New Doll and an Apron

Well, well, well.  Vanessa bought another doll.  Will she keep her count under 10 for the year?  Who the heck knows?  I owe this next doll to one of our dolly friends, Phyllis.  She recently did a post featuring Chinese dolls, and as soon as I saw this next doll in her post, I immediately went to ebay and ordered her.  Personally, I think Phyllis should be paying for her, since she's the reason I've added yet another doll.  Without further ado.....

The nice box she arrived in, even though she isn't new.

She is one of the American Girl, Girl of Many Lands doll.  She is 9.5 inches tall.  Isn't she beautiful?

There are a total of 8 dolls.  I ended up buying two different ones the same day.  The other one hasn't arrived, yet.  I wanted two more, but they were more than I wanted to pay.  Maybe I will add them in the future.  I'm thinking kid dolls should only count for 1/2 doll.  After all, they don't take up as much space.  Or maybe that 10 doll limit should only apply to lady dolls?  Just a thought.

I had a special request to make an apron for the mini AG doll, that was similar to the one worn by the 2015 AG Girl of the year, Grace Thomas.  I was pretty happy with the results.  If anyone else is interested in buying one of these little aprons, let me know.

Here is a picture to show the difference between the two American Girl mini dolls.

  2. Your new Chinese doll is pretty. I know she's shorter than the fashion dolls, but how does she look compared to them? Does she get a place in the stories?

    2. Thank you. I subscribe to that blog, but for some reason, didn't get the last post notice.

  3. Spring Pearl is lovely and the mini AG apron is adorable.

The dolls in the Girls of Many Lands series were sculpted for the Pleasant Company by Helen Kish. I have Saba, who represents an Egyptian girl, and love her.

And by the way, a doll is a doll is a doll. Kids cannot count for half dolls. :-)

    1. DBG - Thanks. I knew those sculpts looked familiar. I love Helen Kish. Saba is on my list. I love her. But now that you've said they have to be included in my list of 10, She may have to wait until next year. You're so mean. Lol.

  4. She looks so lovely and you did an amazing job on the apron! How much do you think you'll charge for it if you make more?

    1. Leandra Holland - Thanks. That apron will be somewhere in the $8 - $9 range. Those little details like the heart and the ribbon are labor intensive.

  7. So you're already finding ways of getting round the 10 doll limit. Well, we don't mind. The AG Girl of Many Lands dolls are new to me although I have seen some of the mini AG dolls before. Both are beautiful dolls and I'm sure you will have lots of fun with them. The apron is cute too.

    1. Carrickters - I'm already up to 4 dolls so I don't think I will make the 10. But three of those dolls are kid dolls, This AG line of dolls was very new to me, too. I wish I had known about them before. I would have bought some a long time ago.

  9. The apron is a win.

Dolls of Many Lands was an amazing series -- of course they're tempting you into purchases!

My theme of 2015 is certainly working out to be "I wasn't going to buy more, but she had to come home," and I wouldn't want anyone to feel excluded from this movement.

    1. Smaller Places - Thanks. I love your 2015 theme! I am not going to abandon my goal of 10 dolls just yet. Luckily I haven't been really tempted by anything Mattel has put out recently. And I don't have a Barbie Collector subscription. I may still make it or come very close.

  10. Congratulations on the new additions!

The Girls of Many Lands are one of my favourite releases (I have Neela and Leyla) and while I'm still disappointed that they weren't more successful, it's always brilliant to see people adding them to their collections.

    1. jSarie - I can't believe I am just finding out about these dolls. But then, why would I know about them? I am not a follower of American Girl dolls, so I guess it makes sense. I'm sorry for the company they weren't more successful, but happy for me, because they would be a lot more expensive right now, if they were.

    1. Marta - Are you trying to jinx me? I think you are right I may end up with more than 10 dolls, but that is still the goal. If I get close, I will still count it as a win for me.

  13. Beautiful doll and adorable apron!

I would say that small dolls count for 1/2 a doll, but then, I am an infamous enabler when it comes to dolls, fabric, beads, baked goods.... I'm not the most reliable person. ;)

    1. Sarah - You are a woman after my own heart. I agree kid dolls should count for half. Lol. Dolls, fabric, beads, AND baked goods? You sound like me, except for the beads.

  14. She doesn't look like an AG release at all. I like her face a lot.

That apron is adorbs! I tried to make a money apron for me to use at the doll show and it took me 12 hours! I hate sewing. My brain just doesn't compute it.

    1. Muff - That's because she's a Helen Kish sculpt, and they all have her signature look, which I've always loved. 12 hours! Well you are to be commended for tackling a task that doesn't bring you any joy at all. There are parts about sewing that really made me hate it. First and foremost was the material the patterns were made out of. I now use tracing paper for patterns, and I enjoy it so much more. Amazing how something so small can turn you off to something. But it did.

  15. Congrats on your American Girl, Girl of Many Lands doll. She's lovely. She will add size variety.

The apron looks incredible. I like the colors and the trim at the top.

    1. D7ana - Thanks. Size variety is important. I need to find her a family. I wonder what clothes she can fit. Probably some of the Sparkle Girlz. I may have to make her some more Chinese inspired outfits.

  17. Ha, Ha! You think I should pay! If enabling were a reason to pay, you would be paying for half my collection! : ). I guess we all kind of enable one another out here in the doll world, don't we! When you think about it, the Helen Kish dolls are very expensive, so getting these girls for just $25 to $35 is a great find. I still like counting kids as 1/2 a doll!
