Shoes, a New Bike, and a Story

I desperately needed to redo my doll shoe collection.  They used to be sorted by color until I dropped the container a few months ago.  I never got around to resorting them.  The shoe collection has really outgrown this container, so this weekend I was looking for another system.  I found what I needed at Aldi's food store.  Aldi's has a section of household goods and I found the perfect containers.

BEFORE

AFTER
Using interlocking containers.

There is one strictly for sneakers and one for boots.

I bought this bike from the thrift store a couple months ago.  I totally forgot about it, and ran across it in the trunk of my car today.  It was $2.50.

And yesterday I found the perfect BMX bike for Julian at the Dollar Store.

Here is the package.   If you look closely, there is the cutest little screwdriver in the package.

I wonder if Julian will be working on his bike.

Rod is outside with the kids.  Danielle is off to the airport picking up her mother.  Julian is trying to show off his biking skills to Ciana, who is visiting from next door.

"See, no hands!"  (Julian)

Ciana sits in awe.

**CRASH**
"Ut oh!"  (Jacob)
"You okay, Julian?"  (Ciana)

"Are you okay?"  (Rod)
"Yea, I'm okay."  (Julian)
"Where's your helmet?"  (Rod)

"I can't find it."  (Julian)
"Well maybe you should stop being Mr. Daredevil.  Remind me to buy you a new helmet."  (Rod)
"Okay."  (Julian)

Julian gets up and picks up is bike.
"You want my helmet?"  (Ciana)
"Your helmet is too small and it's pink!"  (Julian)
"What's wrong with pink?"  (Ciana)
"Pink is for girls."  (Julian)

Back on his bike, Julian starts hatching a new plan.
"Dad, can you take us to the park?  There's not enough room to ride here."  (Julian)
"Leaving the area means you would need a helmet.  Besides, your mom will be here soon, and she has a surprise for you guys."  (Rod)
"A surprise?!  What is it?"  (Julian)
"You will have to wait and see."  (Rod)

The last thing I wanted to share with you are my new trees.  I picked these up from Ikea.  Don't they look real?  They aren't.   They had several different kinds.  I think they were $5 each.

  3. I like your new shoe storage system, Vanessa. I enjoy browsing Aldi's seasonal and household items section. I usually go there at least once a week.

You know I always enjoy seeing what Julian is up to. Hope he gets a new helmet or finds his old one so he can venture out with his new bike.

    1. DBG - I find the best household goods at Aldis! I went back and got a couple more containers. They were only $3.99. With all that hair Rod is going to have a time finding him a helmet, but I think I saw one around here that might work.

    1. Val - Is this the Val Williams with the sister Velicia? If not, forgive me.

I'm not sure who will get this bike. I tried to figure that out before the post, but didn't want to rush into a decision.

  5. Looking at your neatly stored shoes I had a wonderful vibe of peace...then I looked at mine and felt huge discomfort!
Julian's new bike is super cute, and Carlo wants a red bike!

    1. billa's dolls - My shoes were stressing me out for sure! I feel much better now. lol. I'm happy to have both bikes. I didn't realize the motorcycle was from the Flavas doll set. I'd been coveting that set from afar.

  6. Love the shoe containers! Ooo...you know what might make it even easier for you to grab a pair when you need them? If you used small rubber bands to wrap around each pair. Love how you have them color coordinated too.

Yesterday, I was watching The Day The Earth Stood Still (the remake starring my ultimate crush, Keanu Reeves) and I swear, Julian reminds me so much of Jaiden Smith when he was from the movie.

Love the BMX he got and the Flavas bike. Congrats! :)

    1. Tracy - Thanks for the rubber band idea. I will keep that handy. Three of the five containers are pretty shallow, so it's easy to see the shoes. I may do that for the black ones, the boots and the tennis shoes. Thanks for identifying the motorcycle. I had been wanting one of the Flava bikes. It didn't dawn on me that this was one of them. You are right about Julian and Jaiden. That is so funny.

  8. The storage containers look perfect for doll shoes. I like that they're pretty shallow so you can still get a good overview of all the shoes. I have one of those 1/6 skateboard sets with interchangeable wheels that came with a tiny screwdriver, it might be the same.

That backyard scene makes me long for summer...!

    1. Anderson's AP - Yes there were two available storage containers. One was more shallow than the other. I mixed and match a couple different sets here. That's the other beauty of them...being able to customize them a bit. It's been warm here in GA. I haven't had to wear a jacket for about a week. A few days have been a little too warm, already.

    1. Georgia Girl - I'm so tempted to go get more containers from Aldi's. You just can't beat the $3.99 price. I know as I organize more, I will be wanting more of these. We will be seeing another story from the whole family today.

  10. I found a similiar storage container at Walmart a while back. I use it for material pieces. Love that motorcycle and those trees. *Sigh* I wish we had an Ikea close by...:-)

    1. Cindi - I've seen similar at Walmart, but they are more money than I'm willing to pay. $3.99 is an unbeatable price. If you have never been to Ikea, it's definitely worth the drive down from Cleveland. Bring your walking shoes. The store is huge.

  12. Love the Flavas motorcycle. I have that one too, but got it a long time ago with Flavas Liam. Julian's bike is great! I saw a My Froggy Stuff tutorial for a bike helmet using the round half of a plastic Easter egg. Really cute and I think Julian's hair would fit under it!

  14. LOL at Jacob and his "Uh oh!" I like everything, but especially those plants. Didn't think I'd ever have to go to Ikea again. I might have to schedule another Orlando trip.

The tiny screwdriver is adorable. I bought a skateboard set for my dolls yesterday, and it came with one, too. Makes me want to get a tiny tool box. <3

  18. That little screwdriver is going to be very annoying if Julian wants his wheels changed out.

You stirred resurrected my cough laughing at Julian "off" of his bike. LOL!
