It's early morning. Cathy and her son, Deondre have stopped in to grab breakfast before she drops him off at school and heads to work. (Initially, I had these two as brother and sister, but decided he made a better son. He's 16)
"Donuts or bagels?" (Cathy)
"Donuts." (Deondre)
"Can I get a bagel, a jelly donut and a chocolate donut?" (Cathy)
"Sure. Anything to drink?" (Antoinette)
"Oh yes. Two large hot teas, please." (Cathy)
"Ma? Ma? Can you throw in one of those brownies?" (Deondre)
"Brownies are not breakfast food." (Cathy)
"I'll save it for lunch." (Deondre)
"Boy, no." (Cathy)
While Antoinette gets the order together, Cathy checks out the sweets in the display case. Cathy is wearing a shawl collar mohair sweater that I recently crocheted.
"Wow, such cute Valentine's Day treats. I may stop by later and get something." (Cathy)
"If you like, you can put in an order now, and I can have it packed and ready whenever you like." (Antoinette)
"Let me think about it, while I'm eating my breakfast." (Cathy)
"Okay. Well. that will be $4.59." (Antoinette)
Deondre's attention has turned to the lady in the corner. She's the only other customer in the bakery at the moment. She doesn't feel his stares.
Something outside the window has caught her eye as she sits with her pastry and hot tea. She has an appointment at the pediatrician's office in about an hour. This gives her plenty of time to enjoy her breakfast. She is wearing one of my most recent crocheted sweaters. She paired it with the hat I made for Dasia a while back.
Well seems like the bakery is off to a great start. I'm looking forward to seeing who else shows up today.
Antoinette has been baking her little fingers off. Here are some of the breads she has prepared for today's soft opening.
Dinner rolls
Pumpernickel bread
Baguettes
Happy Valentine's Day!
Hi Vanessa!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you too! Love the bakery and your crocheted clothes! Great job on all of it. Perhaps you should put some of your crocheted creations in your Etsy shop. :-)
Cindi - Thanks. As for the clothes, I have no plans to sell any because my dolls really like the crocheted pieces and before I would have to buy them. Now I can just make them and everyone is happy.
DeleteI love it... Her bakery looks awesome. Happy Valentines Day!!!
ReplyDeleteRebekah - Thanks! She's looking forward to growing the business.
DeleteWow, your set up and bakery look fantastic! Cute story and I love the the sweater you made for Cathy. :)
ReplyDeleteFarrah - Thanks!
DeleteI also hope we get back to Danielle who was waiting for her children to see the doctor.
ReplyDeleteTammy - Yes, I plan to get back to Danielle. She is still in the doctor's office.
DeleteLooks like the bakery is going to be very popular. The display case with all the yummy pastries is great! Happy Valentine's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater you made is the perfect color and very cute!
Sam - Thanks. I think it will be one of the hot spots in town.
DeleteThe bakery looks very nice. I like the little alcove for the donuts. Is that a warming oven behind the counter?
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that Cathy's reasoning for denying Deondre a brownie made no sense. So he can eat a sugar-filled donut for breakfast, but brownie is not breakfast food? It reminds me of how my family says I'm weird for wanting a cheeseburger for breakfast, but steak and eggs for breakfast is okay.
I like those sweaters.
Jaye - Thanks. Often times we are conditioned to think a certain way. Donuts are for breakfast and brownies are for dessert. I eat what I want no matter what time of day it is, and my neighbor thinks I'm crazy. She will only eat what is considered breakfast food for breakfast. I figure if I eat ice cream at breakfast time, I have all day to work that off. If I eat it at dinner, I'm likely to sleep on it. I'm also more likely to feel like cooking dinner when I first wake up. By the end of the day, forget about it.
DeleteSo Adorable!!
ReplyDeleteIt's impressive your attention and care by the details. How your photography grew up,and it's really even better now.The cakes' showcase is absolutely lovely! What a great photo!!Very delicate and accurate!Congrats,Congrats, Congrats!! I Love It!!
Jorge - Thanks! I'm happy to finally have the bakery up and running. I've been wanting to do one for a couple years now.
DeleteGreat looking shop and the treats look delicious!
ReplyDeletePeople always give me the side eye when I ask to have my dessert in a restaurant before the meal is served. I don't want to fill up on a meal that I can always take home versus some nice dessert that tastes the best when it's fresh.
Muff - Thanks. It will be nice to have a place to try out some new baked goods. I like your idea of eating dessert first.
DeleteOh wow, Vanessa.....the bakery is the bomb!!! Love, love, love all of the little details...from the checkerboard floor and Antoinette's apron to the treats beneath the glass counter! Also love that crocheted sweater you made as well!
ReplyDeleteapril - Thanks! I'm super excited someone finally gets to wear one of the 'treats' apron I sold a couple of years ago.
DeleteEverything looks great, Vanessa! I'm looking forward to the pediatrician's office photo story. Did you decide to cast the baby in the bakery as a boy?
ReplyDeleteJewell - Thanks! I'm anxious to get back to the doctor story, too. I've had to spend some time getting used to a new treatment and my energy level has been challenged to say the least. I'm back on the upswing. Yes, the baby is a little boy.
DeleteLove those sweaters!
ReplyDeleteChampagne Star - Thanks! Learning to do the shawl collar sweater was really fun.
