A Visit To The Music Store

This is a quick dio I put together to take pictures of the latest piano, before shipping it out.  This dio was assembled outside, so I didn't waste a lot of time with details knowing it had to come down right after picture taking.

Colton owns the local music store.  He works there, when he's not out performing.  Let's take a quick look at his store.

He has the usual assortment of instruments and accessories.  The two guitars on the wall are magnets that I attached to wood.

Directly across from the guitars and microphones, are the drum sets.  In the middle are a couple of karaoke machines.  Back in the back you can see a couple of keyboards.

In the corner are the pianos.

Antoinette arrives with the kids.  They are there to look at a violin for Nikaya.

"Oooh Mommy.  Look at the drums."  (Zahara)

"Can we buy a drum set?"  (Zahara)

"Certainly not."  (Antoinette)

"Well, I will give you a call when that comes in."  (Colton)
"And you said that would be about a week?"  (Becky)
"At least."  (Colton)

Colton heads over to help the Taylors.

"How can I help you, today?"  (Colton)
"Would you happen to have any violins on hand?"  (Antoinette)
The girls have scooted off to explore.

Zahara gets a closer look at the drum set.

Nikaya has taken a seat at the piano.

She starts playing the nursery tune, Mary Had A Little Lamb.

"I am so sorry."  (Antoinette)
"No problem.  Sounds like she knows what she is doing."  (Colton)

"Did Mommy say you could play that?  You're going to get in trouble."  (Zahara)

Nikaya ignores her and continues playing.  Antoinette and Colton make their way over.

"Looks like you have a natural on your hands."  (Colton)

"Where did you learn how to play that?"  (Antoinette)
"At school."  (Nikaya)

"Mommy, can I take piano lessons?"  (Nikaya)
"You want to do piano and violin?  Are you sure that's not going to be too much?"  (Antoinette)
"No, I can do it."  (Nikaya)

"I'm going to go get that violin ready for you."  (Colton)
"Okay, thanks."  (Antoinette)

"Zahara, don't hit the keys so hard."  (Antoinette)
"Mommy, can I take lessons, too?"  (Zahara)

"I don't see why not.  We'll have to call Ms. Vanessa to see if we can get on her schedule.  But right now we need to go look at this violin and get out of here."  (Antoinette)

Back at the register...

"This is our top selling violin for beginners."  (Colton)
"Do you have a 'rent to own' option?  I don't want to buy it, until I know for sure she is going to stick with it."  (Antoinette)
"Yes, we have a great program geared specifically to the schools."  (Colton)

"Here you go, Nikaya.  Why don't you give it a try?"  (Colton)

Nikaya shows off her limited skills with the violin.  Antoinette fills out the appropriate paper work, and pays for the deposit and the first month's rental fee.

A little later, after the store closes, Colton sits down and plays a few tunes before heading home for the night.

  1. Is That My Piano? I hope so! Oh, hurry up post office! I love the dio. I can see how it will work with my dolls here. I think I have just the right place for it to go first. BTW who gets the other piano?

    1. Ms. Leo - Yep, that's yours and it's on the way. The other piano was my first prototype that my alter ego Vanessa owns.

  2. That piano is a work of art! I should dig out my doll's violin too, and get someone around here to play it. Hopefully, Nikaya won't get too in over her head playing 2 instuments. From experience, it can be pretty confusing!

    1. Verona - Finally someone will play that violin. I wouldn't mind having a few more in different styles. I think Nikaya will know pretty quickly if she's in over her head.

  3. Great job on the piano! And super cute dio and photostory. I love all of your instruments. You have quite a few pieces. A dolly friend of mine has plans to do a music store dio and she would kill (not really) to have the pieces that you have here. I can't wait to share this with her.

Congratulations Ms Leo on getting a fine piece of furniture! I am excited fir you.

    1. Georgia Girl - Thanks! I was excited she asked for a black one. Luckily I had all the music stuff in one container, so it was easy to put this together.

