Family Dinner Part 2 (Photostory)

"Thank you guys for coming.  Hope to see you again soon."  (Owner)
"Thanks.  The food was delicious."  (Debbie)

"Welcome to Sashimi.  Four for dinner?"  (Waitress)
"Yes.  Can we get a booth?"  (Danielle)

"Looks like we will have a booth ready soon.  Would you like to wait?"  (Waitress)
"Yes, please."  (Danielle)

Julian has quietly slipped away to say hello to Nicole.

"Hi, Nicole."  (Julian)

"Julian, what are you doing here?!"  (Nicole)

"Okay Kathryn.  You mind your manners for auntie."  (Debbie)
"I will."  (Kathryn)
"I'm going to walk you guys out."  (Debbie)

"Mommy, Daddy's here!  Can I go say hi?"  (Nicole)

"Yes, but hurry back.  You need to finish your dinner."  (Melanie)

Debbie and family head to the front door, where Debbie is meeting her husband, Dr. Sheppard.

"Hi Daddy.  Hi momma D."  (Nicole)
"Hey sweetie.  How are you?"  (Rod)
"Hi, Nicole"  (Danielle)

"Hello Danielle.  How are you?"  (Debbie)

"Debbie, hi! I didn't realize that was you over there."  (Danielle)
Debbie and Danielle converse a bit more before they leave.

"Ma'am how are you doing over here?  Is everything okay with your dinner?"  (Waitress)

"Oh yes, the food is wonderful.  I just seem to have lost my appetite."  (Melanie)
"Oh I'm sorry.  Would you like a 'to go' box?"  (Waitress)

"Are you two ready to order?"  (Owner)
"I think we are."  (Diego)

"Honey, would you like to share an appetizer? (Diego)

"That will be fine.  Maybe by then I will have picked something for an entree.  Everything looks so good."  (Halle)

"Your booth is ready."  (Waitress)
"Can we get a booster seat and a high chair."  (Danielle)
"Sure"  (Waitress)

"Daddy, can I finish eating my dinner with you?"  (Nicole)
"That's up to you and your mother."  (Rod)
"I'll go get the highchair and booster seat."  (Waitress)

Rod and Danielle follow Nicole to the table where Melanie is sitting.

"Hello Melanie."  (Rod)
"Melanie."  (Danielle)

"Rod.  Danielle."  (Melanie)

"Mommy, can I finish eating with them?"  (Nicole)

"So you want to abandon me and eat with your dad?"  (Melanie)

"Honey, I'm going to the table with Julian."  (Danielle)
"Okay.  I will be there in one minute." (Rod)

At the restaurant entrance, Debbie greets her husband, who has just arrived.

"I'm sorry it took me so long.  What do you say we skip dinner and go straight home?"  (Dr. Sheppard)
"Skip dinner?  But I was looking forward to a night out with my husband."  (Debbie)
"I know, but just think, for the first time in a long time, we have the house all to ourselves.  I think we should take advantage of that."  (Dr. Sheppard)

"Thank you."  (Danielle)
"What can I get you  guys to drink?"  (Waitress)

Danielle gives the drink orders for the family.

"Keep going."  (Danielle)

"Are you guys still waiting for the rest of your party before you order?"  (Waitress)

"Oh there he is, now!"  (Kara)
"Great. I'll go get another chair."  (Waitress)

"Hello lovely ladies.  Sorry I'm so late.  Things got a little hectic at practice, today."  (Chris)

"Hi Daddy.  I want to sit with you."  (Jolisa)
"Hey Buttercup."  (Chris)

"Pretty please Mommy!"  (Nicole)
"I guess so.  Come give me a hug first."  (Melanie)

"You be a good girl and remember, no one loves you more than I do."  (Melanie)
"I know.  I love you, too."  (Nicole)

Danielle peaks around to see what's happening at Melanie's table.

Danielle is wondering what is going on, and wondering what is taking Rod so long.

