Waiting to be Deboxed

This year I am limiting myself to only buying 10 dolls.  Yes, you heard me right.  I just have way too many dolls, and I hate not being able to enjoy them all.  I have hundreds of deboxed dolls that I use for my stories.  There are another 50 or so boxed dolls, that I have no idea if I will ever debox them, and then there are the ones below that will definitely be deboxed.  A few of them I forgot were even here.

Totally forgot cutie pie Finnick was here.  I bought Edward for his tux.

There are four Nikkis for body donors.  Had to stock up since they aren't articulating dolls like they used to.

My dolls have been planning a ski trip forever.  They haven't made it yet.  Maybe this year.  These were also bought for their articulated bodies.

Totally forgot these two were here.

Quite a few of these were purchased from Barbie Collector.  This year I've decided not to join the club, so I won't be tempted to purchase excess dolls.  So far the only doll that has tempted me is the Lammily doll.  I think she will be one of the 10.  I like the new Barbie face sculpts, but they have a really young look to them, and I have enough young looking people in my collection.  Who knows, maybe I won't buy but a couple dolls this year.

  1. Hi Van, the dolls you are plannig to debox are stunning. It looks like this year everybody is going to try to limit the new dolls buying!

  3. Only 10 new dolls this year huh? It is easy to say stuff like this in January, but the year is very long. We will see.....
Looks like you have some wonderful newer dolls to debox however. This should be lots of fun. (I think all dolls should come out of their boxes, but that is my opinion especially since I am a doll!)

    1. Isabelle - You are right, but a girl can hope .... You never know what dolls are going to come out. But January is almost over and I haven't bought a doll...so if I limit myself to one doll a month and skip a couple months I will be okay. I am with you on deboxing dolls, but when you have over 300 deboxed you really don't get to enjoy them that much. I like being able to see the boxed dolls as I walk by. Lord knows if they get deboxed, I may never see them again. Lol.

  5. Wow, you have some great dolls still in the boxes! I have a hard time waiting to debox unless they are for body donors. I also need to limit my purchases in 2015. I am not committing to a number yet, but I definitely need to keep to a tighter budget and enjoy more what I already have.

    1. Phyllis - I forgot to include one that will be acting as Tina's matron of honor for her wedding. When I walk into my basement and see all the deboxed dolls looking at me, and asking "when are you going to play with us?", I realize i just have too many dolls. But I love them all. Having my dolls in the basements adds to my limited play. It's either too hot or too cold down there. I need to spend some money and get that issue rectified.

  6. I really appreciate your decision. It could be hard to manage so many dolls. For my part I would like to count exactly how many barbies and barbie type dolls I have and sell half of them. Because are too much for playing with and my home is too small:-(

    1. Bambuc - Welcome to my blog. I just went and looked at your doll blog. Oh my! You have 3 Barbies for sale, and one of them has grey hair, which I love. Luckily I have no idea what you are selling them for since I don't know what currency that is. I chose not to figure it out. I didn't want to cave and buy a doll in January. Good luck with your doll sales!

I sell some of my dolls, generaly to my doll blogger friends, here from Hungary. I don't sell on ebay, maybe one day...It's only 20 January, and I bought 3 dolls:-((( I like very much you blog.

  7. I must say that would be a challenge for me. I have my eyes on two more Barbies and a cutie 18" from Target. My son has already claimed the real estate for his two new collectibles and Halo's Master Chief is now on my doll shelf! I'm going to figure it out. I only had my eyes on five this year.I want a serger so that where the dolly money is going to go.

    1. Brinit - Those 18" are kind of tempting. I want to sew for 18", so I may end up with a new 18" as part of my 10. I have had a serger since 1995 that I have yet to use. I was dating a fashion designer at the time, and we bought it for him. I just bought a serger CD so I could figure out how it works. I really don't need it, since I have the serger stitches on my Janome, but I can't bring myself to sell it.....yet. Do you sew for big people, too? If so, that serger will really come in handy.

  8. I admire your restraint with that 10 dolls for the year resolution! Although having all of these dolls to unbox must soften that a little.

I really like the outfits on those 4 Barbie Style dolls - they're really begging to be de-boxed just for the mix-and-match possibilities! :)

    1. jSarie - You are right. Having so many dolls to debox, and having such nice dolls in my collection, waiting to be played with, does soften it. Another sore spot for me is not having a great way to store my doll clothes, which is why I have yet to debox the Barbie Style dolls. I buy so many clothes, and most of them rarely get worn because I have a hard time seeing what I have.

