If you read my post from two days ago, entitled "I'm Not Taking Me Shopping Again", you know that my doll alter ego assisted me in buying a diffuser from Marshall's for $8. The only reason I went along with the purchase is because the vase of flowers was really cute and we felt we could use the inside packaging to make a quick sofa.
This is the item I purchased.
Here is a quick setup using the box as a sofa. I didn't make pillows for it yet. These were just extras I had hanging around. I wanted to quickly do something in case you wanted to go buy your own. I will probably get one more. They really had some pretty colors available.
I cut pieces from the box to make legs. These are cut a little high for Barbie sized, but it was perfect for my FR dolls. I forgot to take a picture from the back. The sofa back is not secured but it held up really nicely. I imagine a piece of cardboard or foamcore could be attached to secure it if need be. But it didn't seem to be necessary. I haven't figured out what to do with the gold writing on the front. The options are endless there too. I just haven't thought that far ahead. The main downside is the slippery surface. It makes it hard for the pillows to stay in place. I put a little piece of double-sided tape to hold them in place. This could get a little irritating. With a little more thought, I can probably figure that out, too.
Initially I had this for Halle. She may still get it after I cut the sofa legs down a wee bit. At the moment I have given it to Dominique.
Here I am showing the sofa with all white to show it's diversity. These box sofas will be great interim sofas while the dolls wait for me to make them sofas. (LOL. We know how long that could take. They may want to get a little comfortable.)
I had to give my doll alter ego a pat on the back. She did well with this one. She may get to go shopping with me again after all.
The sofa looks fantastic! Great job on it. Makes me wanna go out and look for that diffuser! I love the whole room. That black coffee table is really cool.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!!! It doesn't seem a box at all!
ReplyDeleteChynadoll - They had about 6 different versions at my Marshall's. On another note, I am watching Sesame Street and Elmo just did a segment on saving money. He was jamming. When he did the body roll, I fell out laughing. I wanted to tell someone and you came to mind.
ReplyDeleteRosetti - For a quick sofa, it works perfectly.
This looks really nice! I'm curious how you'll handle the writing on it.
ReplyDeleteHey It's Muff - Thanks. As for the writing, the sky is the limit. I could add a coordinating ribbon or fabric that will completely cover it up. I could probably match that paint and just paint over it. Or I could play it up, get a gold pen marker and add decorative scrolls.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great.
ReplyDeleteWhat writing? I didn't see any.
dbg
DBG - Thanks. The gold writing is on the front blue part slightly to the left. It says lavender which is the fragrance included.
ReplyDeleteYou did not make that fantastic looking sofa out of a box?! Ok, I've got to pay more attention to the packaging of the items I buy! A diffuser, is now on my list...LOL. I love it! You're so creative.
ReplyDeleteTracy - Thanks. In less than 10 minutes I had a new sofa. A third of that time was pulling it out of the box. If I hadn't seen the sofa opportunities while in the store, I never would have bought it.
ReplyDeleteWow! That sofa looks great! You gotta love the mind of a one-sixth addict! You can see the possibilities in everything!
ReplyDeleteVita Plastica - Thanks. I think most of us addicts see in 1/6 scale before we see in any other scale. LOL! We can turn just about anything into a doll prop.
ReplyDeleteThat's very clever. My sister would love you, she is a paper, box, etc recycling queen. She reads your blog too! I went to Marshall yesterday and didn't see them which means I get to go again.
ReplyDeleteBrini - Tell your sister I said hello. These were located near the cash registers in my store. Good luck finding them.
ReplyDeleteWow Vanessa, this amazing! I saw your vision in the first post, but I never thought it could turn out this nice. I love it. As fir the hold writing, I didn't notice until I read your post. I need to go check out Marshalls. I have seen them before, but never paid them any attention.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
Georgia Girl - Thanks. You can thank my alter ego. She was the one who kept me looking. The writing isn't that big of a deal to me. I may fix it. I may not. They had a pretty rose colored one that you would probably like. Good luck finding them.
ReplyDeleteHermosa idea! Me encantan tus muñecas, las fotos son fabulosas.
ReplyDeleteFelicitaciones.
Besos
Maguinda - Muchas gracias! Bienvenido a mi blog!
ReplyDeleteYou do have an eye for...beautiful Vanessa. It is lovely! Luv
ReplyDeleteLoretta - Thanks! I have been able to see eye to eye with Barbie for quite some time. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe box sofa looks great. Love the gold and cream pillows you have with it. Thank your Mini-V doll for pointing that potential out.
ReplyDeleteWell, aren't you clever!!! Great eye, alter ego. LOL
ReplyDeleteD7ana - Mini-V says you are welcome!
ReplyDeleteDawn - Hi! Thanks for visiting and commenting. Well you know, all of my dolls can't afford sofas from VansDollTreasures, so I have to give them the low cost option. LOL!
I just picked up one of these today. After reading your blog I went looking the next day but didn't find them at all. Then I was out at the craft store and decided to go over to marshall's and I looked in the back by the plates and stuff and low and behold there they were. My store only had two versions. The one you got and a deep blue one which I bought. Stay tuned to check it out.
ReplyDeleteApril - Can't wait to see it. I went to TJ and they had a lot of different ones. I picked up 2 more. One that you will see soon at the ski lodge. The second one I will give to Halle. Not sure when we will see that one.