    1. Cindi - Thanks. One of the drums and keyboards came from a Justin Bieber playset. Here is the link to the post I did about it. http://vansdolltreasures.blogspot.com/2012/09/15-bieber-playsets-at-big-lots.html
The red drum set is a Bratz drum. You can see the whole set here. http://www.amazon.com/Bratz-Rock-Angelz-Band-Instruments/dp/B0007YDBWS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1378001223&sr=8-4&keywords=bratz+drum+set

  7. Hello from Spain: you do great post and very often. I need to know the trick. I never I have time to create the scenes. I have ideas, but I lack the time. The music store is fabulous and full of very real musical instruments. I'm really impressed. You always have the best furniture. I wish you and I lived in the same city. I'm sure we could share purchases of accessories for our Barbies. I like the skirt and bag Antoinette is wearing. They are awesome. Keep in touch

    1. Marta - Thanks. The trick is organization, and movable walls. All of this stuff was in one storage container, so it was quick to put it up and take it down. Very few of my walls are permanently attached, so when I need a quick wall, I may take it from an existing dio. Antoinette's skirt is from an Etsy seller, who is no longer selling. I bought quite a few skirt outfits from her. The bag was a gift, but I think it was part of a Fashion Royalty doll set.

    1. limbe dolls - Thanks. Colton is part of the Grand Ol' Opry duo set. I found it NRFB on ebay for $18. He's fully articulated, the lady is not. But the ladies outfit is really nice, too.

  9. Does Colton accept orders from Italy? I'd buy everything he has in his store! Cool! And cool outfit! It reminds me George Michael in his after WHAM period

    1. Sergio - Colton cracked up when he heard you wanted to buy everything in the store. He only caters to the locals, though. I loved George Michael!

  10. The store is so cool! The lighting in your pics is great. I have to work on that. I think you should turn this into a photo story and play a little of your own music...what do you say?

  11. Hi Vanessa,

Another great piano. Mrs. McDade(Happy Family Grandma)is enjoying hers. In my dollie world it once belonged to her mother. It is also the very one in which her mother taught her to play. Have you started designing the four post bed yet? I still want my crib. I almost flipped when I saw the pooh and monogrammed bedding you created. LOVED IT.

    1. AG Lanc - I'm so happy your dolls are still creating great music on their piano. As soon as I finish this next crib, I will start designing that bed. At least that's the plan. Today, I am making about 5 more crib sets. They are fun to put together.

  12. Though you say you didn't detail it much, the result was realistic and looks great, especially your handmade pianos! Nikaya is really a gifted little lady, I'm sure she'll cope with both piano and violin.

    1. Rossetti - Thanks. I think Nikaya will do just fine, and even if she doesn't continue both instruments, it will still be a great experience for her.

Waw ! I love all your instruments. Where did you get them ? I have the violon from Barbie, but the other ... I don't have them.
You have the same idea like me, because I will make an episode with music !
We have to work together !
    See you soon !

    1. Shasarignis - Thanks. The drums are from Justin Bieber and Bratz. One of the keyboards is Justin Bieber. I can't remember where the other one is from. The pink karoake machine is Mattel. I have a Barbie that can be attached and her mouth moves as though she's singing. The small flute and trumpet are dollhouse miniatures. I think I got the sax from the dollhouse store, too, but it's more Barbie size. I'm looking forward to seeing your music video. I'm sure it's going to be fabulous.

  16. Quite a realistic dio and what a collection of instruments! Love your pianos but gotta say that piano bench is my favorite piece. It's just so cute.

My instrument as a kid was a recorder. I would blow into that thing and straight nonsense would come out. I remember sitting on a big log trying to get mice to come to me like the Pied Piper. It never happened and I would have freaked out if it had.

    1. Muff - Thanks. Shhhh. Don't mention that piano bench, too loudly. If Vanessa finds out that her husband made another piano bench before making hers, there's going to be hell to pay.

Where you looking for Ben? LOL!

  17. My nephew is just starting to learn the violin and I think his music school is loaning it to him to get him started and make sure he likes it before his family buy him one. I hope Nikaya enjoys it as well as the piano - they are great skills to have.

    1. Carrickters - My youngest stepson played the violin briefly, back in the day. I just met my 14 yr old step granddaughter for the first time. She just moved here, and I asked her about her musical interests. She wanted to learn piano. I told her I would loan her my personal keyboards to see if she likes it. Learning to play an instrument can be so rewarding.

  19. Love that first comment, "Is that my piano?" You did a beautiful job. Mary Had a Little Lamb is the only thing I retained from piano lessons. I didn't care for my piano teacher.

    1. Kenya - Thanks. Sad to say the post office damaged the piano in shipping. Probably the holiday delivery crew. It's not so bad that I can't fix it. My piano teacher was pretty tough, but very likeable.
