More Fashions and my 1st DOTY

Lena got a new client.  Roberta, Danielle's mom, wanted a couple dresses to wear to her social functions.  She emailed Lena her measurements and this is the first dress Lena created for her.  Roberta is more than thrilled and has requested more outfits.

She needs a set of double strand pearls.  In the meantime, she just threw on a silver brooch and silver bracelet.

She's acually sitting in this picture.

I was able to get a second Barbie fashion pack for $7.97.  There are $11.97 packs, but they aren't nearly as cute as these.

The dress has an asymmetrical cut.

I like both these pieces, but not necessarily together as an outfit.  Both are great mix and match pieces.

I bought my first doll of the year.  It's a dark skinned Chelsea doll, who is part of the 2015 line.  I'm pretty sure this is the first dark skinned Chelsea in the individual packs.  I didn't check her name.  I wonder if they are calling her Tamika?

    1. Duke of Swann - It's nice to see Mattel do something a little different with the asymmetrical dress.

  3. Yay for clients for Lena!

Your experiences with Walmart pricing on the fashion packs motivated me to take a much closer to look when I was there on Monday. The tag on the peg definitely said $11.97 for this very outfit! I didn't find out how it rang up because I already bought it -- the dress is on one of my Chic Boutique clones, who's so slim that it's not tight on her.

    1. Smaller Places - I imagine the Walmart people stocking the shelves are creating the $8 and the $12 pack the same. Luckily it rings up correctly at the register. The packs themselves are similar in size, with different clothes.

  4. Lena's very talented! Pretty soon she'll have more clients than she can handle. She may need to hire an assistant. :-)

    1. Cindi - Lena thanks you. These local clients need to take advantage of her not having her line on the market yet. Once that happens, they will have to pay top dollar to get some of her pieces.

  5. I love that style dress on an older woman. My Camille needs a dress like that. Please order her one and ship it to St, Malcolm.
I also want that new Chelsea.

    1. Ms. Leo - It's a style that's comfortable and classic. It will be fun coming up with outfits for her. I will tell Lena about Camille. Lol.

    2. I saw this Chelsea in person. Now why did they paint on the top and stockings. I do believe you are right, I think she is the first dark skin Chelsea.

    3. Ms. Leo - This whole line of Chelseas has some interesting outfits. I don't mind the painted outfit. Clothes fit right over top and the pink legs always make great stockings. I just hate that there isn't any leg and arm, side-to-side movement.

    1. KMQ - I'm starting to love sewing for them. Once I get all the little nuances back for sewing for dolls this size, I will love it even more. Good luck finding the new AA Chelsea.

  7. I love, love, love Roberta's new dress. Very appropriate for the more mature woman (notice I did not say "older" ;) ). It has been so cold here, that I haven't ventured down into the basement which is where my sewing room and my dolls are! I guess I should just put a sweater on and tough it out. I like that new Chelsea friend, but wish that the legs were not pink and that the bodice was not painted on. It is too bad that they are not using the old S.I.S. kids bodies for these dolls. I liked that they had much more range of motion in the arms and legs.

    1. Phyllis - Thanks! Those basements do be rather cold. I just bought a radiant heater for mine. It doesn't get it toasty, but it takes the chill away and allows me to stay down there for as long as I need to. I have an extra dark skinned SIS doll and I will be swapping bodies. I thought about selling it many times, but knew it was a great body. Much better than the Chelsea bodies.

  8. Lena did a very good job! Do you think she'll consider selling to other people in your etsy shop?

    1. Leandra - Thanks. I think Lena's plan is to sell clothes for the dolls that are hard to dress. The Grandmas, the Prettie Girls, the SIS kids, etc. If she continues to sew and sharpen her skills, she will definitely be doing that.

  10. Roberta looks nice in her new age-appropriate dress.

The new little one is cute. Like Phyllis, I never liked dolls with painted-on tights. No versatility there and I would not be willing to sacrifice one of my SIS little ones to correct Mattel's cost cutting.

    1. DBG - Thanks. I was thinking she needs a hat. Maybe not with this dress, but I picture her in a hat, going to church. Agreed, the painted on tights is a problem. I was happy they made her a ballerina versus an animal like they did a couple other Chelseas in this new line up. I ended up with several extra SIS dolls that I have no need for. I gave away a SIS doll and kid set at Christmas. I had picked up these sets for about $5 a couple years ago. So I have duplicates.

  14. Robert dress is so cute! I worked on some pants and capris for Rita and Ann. I have some dresses that need to sewn up too. I think blue is the color for her.

  15. In a nice coincidence, I just happened to purchase that same friend of Chelsea this week! Like another poster, I don't like that the outfit is painted on. And what is with the hole in her back? This is my first -- and may be my last -- Chelsea friend purchase.

On a happier note, Lena's dress is quite pretty. :-)

    1. Troy - I wouldn't mind the painted on outfit if the leg and arm movement were better. I just put clothes on top and I use the painted legs as colored tights. But the lack of movement will cause me to switch her body. I didn't even notice the hole until you said something. Very interesting. I'm glad you like the dress.
