Lena's New Work Outfit

"Hey guys.  I finally made a few garments from my revised patterns.  I decided to make myself a work outfit.  I will be making more soon.  The best way to show off my designs is to wear them.  So here's my plan.  I want to create some business casual outfits, as well as some more trendy outfits for the younger generation. "   (Lena)

"Just in case you are interested in the sideview, here it is."  (Lena)

"So I created animal print pants for the younger crew.  Animal print seems to be popular amongst all age ranges these days."  (Lena)

Valencia's body is marked for pattern drafting.

A few days ago, D7ana sent me a link to an awesome doll fashion stylist blog.  The address is http://fashiondollstylist.blogspot.com.  She has tons of tutorials, and inspirational posts.  I had already drafted my slopers before seeing her site, but I'm looking forward to using some of her tips as I move forward in my sewing quest.  One thing she talks about is 'marking your doll'.  It's suggested you do this before drafting the slopers.  I'm sure it makes it a little easier.  I didn't do it beforehand, but I felt it will come in handy when I make future outfits.  I've used Valencia's body, which may become a permanent donor to Lena's fashion studio.  I got the red tape from Hobby Lobby in the art department.  I think it's 1/16" of an inch.  The plaid pants that Valencia is wearing, are the first pants I made from the adjusted pattern.  I totally forgot to cut the pieces separate so I could line up the plaid.  It's okay, though.  These are considered "samples", and they are often not quite right.   Right now the plan is just to sew, sew, sew.  I'm not really focusing on styling.  I'm using material that is already in my stash, which isn't really the best for current fashions.  As I get better, I will focus more on styling.

  3. Hi Vanessa,
I saw D7ana's comment to you about the fashion doll stylist blog. I looked at also and think it's wonderful. One can learn alot from it. If I can quit crocheting sweaters long enough, I'll really study her blog to create and sew my own doll clothes. :-)

    1. Cindi - My advice is to continue crocheting, get really good, and start selling those creations on Etsy. Crocheted pieces are harder to come by than sewn outfits. Then you can start sewing after that. Lol!

  4. Go on, Lena! Making a name for yourself. The leopard print separates look great. I like how you've fitted the skirt so that it doesn't "ride up" in the back.

Vanessa, glad you like that sewing doll clothes blog. It's an inspiring one ;-)

    1. Shasha - Thanks. It's nice to be back to sewing again. It's not quite like riding a bike. I seem to have forgotten all the little tricks I used to use.

    1. Muff - Thanks. You got that right! If she didn't have that big ol' booty, I wouldn't have to make her a whole new wardrobe.

  9. The clothes look great, Lena should be very pleased with herself/yourself. And now I'm a bit confused about where I found the Fashion Doll Stylist blog because I've been reading it for over a year and I thought I got onto it from your blog in the first place - but obviously not.

    1. Carrickters - Thanks. We are both pleased. No, I had never seen that fashion doll site until just last week. You more than likely would have seen some comments from me on her site, if I had. I left about 4 comments after just one day of reading. lol.

  13. The pants still look good to me! Yeah, maybe you don't want to sell them. I'm sure your doll like having new things even if the plaid isn't placed the best. I checkout that webpage and WOW! It will be great fun looking though old posts.

With Lena's "attributes" all tops will look like they have a peplum in the back! LOL! I love animal prints. My mother always looks at me sideways when I have them on. One day she told me I looked like my father's sister in that top. My father said "what is wrong with the way my sister looks?" Silence! Not everyone can rock the print. Lena is!

    1. Ms. Leo - You are cracking me up, today! Like I said, women of all ages be trying to rock the animal print.

Everything that I make over the next month or so, will be considered samples, meaning they will not be sold. This way my Prettie Girls can get the new wardrobe they need. They are all excited. Once I get my sewing mojo back, I will consider making some items for sale.
