For my new readers, David is Leslie's husband. He owns the local gym. He enjoys working with young kids in his spare time.
Here he is with a small group of 8 and 9 yr old, who wish to learn the game of basketball.
"Okay guys, last week we spent time going over the rules of the game and we worked on our dribbling."
"Today you will practice your dribbling. Then we will learn a little about shooting and passing the ball. When we get to passing, you will be working in pairs. I will work with one of you, since we only have five people." (David)
"Do you want to work with me?" (Tyler)
"No. I'm working with Shannon." (Nikaya)
"Everyone grab a ball and hold on to it."
"Nikaya and Shannon, why are you sitting down?" (David)
"We just thought we would rest a little, Mr. David." (Nikaya)
"But you haven't done anything, yet. Let's go! Up on your feet. Everyone spread out." (David)
"When I blow the whistle, you can pick up your ball and start your dribbling. No two handed dribbling, please. And you need to practice with both hands. When it's time to stop, I will blow the whistle again. So make sure you are paying attention."
"On your mark, get set...." (David)
David blows the whistle and the dribbling begins!
Note: The blue wall things are micro fiber cleaning sponges from the Dollar Tree.
Such a great idea for the blue wall pads! I'm glad you told us what they were because I was staring and wondering the whole time!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun activity for the little ones!
Tabitha - Thanks. When I first saw them I thought yoga pads or napping pads at the daycare. They will serve many uses.
DeleteCute! Love the use of the blue pads
ReplyDeleteChynadoll - Thanks! Brings back middle school memories.
DeleteHello from Spain: I like David. The gym It is very real. How many children have such ideals as Tyler and Nikaya. I like everyboy. my favorite is Shannon. What a good idea what the blue sponge on the wall. In the previous post, the plate of cookies is very well done. You have many skills. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Thanks. I'm trying to get a few more kid stories going. I have so many kids.
DeleteThis definitely brings back memories. I had a short stint in 6th grade on a bball team. I never could master dribbling without looking. My career in bball ended abruptly with an elbow to the nose! Lol Maybe a good coach would have changed things!
ReplyDeleteveda - Ouch! I felt that all the way over here. David would have helped you through your issues.
DeleteLOVE IT!!!!!!
ReplyDeletemustiwait - Thanks!
DeleteDitto for me when I say this brings back lots of memories. Fun memories! :)
ReplyDeleteVerona - I never played basketball. I was always the one keeping score and stats. Glad this could elicit good memories for you.
DeleteHow cute!! I'm glad he has patience for that age group, they always have something to say.
ReplyDeleteBrini - Thanks. He loves it. This age group is better then the 12 and up crew.
DeleteAs soon as I saw the girls sitting on the balls, I started cracking up. You should really be working in Hollywood, Vanessa. Your imagination is so creative yet realistic. : )
ReplyDeleteDebbie - Thanks! I have never had my own kids, but I know how they operate. I've always made it a point just to observe kids of all ages. They are very interesting characters.
DeleteCute story.
ReplyDeleteI immediately recognized the microfiber towels. They work well to remove pet hair.
dbg
DBG - Thanks. I didn't know you had pets. I guess I should have bought some to use for cleaning. Oh well.

ReplyDeleterafinha - Thanks for commenting and welcome to my blog. Lots more is coming!
DeleteLOL, the two kids who sat down before any physical activity even began... that was totaly me in school. I agree with Marta, you have many skills... like Xena.
ReplyDeleteHey It's Muff - LOL! So you were one of those kids. They were always there. If given the chance, they would have stayed sitting and chatting during the whole practice.
DeleteLike Hey It's Muff, I identify with Nikaya and Shannon. I would run in the other direction from the ball, lol. My strategy was to NOT get hit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about the blue pads as mats. I admire your creativity. Thanks for sharing it ;-D
D7ana - ROFL! Did you think you were playing dodge ball? That is too funny.
DeleteGood to see David investing his time in mentoring youth. Very cute story!
ReplyDeletelimbe dolls - Thanks. David loves working with the kids and the sports. He worked with the kids with the flag football, too. He will be ready when Ciana and Joseph get a little older.
ReplyDeleteI was giggling the whole time looking at the kids. I liked when they were in place with their balls at their feet.
ReplyDeleteGwen
Gwen - David has a soft spot for the kiddies, just like you do.
ReplyDeleteYou are so freakin' creative! One woman's micro fiber cleaning pads is another woman's blue things!
ReplyDeleteKenya - LOL! My brain is just trained to think in miniature scale.
