First Dolls of the Year

I have to admit I got overly excited when I realized it was a new year and I could freely buy new dolls.  I first ran to Amazon.com looking for the Made to Move Barbies.  The Asian version had gone up on price, so I bought the brunette one.  After seeing a FB post, I was made aware that the AA Made to Move Barbie was showing up in Target stores.  I went to two different Targets in my area.  Man, I have never seen such empty shelves.  It was almost as though they had announced a 'going out of business' sale.  At the first Target they had one each of the Asian and the blonde MTM Barbies.  I bought them both.  I then headed to another Target.  There they only had one, the Asian one.  I bought her, too.  As I was looking down other empty aisles, hoping someone had misplaced a MTM Barbie, I ran across the most adorable 18" doll from the Divah Collection.  The line is called Positively Perfect, and they have a wide assortment of dolls of color, including AA, Hispanic and Latina dolls.

This is Zair, and I fell in love with her the moment I saw her.  There were only three Positively Perfect dolls on the shelf.  This one and two Hispanic dolls.

Here she is out the box.  Living A Doll's Life did a complete review of her, undressing her, and taking down her hair.  You can see that here.  I recently bought some 18" doll clothes from a local doll artist.  Zair can't wait to try them on.  I'm going to let her keep her given name.  She looks like a Zair.

Here are my three MTM Barbies.  I will be on the search for the AA one tomorrow.  Phyllis did a great review of these dolls.  You can see her complete review here.

Finally, I added this little red haired, freckle face mini Moxie girl.

You may be asking if there will be a limit on dolls this year.  The answer is yes, but it will only pertain to female fashion dolls that will be added to the collection.  Body donors, kids, male action figures, and dolls purchased solely for accessories will not count.  The number this year will be 15.  Two of the dolls in this post will count, so I'm down to 13.

  1. Looks like you are off to a good start for 2016! I am going to have to also put a limitation on my doll buying for 2016. I don't know if you tried this, but if you go to Target.com and find the AA Made to Move doll, you can check availability by putting in your zip code and it will show you where they have them in stock. That is how I was able to find mine. I bought 4 of them so I would have some as body donors.

    1. Phyllis - Thanks. I will try that. Tomorrow I will be about an hour away from home and I plan to check the Target there, too.

    2. Phyllyis - That didn't work at all. No matter what zipcode or city I put in there, it said 'not sold in this store'. So, I will just check the actual stores.

    3. This is weird, but there are 2 pictures of the AA doll on the Target website. If you click on the one with her arms out, it shows no stock anywhere. If you click on the one with her hands on her hips, it shows several stores in stock. I put in Lilburn, GA and several stores show it in stock. You may want to call ahead to see for sure.

    4. Phyllis - I was able to get them today from the same stores I went to two days ago. I was ahead of them putting her on the shelves.

  2. Zair is adorable. We need to see a fashion show, please. I have to agree about the Target shelves. I've been to two of them and the look like there was going to be a storm and you needed a doll in your supplies for survival.

I keep seeing the two MTMs you found, but I have yet to see the AA one. The search is on.

I also finally picked up that red headed Moxie girl two months ago and went on a hard search for her mother. I finally found her a few weeks ago. Now to figure out who they are (along with quite a few other dolls waiting for names and lives).

    1. Janainah - Your comment about the storm had me cracking up. I finally found the AA one today. Two of the Targets I went to two days ago finally restocked their empty shelves. They both had her. You may want to recheck the same ones. When I went on line today, they finally showed 'in stock' at several of the stores. My other little Moxie girl doesn't have a home yet. I really need to get back to doing stories regularly. Too many dolls are sitting around idle. Good luck on your search.

    2. Janainah - I forgot to say, Zair will be all too happy to show off some of her new fashions.

  3. Only a few days into the year and you've already brought home some great-looking dolls!

I had the same experience of empty shelves when I was walking through Target the other day - it actually reminded me of the stocking problems that Target had during their short-lived time in Canada (although I'm sure this was just because of the post-Christmas sales).

    1. jSarie - I think it's strange that their shelves were that empty, even with the Christmas rush. Walmart shelves were still stocked. I don't know what that was all about. At one Target I waited 20 or so minutes while they stocked the Barbie shelves. They put the other MTM Barbies on the shelf, but I never saw the AA one.

  4. I hope you are able to find the AA MTM. I had a hard time getting mine. Target's website is not accurate. After visiting two store locations and calling several others I found her and reserved two.

    1. Doll Thang - I'm happy to say I found the AA one today. I had to backtrack to one of the stores I visited two days ago. I bought the 3 they had on the shelf.

  6. I see you are off to a great start. I must say Zair is cute too! I'm trying to control my increasing interest with the 18in dolls! I know they would look so cute around the house, especially during the holiday but gosh, I just might have to get her.

    1. Brini - I just needed on good 18" doll. I have so many 18" doll patterns that are not being used. Now I will be able to make Zair a cute little wardrobe. This company has a lot of cute AA 18" dolls. I kind of hope I don't see any more in the stores. I might not be able to resist. They have one with two plaited pigtails. Oh my.

  8. Hi Vanessa!
Happy New Year! Looks like things are starting off right for you. I got the MTM Asian lady for Christmas, but I just ordered 2 more for body donors! LOL :-)

  9. I have seen the Asian MTM in stores but not the AA one yet either. I would like one of each just so I can have each skin tone.
