The Sofa Has Arrived

Today I nearly finished the sectional I made for the new house.  All that is left to do is add the legs.

Danielle is testing out the new sofa.  The delivery came a couple weeks earlier than expected.

"Come on, honey.  Sit down and try it out."  (Danielle)

"I can't wait to go shopping for some cute throw pillows.  Isn't it comfy?"  (Danielle)
"Yes.  I thought it came with an ottoman?"  (Rod)
"The ottoman was backordered.  It should be here in a couple of weeks."  (Danielle)
"Maybe we should put the old ottoman in here until it gets here."  (Rod)
"Good idea."  (Danielle)
"I'll go grab it from the garage."  (Rod)

While waiting for Rod to return, the boys make an appearance.
"Hey munchkins."  (Danielle)

"Hey mommy.  Where did this come from?"  (Julian)
"Oooh."  (Jacob, who goes running towards the sofa)

"Hold up, cowboy.  No shoes on the new sofa.  Come here."  (Danielle)

"What are you doing, woman?"  (Rod)

"What?"  (Danielle)
"Didn't the doctor say no heavy lifting?"  (Rod)
"Surely this doesn't count as heavy lifting."  (Danielle)

"Honey, you can't freak out every time I do something normal.  I'm pregnant.  Not disabled."  (Danielle)
"Sorry.  I just don't want anything to happen to the baby."  (Rod)
"I understand, but you have to relax.  We have five more months of pregnancy ahead.  You are gong to stress yourself out and drive me crazy."  (Danielle)

"Mommy, can I sit on the sofa, now?"  (Julian)

"Yes, but take your shoes off first"  (Danielle)
"Come here.  I'll help you."  (Rod)

Danielle turns her attention back to the room.
"I wish we had painted this room before the sofa arrived."  (Danielle)
"That was the plan, but who knew it would come early.  I'll tackle it over the next couple of weeks."  (Rod)
"Let's make sure we move the sofa to the next room when you do."  (Danielle)

"It's probably better with the sofa here.   Now I can be sure I'm picking a complimentary wall color."  (Danielle)

"Mommy, where do babies come from?"  (Julian)
Danielle is a little taken aback with his question.  It seems so out the blue.  Knowing her son, he's probably had this on his mind ever since he heard a new baby was coming.

She looks at Rod, who shrugs his shoulders.
"Well Julian.  That is a good question.  So good that mommy needs a little time to give you a good answer."  (Danielle)
"You don't know?!"  (Julian)
"I just want to explain it in the right way, so you understand.  How about we talk about it tomorrow?  It's getting late and I need to get you guys ready for bed."  (Danielle)
"Okay.  Tomorrow."  (Julian)

Later after the kids are in the bed...
Rod and Danielle relax on the new sofa and have a little baby talk.

"Well you dodged a bullet tonight.  What are you going to tell Julian tomorrow?"  (Rod)
"I'll think of an age appropriate answer that won't include birds and bees."  (Danielle)
"Don't like the birds and bees story, huh?"  (Rod)
"Not really."  (Danielle)

"So when do we get to find out what we're having?"  (Rod)
"You want to know beforehand?  I'm surprised.  I thought you would want to wait until the end."  (Danielle)
"You want to wait?  I thought you would want to know so you could have the nursery all perfect before he or she gets here."  (Rod)
"Maybe we could have one of those parties where they tell us at the party what we are having."  (Danielle)

"Did you hear that, little one?  Your mom wants to announce you at a party"  (Rod)
"I think it would be fun."  (Danielle)
"Do we have time for a party with all the moving and decorating?"  (Rod)
"Leave it to me.  You know I am the queen of planning events."  (Danielle)
"That's right!  Had it not been for the Daddy/Daughter dance, our relationship may have never gotten off the ground."  (Rod)

Blog reader Presto suggested I turn the dresser into a Craftsman tool set.   I came up with an idea on how to make the dresser look more like something you would find in an automotive shop.  I plan to add some type of handles to complete the look.

  1. Excuse me.....can you ask the shop owner if the sectional comes in rust or chocolate. Oh and is there going to be a Black Friday sale? Really though, you did a great job on the sectional. BTW, Danielle has really popped out! I love everything Danielle did in the boy's room..

    1. Brenova - Lol! The shop owner said both colors are probably available. She also said that new sofas aren't likely to happen until after the holidays because of her schedule. There is usually a first time order discount for blog reader of 10%. Not a Black Friday sale, but every bit counts.

Danielle really hasn't popped out that much. I gave her a small baby bump. That dress style made it look bigger than it is.

    1. Presto - Thanks. In all the years of making furniture, this is the first piece I intentionally made for my dolls. They were always getting the goof ups. I printed that diamondplate pattern off the internet. Thanks for the idea.

