Cruise Ships and a Sofa

Halle and Diego's plane has landed in Miami.  They are now headed to the port where the cruise ship is parked.  I thought I would show the two cruise ships I will be using.

First up is the Barbie Cruise ship.  This was a thrift store find about 10 years ago.  I left the price on it.  It was $4.24.

This is the inside.  It was missing a few pieces.

The right side can be changed into three different area.  Here it is set up as a buffet.  I will fill it with great dishes.

It can also convert to a sleeping area.  Halle and Diego will not be sleeping here.

And thirdly it can be a dance floor.

On the left side there are changing pictures that can alter the scenery.

The original set comes with a very, very small pool and a lounge chair and table.  I'm going to add a much larger pool.  I'm trying out the swing set because the newest Barbie Cruise Ship comes with a swing set.

Here it is with a lounger and table.  All the entertaining and eating will take place in this area of the cruise ship.

Next, up is the Barbie Friendship Cruise ship.  I bought this from ebay about 6 months ago.  I plan to use this as Halle and Diego's private cabin.

I will fix up their bedroom to be a little more romantic.

They will also be able to lounge on their private deck.

Last up is a custom sofa I just finished.  It's been awhile since I've made a sofa.  It felt good to do it again.

  1. Ah! I remember that Pink Barbie Cruise Ship from when I was a little girl. They don't build 'em like they used to!

    1. Verona - I never remember seeing any of the cruise ships or airplanes when I was younger. I almost bought the newest one. They were selling it for $50 a few months ago. Of course, the idea of three cruise ships was pretty silly.

    2. Three cruise ships is almost an armada. You could have recreated famous sea battles!

I actually never knew barbie had ships and airplanes, I'm guessing they weren't sold over here. I love how they managed to fit EVERYTHING into that first ship!

Your sofa is looking great too!

    3. Anderson's - Thanks! Lol about the sea battles. You would be amazed at how much stuff Barbie has. I am constantly running across things I didn't know she had.

  2. When ever I see the pink cruise ship in the thrift shops it is usually broken. :-(
Funny, I was just wondering why you weren't making sofas anymore. I decided there must have been a reason and didn't ask. This is a very nice one!

    1. Grandmommy - I bought the Barbie train the same week as I bought this ship. As for the sofas, it was never my plan to make them all the time. I have so many things to accomplish and right now the focus is on real cooking and real baking. Of course when someone wants a sofa, I will always oblige.

    1. Heather - Thanks. I have to select a few more people to enjoy this cruise or Halle and Diego are going to be very lonely.

  8. Georgia Girl - I have to get some more passengers. You are the last one to get a sectional. I really want to make my dolls a sectional, but just haven't taken the time. We desperately need one over here.

  9. I absolutely love that sofa. It is super stylish. I also find the cruise ship interesting. We never get the great variety of things here in South Africa like in the rest of the world. I never even knew Barbie had a cruise liner. You have such an amazing collection of doll stuff and you are always very lucky with your thrift store finds. If I ever want to sell my collection I might consider you to be the most worthy candidate. Lol. Shipping from my third world country is the issue though. Not trustworthy and very expensive to boot. If I could trust the postage system here I would have ordered a couch from you long ago.

    1. Duke of Swann - Thanks so much. Your kind words mean a lot. Maybe I can take a trip to South Africa and put a sofa in my suitcase. lol. There is an even newer Barbie Cruise ship that came out late last year. It's really nice.

    1. Marta - Thanks. I haven't figured out all the details yet. I may shoot it on a green screen like they do for the movies, and just place it into water scenes.

  11. Classy sofa - nice color and texture with the print in scale. Old Joe reminds me that we have to get a Van sofa for him. Someday, I answer him ;-)

The cruise ships look fun. I also look forward to your improvements of the ships. I like the pool addition - the original pool was too small.

I laughed when I read that Halle and Diego would not be sleeping there. Old Joe wants to know if they'll be sleeping on the couch. I just smiled at him. To think he was married ;-D

    1. D7ana - Thanks. Tell Joe I will have the camouflage material waiting for his sofa. lol. I don't know what they were thinking when they added the baby pool. It was more like a bath tub. Maybe Old Joe was deployed a little too long and he forgot what it was like to be married.

  13. I'm sure that you'll get any of these as the perfect cruises for Halle and Diego. I've got one, but it's the latest and I think yours are bigger and better designed. You were lucky to find them at the thrift store!

  14. Baby, let's cruise away from hereeeee, *singing*

Who ever designed that first ship sure put a lot of effort into making it as versatile as possible. I bet it's HUGE in person.

That is a very comfy looking sofa.

  15. Bonjour Vanessa !
Le bateau de croisière ! Waw !

  20. The cruise ship looks very small but all it takes is a big imagination to make it bigger. ;)

The furniture, as always, is beautiful! You are ingenious in your craft of doll furniture making -- an Ethan Allen for dollies!

  21. BTW, the illustrations for the dance floor reminds me of the set of Soul Train! LOL!

  22. Love the couch and ships! I just made a new couch myself. For some reason I've been in the mood to create things with my sewing machine lately. My next thing may be a chair or some clothes. :-)

  26. KenyaDoll - Thanks! I like Ethan Allen. I will definitely have to expand this ship a bit to make it a little more realistic. It will be interesting. I like the Soul Train reference.
