The Williams sisters are two of my favorite people. Not only are they incredible tennis players, with about 20 grand slam wins between them, they are successful business women, off the court.
Venus is owner of V*Starr Interiors, a residential and commercial interior design company. She also has a clothing line called "EleVen" and a collection of women's clothes at Wilson's Leather. You can see her overall bio here, and her tennis bio here.
Serena designs fashions and jewelry, has written books, pursues an acting career and is part owner of the Miama Dolphins. You can see her overall bio here, and her tennis bio here.
The Williams sisters, were sold separately. I bought them new, from a collector, for $10 each. They were produced in 2001 by a company called Play Along. They can be usually be found on ebay.
This is Venus. I think it is a really good likeness of her.
This is Serena. It didn't look like her to me until I looked at some of her pictures when she was younger.
Let's take a look at their accessories. First up are their water bottles with their names in black writing on one side and...
...blue writing on the other side. I'm impressed they did both sides.
Next up is a can of tennis balls.
They each got a sun visor.
Of course, their tennis racquets.
And these really nice tennis bags.
Venus also came with her Wimbledon platter. If you follow these sisters, you know that since 2001 Serena has won Wimbledon five times since 2002. To date, Serena Williams has won more than $34 million in career prize money, the most of any female athlete in any sport in history.
I wanted to show their sneakers because I love fashion doll sneakers. They each came with a watch, a gold bracelet, and a gold necklace. I will more than likely add earrings to both of them.
The story of the Williams sisters is pretty incredible. Learning to play tennis at ages 4 and 3, from their father, who had never played tennis. He learned by reading books and then set out to teach his daughters. They learned to play in the inner city of Compton, CA. This just goes to show you what is possible when you put your mind to something and follow through. I am always inspired by them and glad they have come to visit Morristown.
Enjoy this mini bio of Serena Williams.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful dolls and spotlighting the accomplishments of these amazing sisters!
ReplyDeletelimbe dolls - You are very welcome!
DeleteThanks for the info on the sisters. Did you add the beads to their hair?
ReplyDeleteMale Doll World - You're welcome. The sisters came exactly as shown, beads and all.
DeleteHello from Spain: the sisters Willimans also are popular in my country. They are featured in the magazines of sports and entertainment magazines .. I had not seen them like these dolls. I like their supplements and sports bag. Nice pictures., Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - Thanks for stopping by and seeing the Williams sisters.
DeleteThis post is a nice tribute to these two phenomenal women and their portrait dolls. Congratulations on finding the dolls at such a great price.
ReplyDeleteI believe the dolls retailed for about $19.99 each. I purchased both new at the time of release 1) because I collect portrait/personality dolls and 2) because these women are trailblazers not only in the sport that has changed forever because of them (boring is an understatement for what tennis was before Venus and Serena set foot on the professional court) but in the business world, as you mentioned. I admire them for their accomplishments and for allowing their money to make more money.

DBG - Thanks! They are amazing women and I have to applaud both their parents for a job well done.
DeleteHow Great! I Love these girls and their story too! Nice post and geat pictures. I hope you work them into a story!
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo - Thanks. I already have a story ready for them. A story has been developing for months now and I didn't know what the story would be. Now I know.
DeleteLovely dolls! I don't really follow sports, but their some of my favorite atheletes (maybe it's just cause I like tennis).
ReplyDeleteI love having both dolls and the big world combined for a great story and of course I LOVE those Williams gals.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!
Interesting dolls. Both Serena and Venus are very famous, so of course I heard about them even if I'm not into sport. Can't wait to see them in a story!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting them! I am looking forward to seeing them in Morristown.
ReplyDeleteVerona, Grandmommy, jewel snake, and Georgia Girl - Thanks for your comments. I'm sure the residents of Morristown will be happy to see them, too.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those dolls, never got around to getting the other. For the longest time, I thought they were twins!
ReplyDeletepattidolls - They are really close in age, so I can see you thinking they were twins. The live together in Florida, so they are really close.
DeleteNIce post. I wouldn't have guessed who they were. But when I saw they were produced in 2001, then they did do a great job with them. The molding or whatever you call it was probably even way before that. I'm not a tennis fan but I will be fixated to the television when I watch them play.
ReplyDeleteKenya - I think the Venus doll still favors her even today. I used to be a tennis fanatic when I was younger. I used to play every day and I was really good. It never occurred to me that it could be a career.
DeleteVery nice! They are the total package with all the accessories. I quite like their rackets. I used to enjoy the game in high school and junior college so now that I'm finding 1:6 rackets it has me feeling nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your find! Both dolls resemble the sister the doll is meant to represent. How's that for neat?!
ReplyDeletePlay Along also produced a Sisquo doll, too. I think he came out around the Williams sisters' time. Alas, I did not get either them or him. Wish I had now ;-D
Thanks for sharing!
D7ana - "Thong, tha thong, thong, thong." Sorry. Any time I hear the name Sisquo, that is what happens. I need to look him up. Thanks.
DeleteWhoa, the Williams sisters in dolls ! I am very impressed.
ReplyDeleteShasarignis - I had known about them, but had sort of forgotten they existed. I'm glad to have them on board.
DeleteI got my Venus Williams doll in 2000 and have cherished it for the past 15 years. Mine has the red top and black dress.
ReplyDeleteThe details on these dolls are actually very strong especially in the face and hair. The clothing and jewelry are also very detail-oriented.
And they have become rather rare and collectible. I am so proud to own one! Thank you for your wonderful story about these dolls.
