Angelica makes an early exit from Lauren's family dinner. She has a college paper due, and she still has quite a bit of work left to do.
Angelica is typing away on her computer. The words are flowing and she's feeling pretty good about her paper. Suddenly there's a knock on the door. Angelica doesn't even look up as she says,
"Come in."
Faith enters carrying Nina, Angelica's daughter.
"I have a delivery for you." (Faith)
"Hey munchkin. I see you are still wide awake." (Angelica)
"Yep, but mom said it was time for her to go to bed." (Faith)
"I guess it is about that time. Can you just put her in her crib? I'll get her in a minute." (Angelica)
Angelica goes back to her paper, as Faith gives Nina a goodnight kiss and sets her in her crib.
"Are you going to lay down or play with Mr. Froggy?" (Faith)
"Froggy?" (Nina)
"Okay. Well goodnight." (Faith)
"Thanks, Faith." (Angelica)
"No problem. Good luck on your paper" (Faith)
"Thanks." (Angelica)
Nina plays with Mr. Froggy for a hot minute before she is ready to get out of her crib.
"Mommy, out." (Nina)
"Hold on, mommy's coming. Let me just finish this paragraph." (Angelica)
Angelica rolls over to the crib. She's still adjusting to being a student and a young mother. She knows how lucky she is to get the opportunity to go back to school and try to make life better for her and Nina. It doesn't make it any easier though.
"Let's get you dressed for bed." (Angelica)
Angelica grabs Nina's sleeper and a pamper, from the closet.
Once she gets her dressed, she starts singing her favorite lullaby. By the third time singing it, Nina is fast asleep.
Angelica lays her in her crib.
She stares at her for a few minutes. She loves watching her sleep. She's so peaceful and innocent in those moments.
She then turns off the top light and continues working by lamp light. She figures one more hour, and she will be finished.
Nina is ridiculously cute! Do you remember which doll/playset she came in? She has a lively expression.
ReplyDeleteI like how Angelica switches gears from student to mother. Yes, I can see how it isn't easy, but it's admirable to see her do it. Do wonder where Daddy is ... guess we'll find out later.
Love the nursery/bedroom, too.
D7ana - Nina is part of the Nursery Teacher playset. I did an entire post on that little cutie. You can see it here http://vansdolltreasures.blogspot.com/2012/10/new-playsets-found-at-grocery-store.html
DeleteYou know daddys be popping up out the blue over here, so we will see if he ever shows up
That bedroom set is great! Did you repaint it? Is it one of those Gloria ones or a Mattel version?
ReplyDeleteMuff - Everything in that room was repainted. The three pieces are from three different old Mattel playsets. The desk was actually a vanity with a mirror. It used to be beige. So was the bed. Now that I think about it, maybe the desk (vanity) and the bed were from the same playset.
DeleteA young woman balancing motherhood and college. That's determination! It was nice of Lauren to let her stay with her family.
ReplyDeleteVerona - When I was at college, there was a girl there with a little baby. We all adopted him as our own. I was so impressed with his mom's determination to get her Chemical Engineering degree.
DeleteHola, una historia muy real, me encantan tus accesorios.
ReplyDeletelindaivette - Gracias. Quiero que mis historias para inspirar a alguien que pueda estar lidiando con situaciones similares.
DeleteLove Angelica's room! That is great that motherhood is not holding her back from preparing for a future for herself and Nina.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia Girl - Thanks! I'm happy that someone believes in her and that she believes in herself. Often times young mothers don't get the support that she is getting from her family.
DeleteThis is so adorable and Angelica reminds me of those Dollar Store Cuties you posted in the apple pie post!
ReplyDeleteKenyaDoll - Thanks. She does resemble the dollar store girls. Maybe they are related. Who knows?
DeleteHi Vanessa! I have really enjoyed the furniture in the room. And the baby is adorable. Angelica is going to do great. a kiss
ReplyDeletekarmen - Thanks. I'm glad you like her bedroom. It's small, but comfy and perfect for her and Nina.
ReplyDeleteHello from Spain: I like the wheelchair desk. Is this it original of Mattel or do you paint it? Nice room. Nina is adorable. Nice picture and very real with less light. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Thanks. The desk is part of a Mattel vanity that I painted. It used to be beige and white.
DeleteI have a photo album of just sleeping pictures. They are too cute when they are asleep.
ReplyDeleteKenya - Awww, that's so sweet. They grow up so fast, unless they are in doll world.
DeleteI like the room! I agree that often young women with children don't usually get the support that they need. It is nice to see I happen.
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo - Thanks! Angelica is grateful and trying to make the most of this new opportunity.
DeleteIt looks so cozy in her room. Angelica is setting a great example for Nina. Three generations are sticking together and supporting one another. Two questions:
ReplyDelete1. Who is her mom
2. What house is she talking about?
Grandmommy - Rofl! That was supposed to say 'hour', not 'house'. All fixed now. Her mom and dad do not live in Morristown, but who knows, one of them may come visit one day.
DeleteWoman of determination. I love it, and that baby is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteEve - Yes, Angelica is going to make it happen!
DeleteAngelica is very brave in going back to "school" being a mum... I love that dio, the crib is just perfect and I think you created a cozy but also functional space.
ReplyDeleteRossetti - Thanks. She's truly blessed to have so much family support. Both being a mom and going to school are hard. Doing them at the same time is quite challenging.
DeleteLove the baby and the bedroom. I used to enjoy watching my god-daughter when she slept - peaceful and quiet - which is what she wasn't the rest of the time! LOL :-)
ReplyDeleteCindi - Thanks. Sleeping babies are the best. lol. They can be a handful when they are awake.
DeleteIt's always easier to be a student and young mother if you get support from family and friends. I hope she gets her paper finished.
ReplyDeleteCarrickters - You are so right. Hopefully Angelica takes advantage of this blessing and does well in school.
DeleteNice story. It´s godd to see a young mother work very hard, good luck for both ;)
ReplyDeleteAna - Thanks. She knows this is a huge opportunity and she doesn't want to blow it.
DeleteMother & student. Now that's what I call a multitasking! Love to watch sleeping children. They look so angelic.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, love angelica x
ReplyDeleteSylvanians - Thanks!
