That's right, Buttercup! She delivered four pups on Friday. Talk about surprised. I knew there was a possibility that she could be pregnant, but she really didn't get big. I don't know how she had four pups inside. So imagine this. I'm working on the computer, and Buttercup starts running around. I get up to see if she has to go to the bathroom. She goes outside, but comes right back in. She's still acting a little strange. I pick her up and put her in my lap. As we are sitting there, I can tell something is just not right. At this point I'm thinking she must be in labor. How do I know this? I had just watched a YouTube video two days prior about a dog giving birth. Thank goodness for YouTube!
Fifteen minutes later, the first pup (black and white) was born. I won't go into any more details about this ordeal. Just know that it was an ordeal and I was stressed waaaayy out. All is well now. Buttercup is being a great mommy. Believe it or not, I think all of the puppies are already spoken for. Of course that will remain to be seen after their 8 weeks with mommy. I just hope I don't fall in love with any of them.
What cute little things they are! That must have been quite a shock, Buttercup rolling out four pups. She looked some small in the other photots. Congrats to you and Buttercup!
ReplyDeleteVerona - Yes, quite shocked. I was hoping there were only two, but four isn't so bad.
DeleteOh cutie pies! Congratulations to both of You :) Who is the father? :)
ReplyDeleteRosemary - I don't know who the father is. Remember I got her off the stree. My cousin, who lived in the neighborhood where she was, said it was a small black dog she was running around with.
DeleteThey are absolutely adorable! I'll bet you won't believe my dog had 11 puppies and I never knew she was preggers. I had just taken her to the vet two days before and he said to just take her home as she was full of "GROWTHS!"
ReplyDeleteOh, and I was told she was spaded when I got her. :-/
Grandmommy - Get out! I guess I should feel blessed she only had 4. Wow! And the person lied about her being spade. I would have been a little miffed about that.
DeleteAwwwwww, cute puppies! Congrats to you and Buttercup.
ReplyDeleteRoxanne - Thanks. I've gotten more used to this since the first day. I was a basket case that first day.
DeleteOh my... they are soooooooooooooo cute!! And what a surprise! I still remember when my spagniel came with her first baby in his mouth to show us she was giving birth! One of my uncles kept telling us to leave her alone, but when we did she started to cry... She had seven puppies, and I saw the whole process... You never forget it. Never... Congratulations to you and Buttercup!
ReplyDeleteRossetti - So you know first hand the trauma I experienced. lol. After the first one, she didn't do what she was supposed to, so I had to do it all, including cutting the cord. She got the hang of it with the rest of them. I tried hand feeding the first one, but then just put him in with the rest and mommy did her thing.
DeleteI got a sneaking suspicion that after spending eight weeks with them one or more just might be staying with you, especially that wee black one. He's super cute!
ReplyDeleteMuff - I sure hope not! Two dogs is more than enough for me. It will be interesting to see what they look like when the get a little bigger.
DeleteHow adorable! If you don't have any homes lined up for them yet, we may consider taking one --especially the black and white one. Any idea what breed they might be? :-)
ReplyDeleteCindi - I am putting you on the list! I will know if I have any available in the next few weeks. My friend was wanting more than one, but she may not be able to take any of them when it's all said and done. The black and white one was the first one out. Buttercup is Jack Russell Terrier. I didn't see the father, so I don't know what he is. My cousin, who did see him, is not a dog person, so asking her won't help. We may get an idea when they get a little bigger.
DeleteHello from Spain: congratulations. The puppies are adorable. Your going to want to stay with a dog more .. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Buttercup is being a very good mom. This is my first time having a dog with puppies, so it's been an eye opening experience.
DeleteWow...great job Vanessa!
ReplyDeleteLoretta - Thanks, but Buttercup did most of the work. I only helped out with the first one. She and I make a great team.
DeleteOh. My. GOSH!!! The cute!!!! Keep us posted with progress pics!!! Puppies are the best!
ReplyDeleteHeather - I will post pictures as they grow. It will be interesting to see how they develop.
DeleteWow Vanessa!! You really are a Jack of all trades! Lol! Congratulations to you! The older they get, the cuter they get, so beware. ; )
ReplyDeleteGeorgia Girl - You get find out anything you need to know on YouTube. lol! They can get as cute as they want to, they are going to new homes.
DeleteOMG!!!! I guess nature takes over in cases like that - when your not a professional breeder. Whew! Who the baby daddy? LOL! Now I gotta look back and see who was in the yard with Buttercup and who was on the other side of the fence. They were getting busy while you were setting up shots. LOL! They are so cute all smooshed together. Please please please give us a weekly update ;-) And yes youtube has taught me a lot of things. Just last week I was losing my appetite while watching a youtube video on how to cut up a whole chicken break by break and slice by slice. I'm not buying anymore whole chickens and I need a sharper knife.
ReplyDeleteKenya - The best thing to do is leave the mom and puppies alone, and mommy does her thing. I wasn't even watching when she gave birth to the last 3. Their instincts just kick in and they do their thing. She's been a very good mommy ever since. When they cry, she goes running to their aid. It is so cute!
DeleteThe babies daddy is someone I don't know and have never seen. When I rescued her from the streets a few weeks ago, she was already pregnant. It takes about 60 days from conception to give birth.
So why do you need a sharper knife if you aren't going to buy whole chickens again?
True - no sharper knife needed. LOL! Wow and I didn't know the conception to birth was so short. So glad I don't live near you - it would be too hard to resist one of those puppies.
ReplyDeleteKenya - They are getting cuter by the day. Luckily I have a list of people wanting them, so I won't be tempted. It takes 3 weeks for the eyes to open. I am a sucker for eyes. Both with men and dogs. So I could be in trouble.
DeleteOhhhh, they are really nice!!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAna - They are now 4 days old. They are like real little kids. They eat and sleep all day. Mommy and babies are all doing well.
DeleteOMG....soooo cute and sooo tiny. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteDebbie - Buttercup said thanks! She's being a very good mommy. It's been a great experience for both of us.
DeleteAwwh! I wish we could see more of their faces!
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo - Those little faces are still developing. They don't look like much at the moment. I think when their eyes open in a couple of weeks, their faces will be cuter. That's probably when they will be trying to get into everything.
DeleteAwww so cute! Congratulations to both of you, I'm glad all of them are spoken for :)
ReplyDeleteV. - Thanks. The list of people wanting a puppy keeps growing. I hope they all want them in 8 wks time.
DeleteIt's so so so cute !
ReplyDeleteShasarignis - They are keeping me busy. Luckily right now they just eat and sleep. I know I will be a lot busier in a few weeks.
DeleteWow, that's one way to expand your family quickly. It's a good thing they seem to have homes to go to or I think you would be very tempted. How is Bruce coping with all these new puppies in his house?
ReplyDeleteCarrickters - You can say that again. I don't think I would be tempted, although the little black one is looking cuter and cuter every day. Two dogs is enough for me. Bruce is a real champ. He just stays out the way and let's them have the attention. I make sure he and I have alone time several times a week so he still feels special.
