Cynthia? No Chante.

A couple days ago I named my Photography Lammily, Cynthia, and I gave her a boyfriend, Kenya's World, Dwayne.  He was a great height and his large head balances out her large head.  They are both science students at the local university, but he is one year ahead of her.  Giving her a boyfriend will keep me interested in growing her wardrobe.  At the moment I am sewing all kinds of different things for her to help me figure out what works for her body type.  I don't have any home runs yet, but I am finding some colors that work well on her.  Today I decided she will be Harold's niece, that way Dasia will want to help me build her wardrobe, instead of giving me horrible looks every time I make her something.

Here she is in a yellow shift dress.

I like this soft yellow on her.

When I saw this picture, I started singing the Chante Moore tune, "Chante's Got A Man At Home".  Then I remembered that Chante used to wear her hair pulled to the side just like this.  THEN, I remembered that the man at home she was singing about was Khadeem Hardison who played Dwayne Wayne on the hit series "A Different World".  Sooooo, I decided to change her name to Chante (shan - tay).  In this picture she is wearing a sundress in a golden yellow.   After I make her some cute sandals I will show a better picture of dress.

This top is a throw away.  The material was too stiff to make the top I wanted to make.  I wasn't trying to make a crop top, at all, but after seeing this on, I think she may be able to pull off the right crop top.

Here is a picture of the burgundy dress shorter than my original picture.  I think I like it better short.  So far I think the dropped waist works best on her.

Today I made her a shirt I am calling the X-ray shirt.  She is house sitting for her uncle Harold and aunt Dasia, who are away on vacation for a week.  She and Dwayne stopped by the house before heading to classes for the day.

  1. She looks good in warm colors. I prefer the first dress without the belt. That last dress is more flattering in the shorter length as it makes her legs look longer. And the placement of the drop waist conceals her overly long torso to balance her proportions. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

    1. Jewell - Thanks for the feedback. I never had these problems with Dasia. Dressing her curves was always fun. I feel like one of the Project Runway contestants that didn't like sewing for real people. I made a dress last night and I think it's my second favorite style for her.

  2. LOVE the last outfit. That is so me. Pretty much all I wear is black and gray and comfy clothes. I saw a Lammily repaint that was just fabulous and the change in eyes made her look so cool. If you still aren't feeling connected to her, maybe repainting her eyes would help.

    1. Muff - Thanks. I love the xray printed shirt. I wouldn't have figured you for a black and gray type person. I'm pretty connected to her. I'm fine with her eyes, too. It's her body. It's just a challenge to find clothes that flatter her body type. But I did a new dress last night and I think it works very well for her long torso.

  3. Love the yellow top and the xray top. The red dress really works for her also. Good thing you sent Dasia off on vacation! LOL :-)

    1. Cindi - Thanks. I can't wait for Dasia to return. She was so much more fun to sew for. Lammily is a challenge, but I'm making strides.

    1. AG Lanc - Thanks. Yes she was boasting, but not in a malicious way. They were happy for her.

  5. BTW I always liked that song although it seemed like she was boasting her relationship in front of her friends. The extended version was good too.

  6. Chante looks great in pale yellow! I agree with Jewel that the shift dress looks better without the belt.

New length on the red dress is also a win. Crop-top-with-yoga-pants could definitely work on her.

    1. Smaller Places - I think it's better without the belt too. I tried it with the belt first to try to give her a waist. I have a new style that I think makes her look normal.

  7. Cool wardrobe. Love the yellow sundress, burgundy dress and x-ray top. And what a great way to keep the peace.

    1. adrian - Hi! Thanks. Yes, Dasia should be thrilled that I am sewing for her husband's niece. Right? Lol. Hope you are doing well.

  8. I have to agree that the yellow dress is better without the belt. The drop waist on the red dress is good, but (this is just my worthless $0.02) I think the bottom could flare out less. I think because she already has the bulk herself, the more fitted clothes are more flattering. The crop top looks good. I could also see it being flattering with a longer piece of sheer material at the bottom, in place of the lace. I can't wait to see the shoes you make. I want to learn to make a decent pair. But I have to stay within my skill range. :-)

    1. Janainah - I'm looking for all the 2 cents I can get when it comes to dressing this doll. I actually agree with you about the burgundy dress. That was my first sample, and I planned to reduce the bulk on the real garment. Not only that, when I shortened it for the picture, I didn't cut the fabric off, it's just pinned underneath, which makes it even bulkier. The lace on the crop top was just to hide the boobs, so I could show the pants. At the time I didn't have another top. I realized when I was making the top (which ended up being the crop top) that I needed thinner fabric to pull off my original idea, which is probably similar to what you are envisioning.

    1. Champagne Star - Thanks! I like that she has a boyfriend. I can make more interesting stories with her instead of just sewing clothes for her.

  10. She looks good in yellow and Dwayne is a perfect choice too. He's here in Dotsville, just chilling. She can get away with either dress styles because the help show her shape. The name Chante work for her too.

    1. Brini - Thanks. I was surprised how nice the yellow looked on her. Not everyone can wear yellow. Have we seen your Dwayne in a story yet?

  11. I really like the fit of the yellow sheath on her better than the drop waist dress. I can't tell how she looks in the second yellow dress since she is seated, but I can tell that yellow is a good color for Chante.

    1. DBG - I'm planning to try some brighter colors on her. The dropped waist is probably not the best for her long torso, but I do like the short version. I'm going to try a couple of tunics soon to see how they work.

  12. I like the two yellow dresses, that color really suits her. I like this Lammily better than first one, but I still don't have one.

    Cheers!

    1. monstercrafts - Thanks. Yellow does suit her. I like this one a lot better, too. I have both. I think if I give the other one a cute haircut I would like her better.

  14. I certainly admire the way you're making peace between Dasia and Chante. Dasia's been the queen bee and she sees Chante infringing on her territory as you divert your attention to making clothes for the new girl on the block. My favorite dress for Cynthia continues to be the red dress because 1) the dropped waist steers the eye away from her mid-section and for me, makes her shape more interesting and 2) though she's curvy around the hips and thighs, I feel the flared skirt makes everything appear less "bulky," more graceful. Yellow looks good on her but I personally don't feel this particular dress is doing much for her unless you plan to do a matching coat or jacket or maybe if cut in a print. Anyway, that's simply my 2 cents which you are not obliged to spend.

    1. april - Thanks for your input. I agree that a little flare helps to give her a shape. No plans to make a jacket for that sheath dress. It has received some interest, so I will list it and see what happens. I love hearing all the different opinions. Further solidifies how different fashion tastes can be. I like the Aline and flared fashions for her better than the straight ones, but I think it will be key to offer both.

  16. I love the yellow sheath and the x-ray top/black pants best. Burgundy is also a good color on her, but I prefer the sheath style dress for her figure. If I should ever return to making doll clothes, I'll have to remember to return here for insights on making fashions for my rounder dolls.

I wonder if she and Dasia could wear the same clothes? The styles would be different because Dasia is older, but I am curious about the differences between these bodies.

Aside: I like how Dwayne's eyes look as if he is in lurve ;-)

  17. D7ana - I love hearing the differing opinions about Lammily fashions. She is a tough one to style. Dasia is much larger than Lammily. Lammily is closer in size to the curvy Barbie.