  9. I admire the goal you've set. Any female dolls I buy this year will likely be purchased as body donors or wardrobe builders. I have those Twilight dolls on my wish list for their clothes. Stocking up on Nikkis was a good idea.

    1. Jewell - I really feel like I can get really close to achieving that goal. Especially if I don't join the BC club. By the way, here is a link to a video that explains what you get if you join the W Club. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0EGZjdVcwE&feature=youtu.be

  10. For me, dolls are like baked goods. They never make it to the car unopened! I have Finnick. He has a cute face but he does have a mature look. There is no passing him off as a teen.

    1. Ms. Leo - That is so funny that you debox dolls before you get to the car. Lol! You know I love my mature looking dolls, so Finnick is right on time. You are so good at selling off your extra doll stuff, which makes a big difference.

    2. I try to leave the packaging in the store. The sales clerk asked my why I did that. I told her I am try to keep my carbon foot print low. She just looked at me. It was all that I could think of at the time. Hubby notices new dolls in boxes when they come in the house. He doesn't see a thing when they are just in my purse.

    3. Ms. Leo - Hilarious! Let's hope your hubby never starts reading these blogs.

  11. Hello from Spain: I'm going to buy this unless dolls year too. I have too and finally I have my 5 favorites. I have on my list of future purchases of new fashionistas. In my country are not yet on sale in stores. Keep in touch

    1. Marta - It always helps when you get the dolls on your wishlist. I, too, have bought the dolls that were on my list, which makes it much easier to buy less. Hope the new dolls make it to your country, soon.

  12. oh dear Ihave the same problem but I have already re joined the Barbie collector club and used my first reward. I have dolls that are not deboxed. My problem is I am also joining the W Club again. I have sold off some of my convention dolls and have decided to downsize some of the unboxed ones and ones that do not get alot of play time. I don't know if I could limit myself to ten dolls though, lol. I do plan to cut back a bit on W Club unless it is Poppy, the dynamite girls or Victoire. Help, I have an addiction to pretty dollies! LOL...

    1. Lisa - I considered joining the W club last year, and again this year, but decided against it both times. It helps that I don't like the Poppy doll for this year. She's nice, but not one I'm crazy about. For some reason, I have never been an Agnes fan. That helps, too. Don't feel bad. Most of us are dolly addicts. I'm hoping this year I will make some strides at getting better. I did sell one of my boxed dolls on Ebay a couple weeks ago. That's a start.

  13. 10 dolls, hmm. Good luck. Maybe you should put up a list on your blog and fill it out so we can all keep you accountable (or not, as the case may be). However, the dolls you have to debox look great so maybe you'll manage.

    1. Carrickters - I don't mind being held accountable. I really think I can get close. It helps that I'm totally disgusted with the number of dolls I'm trying to "play" with. The thought of adding more dolls that I don't have time to play with, is not that appealing. We will see how it goes. I will keep you guys posted every time I buy a doll, so we can keep count together.

  14. Ah, you, too? Doll over-population problem? Sigh.

I don't think I bought any new ones last year although I have many to be deboxed from previous purchases. It's fun to open up rediscovered finds though. Just need the space to enjoy them.

Best wishes that you stick to 10 new dolls ;-).

  15. Hi Vanessa!
I have the same problem - way too many dolls, not enough space. Some have moved on to the thrift store, others are still here. And as you saw, I got a couple more! LOL We'll see how I do with "not buying anymore." :-)

    1. Cindi - You seem to be relatively new to doll collecting, so I imagine you will still be buying lots of dolls over the next couple of years. That's good that you've been able to let go of a few already. Can't wait to see what you buy next.

  16. I made it through Lent one time without buying any new dolls. Clothes and play sets are a bigger temptation for me, however. Are you restricting those purchases too?

    1. limbe dolls - I am limiting clothes and playsets too. I don't know what the number is for those, but it will be much less than what it used to be. Now that I am excited about sewing again, I think clothes will be less of a temptation.

  17. You definitely need to Debox Finnick! He is too much of a hunk to be boxed! I like the last doll too. 3 cheers for a ski trip..I'm in!