    2. Ms. Vanessa. I'm in the process of buying stuff for my barbie house so I can start my blog. How much would you charge for a chocolate sectional. With ottoman. Also how do I order stuff from your esty store. Thank you. You had a couple of dolls I wanted to purchase

    3. Angelia - Welcome to my blog. I'm excited to hear about your upcoming blog. My etsy store is part of the Etsy on-line store and you can purchase with Paypal or credit card. If you are interested in any of the dolls I've posted on this blog, those are purchased directly from me. You would just have to send me an email and I would send you an invoice via Paypal that you could pay with Paypal or a credit card. As for the price of the sectional, send me an email. I have a price for the sectional, but I've never sold it with an ottoman, so I need to work that part out. By time you email me, I will have an answer. Email is vanessamorrison68 at gmail dot com. I wrote it that way to deter spammers, but type it in like a regular email.

  8. The sofa looks great!! I LOVE how the boys room is turning out. The car theme is perfect! It is very nice to see my favorite Morristown couple. :-). Speaking of which, it use to be Nikki and Darius. Where are they? I miss them.

    1. Georgia Girl - Thanks! Funny you should mention Darius. He is sitting here next to my computer. Halle is on the table nearby. They haven't caught eyes yet. Nikki is downstairs waiting to go to the hair salon. She is in desperate need of a shampoo.

  9. The sectional is awesome. Danielle and Rod looked very comfortable in it after the boys went to bed. Love the boys dresser! For the pulls, little wrenches would be cool or maybe little car tires. I am sure you will find something really great to use!

    1. Phyllis - Thanks. They are so happy to be in a new home. Can't you tell? I like the idea of car parts for door pulls. However, I'm just planning to keep it along the tool chest theme and do silver bars across the top of each drawer.

  10. I'm so jealous. I want to make sofas that look this good. The boy's room is going to be awesome sauce!

Do we get to see how Danielle explains to Julian about making babies? LOL!

    1. Janainah - Thanks. Practice makes better! This is the first time I've made this style sectional. The others I've made had the chaise lounge part. Want to see something funny? Check out the video about the birds and the bees posted by Jewell below. Hilarious!

  11. Everything looks fantastic, Vanessa! Speaking of the birds and the bees, this video is worth a look (and a laugh) if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3MyLt6l5n0

    1. Jewell - That was hilarious! Danielle said thanks. She got a few ideas of what to say and what not to say. I don't think she's going to come with a white board. Maybe she will draw on their chalkboard in the playroom. Probably not a good idea. They may never want to play there again. I think she should just hire Nick from the video to explain. He seems to have done the best job at it. That little board wasn't freaked out at all and knew the whole story. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Jewell - Another thing Danielle noticed is the number of dads sitting with the moms. Rod is not getting out of this one. She is enlisting his help. Lol.

    3. LOL at drawing on the chalkboard in the playroom. You're right, they would never be able to do art work on that board again! Nick gave his little brother the 411 for sure. My favorite explanations had to be the special dance under the blanket and describing the lady parts as a "pocket" LOL

  12. I guess kids don't get the "babies come from the stork" tale anymore. Great looking sofa. Looks sturdy and kid proof.

    1. I remember when my daughter at age 3 told ME, where babies come from. I had just picked her up from pre-school and we were driving home. She said, "Mom, I know where babies come from." I replied, oh you do, do you?" She said, "Yup. Some come from Mommy's tummies and some come from China." (You may remember I adopted her from China!). She them paused and said. My babies are not coming from my tummy, they are coming from China!" Out of the mouths of babes!

    2. Muff - Thanks. I totally forgot about the stork. Takes longer to explain what a stork is, if you ask me. Danielle is the kind of mommy that will try to be as honest as possible. Please check out the video Jewell posted above. Hilarious seeing parents explain it to the kids.

  13. I do love that sectional...hmm I can see it in a denim for my Happy Family...hint, hint. Yes as I am sitting here typing Madison is peeking over my shoulder.

    1. Brini - Thanks. That would look nice in denim. Isn't Madison the one with all those kids? I can see why she feels she needs a sectional. Goodness. Danielle is now going to be a lady with all those kids. Lol.

  14. Vanessa I love the new sofa. I've never seen a modular sofa for a dollhouse. Can't wait to see the throw pillows you'll make for it. Question for you: will we be seeing Danielle is maternity wear?

    1. april - Thanks. I'm surprised you haven't seen one before. There are several other doll people that make 1/6 scale sectionals. Maternity wear is something I would love to make. I'm hoping Danielle will inspire me to get a line going.
