After completing the second order, I took a mini-break to create a jacket and skirt from this faux leather material. I realized after almost finishing the jacket, that the material was not of great quality. So that means I can't offer anything I created with it, for sale.
Dasia loves her new jacket and skirt. I will get pictures of the skirt later. I will probably make her some pants, too. I will have to look for some better material so I can make some saleable leather jackets.
Part of the custom order included a red Ohio State shirt. I wanted to try the transfer process April described on her blog Fashion Doll Stylist, but I have an inkjet printer, not a laser printer. So I used the old fashioned transfer paper technique. Now that I have transfer paper, and transfer medium, I will be offering more customized tshirts and bags.
Another custom request, a lilac button down. Finding the right color buttons for this shirt was impossible. I finally made the decision to paint (and seal) them. Custom orders always help me grow.
Today is an all day sewing day. Tomorrow I will be attending an alzeimer's fundraiser and a Brave's game. That leaves Sunday for doll play, blog reading, and grass cutting. See you soon!
You are one busy lady! I like the look of your faux leather jacket and the lavender shirt - clever idea for the buttons! As for the Ohio T-shirt - well, since I am a Michigan fan . . .! I like using the iron on transfers. When my daughters were small, I used them to embellish their gym shirts for school which was always a big hit. Good idea to use them for doll shirts!
ReplyDeletePhyllis - Lol, you Michigan fan. Years ago I made promotional t-shirts for myself with pictures of my porcelain dolls.
DeleteHello from Spain: you have great plans for your weekend. This leather jacket is fabulous. Dania is stylish. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Thanks. Dasia is very happy about the jacket.
DeleteBeautiful outfits Vanessa, I have to learn this transfer paper tecnique, do you know where I can find a good tutorial (I have an inkjet printer too...)
ReplyDeleteLove the leather jacket, she's so cool!
Kisses Billa
billa's dolls - Thanks. The transfer technique is very easy. There is transfer paper for light fabrics and dark fabrics. Make sure you follow that package instructions because not all companies have the same process. For some you have to do mirror images, and for others you don't. Youtube is always a great place for instructions. I'm sure there are hundreds of videos on this topic.
DeleteThanks Vanessa, I'm going to check at my haberdashery for the transfer paper then I'm going to try!
DeleteI really like your doll clothes they are really nice I really like this purple shirt with buttons I think it is really cute.Kisses
ReplyDeleteMy Doll Stuff - Thanks. That purple shirt would look really nice with the dark jeans.
DeleteLow quality material or not, the jacket looks great!
ReplyDeleteAnderson's AP - Thanks. It did make a nice jacket, but I can tell it would easily rip. Dasia doesn't mind, though.
DeleteWell, in your photos, that leather jacket looks mighty fine, Vanessa! Dasia's clothes are perfect (as usual)!!!
ReplyDeleteapril - Thanks. I'm so bummed. This material is so soft and supple, and I just love the color. Perfect for doll clothes. Oh well, Dasia will have lots of nice pieces from it.
DeleteYou are so good at making clothes. The outfits are nice. That leather jacket will be in hot demand. Next she'll need a winter coat and holiday party clothes.
ReplyDeleteJanainah - Thanks. I'm getting lots of practice over here. The custom orders always help push me to a new level.
DeleteNow you know lilac is Dena's color. Do you have enough of that fabric left over to make another of that shirt?
ReplyDeleteJewell - Yes, I have plenty of that fabric. Don't forget you have a coupon that's good through Dec.
DeleteThe leather jacket looks good from here, too ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou sound happy busy; good to hear that. I look forward to the JT smackdown ... er ... meeting when it appears.
D7ana - The jacket looks good up close, too. I just can tell this fabric wouldn't hold up well over the long haul. I am happy busy. Last night was 4 hours of line dancing. That's one of my new hobbies..
DeleteDasia's wardrobe is fantasic. Love the jacket on her!
ReplyDeleteAG Lanc - Thanks! Dasia loves her new jacket. I may have a hard time getting it off her. It's perfect weather for it, too.
DeleteI love the jacket. I have been trying to find some nice leather to make a few things for this year giveaway, I'm having no luck. I have seen some suede that looks good. You know you are over getting down! All the outfits showcased have been great.
ReplyDeleteBrinit - Thanks. That's why I'm so bummed. You know how hard it is to find pleather fabric that works for doll scale. Most are too thick, or too stiff. This one feels like butter and it's thin with a great lining. Oh well. I bought it with my Dasia in mind anyway.
DeleteShe looks great in everything! You cant tell from the photo that there is a quality problem. Looks stylish to me.
ReplyDeleteMuff - Thanks! The jacket looks nice up close, too. I can just tell this fabric is very fragile, and won't stand the test of time. I would have some very unhappy customers if I sold it.
DeleteThe jacket looks pretty good to me also. Can't tell that there's anything wrong with it. You're one busy lady these days! :-)
ReplyDeleteCindi - There's nothing wrong with the jacket I made, but the fabric is just too fragile and I would be fearful that the pieces I sold wouldn't last long.
DeleteVanessa, you are hurting me! Dasia is the new Top Model! She looks great in everything you put her in. The jacket is TDF. I have to have one of those. She would be a gorgeous biker babe. :-)
ReplyDeleteGergia Girl - My plan is working. I think I will make her a t-shirt with your doll club logo. LOL! I think she would make a great biker babe. I will be making her some pants from this same material. I can't wait to see how the two look together.
DeleteYes I also love it, love it
ReplyDeleteLadonna - Thank you, thank you.
DeleteI love the faux leather jacket and wish the material had been of better quality for you. I'm sure you would have had multiple orders for clothing pieces.
ReplyDeleteIf you have decent thrift stores in your area, you might be able to find inexpensive leather items such as a coat and use the leather from it to make clothing.
I am working with dark T-shirt transfer paper for a special project. It is amazing! I am not sure what April suggested, but this stuff is great. It feels like rubber and a laser printer is not required.

...or a purse or other soft leather/pleather clothing item from the thrift store to use for sewing doll garments.

DBG - Thanks. The thrift store is a good idea, too. April demonstrates the technique of transferring using a transfer medium. It's not hard, just a little messy, and the results are incredible. If you haven't checked out her blog, it's definitely worth taking a looking. She has shown other incredible techniques that are quite inspiring.
DeleteThese are fantastic, Vanessa! I love the mix and match!
ReplyDeleteLinda - Thanks! The customer loved her pieces. Dasia has already given me a list of t-shirts to make.
Deletewhat's not good quality about the jacket? that outfit with the jeans is everything on miss dasia!
ReplyDeleteTeva - Thanks! The jacket I make turned out just fine, but I noticed when I was working with the material that it was likely to rip very easily. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling anything made from it. Dasia is perfectly fine with it, and I will make her more items with it.
