are definitely for play in my book. My motto has always been, when I can't find what I want, I will make it.... and play with it. Stay positive, we will find your Janay women some men. Have you considered Darius Reid? He is more pricey, but if you want height, he definitely has that!
