Family Matters and More Storage

Maya has earned a permanent dolly role in Morristown.  The next story will more than likely take place at the hair salon.  Maya is the youngest sister, with Karla being the oldest, and Kara being the middle sister.

"What's up with that dress?  I hope you didn't wear that to work?"  (Karla)
"Are you seriously asking me that question in that get up you have on?"  (Maya)
"This is a classy outfit, and my boobs aren't hanging out all over the place."  (Karla)
"I'm sure once my boobs start sagging, I, too, will cover them up."  (Maya)

"Ladies, can we get this picture out of the way?  I have to get back to work."  (Kara)
"She always try to act like my mother.  So irritating!"  (Maya)

"The last thing I would want to be is your mother.  I already have one immature daughter."  (Karla)
"Smile, ladies."  (Kara)

These sisters remind me of the Braxton sisters.  Not in looks, but in their mannerisms.  Maya would be Tamar Braxton.  Karla reminds me of Towanda, even though Towanda isn't the oldest sister, and Kara would be the level headed, Toni Braxton.  If you are not familiar with the Braxtons, Toni Braxton is an R&B singer, who started her solo career around 1991.  Tamar used to sing back up for her, until just a couple years ago, when she pursued her own solo career.  She is currently one of the co-hosts on the talk show, The Real.  The family also has a reality show called, Braxton Values.

Well it didn't take Holiday Barbie 2014 long to hop out of that box and attach herself to a family.  Janianah, from Jaye's Doll Space, left a comment on my last post, that got me thinking this lady should probably be deboxed.  She is Charles' mother.  As a remind, Charles is Lisa's husband.  Lisa and Charles are in counseling trying to save their marriage.  Lisa and her mother-in-law have an okay relationship, but Lisa blames her for Charles not being able to be the man she needs him to be.  More on that later.

Thought I would share a couple more of my storage ideas.
I found these great jewelry holders at the dollar store sometime last year.  They came on hangers, which makes it easy to hang them up for easy access.  I plan to get more of these if I can find them.  It's so much easier to quickly put some of the small items here for easy viewing.

This one is not from the dollar store.  I think I paid $9 for this one.

I've been asked how I store my clothes.  I've tried various ways, and ended up with using these canvas bins for most of the casual clothes.  I have two bins for lady clothes (one for dresses and one for separates), one for lady outerwear, and one for all male fashions.  This works best for me, because I can easily dump out each bin, find whatever I need, and throw everything back in without too much fuss.  It's also easy to pitch clothes into the right bin when I am undressing dolls.

I know they look a mess, but it's the easiest way I've found so far to get to the clothes and put them away quickly.  These bins fit nicely on one of my bookshelves, too.  Currently, I have the Barbie Style clothes and the Sparkle Girlz fashions in separate plastic bags.

Back to the bins I spoke about two days ago.  I am so excited to have moved to this doll storage method.  The beauty of this is that this method can grow with my collection.  Above is a picture of my Asian doll drawer.  Looks like I will be starting a second one soon.  The nice thing is that I can move this first bin close to the second bin and still keep the different category of dolls organized.  These bins will probably be sold forever, so I can continue to buy them as needed.  Some of the dolls shown are still dressed.  For the most part, I store the dolls naked.

One cart will have my body donors and loose heads.

  1. I like doing families. I think the slight variations in the dolls faces make them natural look like sister or family! Great choice. I look forward to seeing your stories.

    1. Msl Leo - Now that they aren't making SIS dolls anymore, I have to hold on to everyone that I have, so I might as well use them.

  2. Maya gets to be a regular! I totally fan Maya.

I'm eyeing your storage ideas, as there's still scope for me to do reorganizing. January's work improved things, but I'm still too likely to have stuff randomly shoved in plastic bags hanging in the closet.

    1. Smaller Place - I think Maya will keep Morristown on it's toes. I have some really great dolly items that I never get to see because they are hidden away. So better storage hopefully means i get to use the stuff I buy.

  3. Ah sisters are wonderful aren't they? LOL. Your drawer full of body donors reminded me of one time when I laid out all my dolls on my queen size bed. Marianne said it looked like a morgue! LOL :-)

    1. Cindi - Luckily I don't have sisters, although the right sister could be lots of fun. Lol about the morgue comment. Yes lifeless dolls all heaped together could be a very scary sight.

  4. Charles mom is a hottie! Maya should heed the advice of her older sister but I am confident Ms. Nikki will put her in her place.

  6. I cracked up about Karla commenting about Maya's attire. I can hardly wait to see the sisters interact some more.

Holiday Barbie looks good and hardly old enough to be Charles' mother. She should get some cougar action. LOL!

Thanks for the shout out, Vanessa. I'm sure my Holiday Barbie is still rolling her eyes every time I walk by. The body donor is on the way, so she won't have to wait long.

    1. Janainah - Well my Holiday Barbie is happy you stopped by, else her butt would still be in that box. Now she can breath. She's much prettier out of the box. She just needs to get her hair done.

  11. Nice storage ideas. Kara (the one on the far right?) reminds me of Tamar. I think it's the make up and (lace front) hair, lol. Mattel spared no paint when they made the two articulate Kara's. :-)

    1. Tracy - Karla is on the far right. Yes the hair is Tamar, but the facial expression is Towanda. Lol. I really should have gotten more of the articulated Karas for body donors. I don't know what I was thinking.

  17. Girl I can't with Tamar! She is cray cray...and Maya should be nothing like her. Those naked headless dolls gave me a Chuckie Movie flashback. lol Happy to see you getting organized though. :)

    1. Sonya - LOL about Tamar. I couldn't at first, but now on the show The Real, I like her. Her cray cray works on that show. As a doll person, I never allow myself to watch movies where the dolls are killing people. I would never be able to sleep.

  18. Loving all the organizing tips! Holiday Barbie found a place in my crew yesterday, too. The toddler needed Pull ups, so I stopped at Walmart to grab another accessory pack with the flat shoes at the same time. She was down to $7 and I could not pass her up at that price. This store had the Caucasian doll, too but I didn't like her face up as much.

    1. Jewell - Oooh, I can't wait to see what role your doll will play. $7....steal! I just looked on line, the Caucasian one is too plain for me. Not to mention, even at $7, I can't add her because of my 10 doll limit.

    1. Brini - Honestly, I just need to remove some of the other non Barbie doll stuff from my basement to REALLY make the organizing thing work. I have plans to sell some stuff on Craig's list. It's just been too cold to drag stuff outside to take pictures.

  20. Hi Vanessa, I love the new characters. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy the new stories a lot.
The storage ideas are excellent, my problem is I don't have a doll room so everything must stay packed up in drawers and boxes, but I have not so many things, so far I can manage. Anyway, the jewelry holders are a stroke of genius!

    1. Ms. Toni - Hello and welcome to my blog. Glad you enjoyed the post, and great deal on the holiday doll. For her body I just used one of the more recent Artsy dolls. I think she came out early last year. Most of the Artsy bodies will match her skin tone.