  1. *sigh* That Melanie. If I recall correctly, she left Rod. She's the one that decided to split up their family. So why she gotta be so testy all the time is beyond me. Regret is a mofo. Is that psychiatrist helping her at all? Oh, well, at least she was less snarky than she used to be and she didn't say anything to Julian so that's good. She still a piece of work though!

    1. What did she say to Julian before?

    2. Muff - Oddly enough there is a real Melanie in my life and 14 yrs later she is still snarky at her Rod. She and I are at least now "friends". She recently got married to someone else, and she is still harassing her Rod.

I didn't want Danielle throwing over in tables in the restaurant, so that's why I removed her and Julian. People would have thought they were watching Real Housewives of Morristown. LOL!

    3. AG Lanc - Oh you missed the episode where Melanie and Julian met for the first time. It was a video and you can see it here. http://vansdolltreasures.blogspot.com/2012/07/nicole-goes-home-video.html

  2. I guess Dr.Sheppard really wants to take advantage of having the night off from "saving the world" LOL. I can in a way, understand how Melaine is feeling, but she needs to put herself a bit more in Nicole's shoes.

    1. Verona - Dr. Sheppard was hungry, but not for food. lol. I can see Melanie's viewpoint, too. I think I would feel more sorry for her, if she had wanted the family life and Rod left and built that family life with someone else. Melanie just wasn't feeling expanding the family.

  3. Well, I guess there's been some improvement on Melanie's part. At least she's being fairly civil, considering her former behavior. But she still makes me wary...

    1. Alura - Yes, I think Melanie has improved. She at least spoke to Rod and Danielle, and she let Nicole go have dinner with them.

    2. Whew. Did worry that Melanie was going to snip and Danielle was going to draw back, but see, no major brouhaha. I felt some sympathy for her when Nicole asked to eat with the others - that has to be hard for a single mother to hear - but I am glad Melanie didn't attack anyone.

    1. Duke of Swann - Awww thanks. This Melanie is fashioned after a person in my life, who I met 10 yrs ago. It was rough going in the beginning. We have since become decent friends, but she's still very snarky towards her ex, even though she has recently gotten married.

  5. I think Danielle made a good move by greeting Melanie and then taking Julian to their table. That way Melanie didn't have the opportunity to say anything inappropriate.

  7. Melanie really is a piece of art. I would think that she moved on and found someone else but seems not the case here. I love the different characters in the resturant.

    1. william - In real life, sometimes exes never move on. They just harbor the anger they have for their ex for many years. Even if the ex doesn't deserve it. It's always in the best interest of all parties, especially the kids, to let the past go, and create a new reality.

  8. Wow, so many different stories happening at your restaurant. I actually feel sorry for Melanie - it's hard to see your child want to go eat with the other parent and leave you alone (no matter how badly she had acted in the past). Danielle acted wisely though. It's a good thing the owner has no idea of what possiblities for drama currently operate in his restaurant.

    1. Carrickters - I agree that it's hard when your child prefers to spend time with the ex. She could look at the positive side and say, "Wow, my daughter has a father who adores her and loves spending time with her. There aren't a lot of dads out there who cherish their child the way Rod does. On top of that he has a wife who loves my daughter, and who brings my daughter a lot of joy."

If the parents always put the child first, and put their hurt feelings aside, I think more parents would be able to see the benefit of a child having people who love them in their life. I've always said that a child can never have too much love. It's only going to make them better adults.

  9. Oh my god! Of any places they had to go into the one Melanie was in!! I was like in a soap opera, couldn't stop reading how it was going to end! I hope everything is ok, Melanie still looks angry and uncomfortable with the situation... I also loved the way you included many stories into the same scene. Great job!

    1. Rossetti - Thanks. Well you know Morristown isn't very big. They were bound to run into each other at some point. Melanie is still very uncomfortable with the situation. I think they are all uncomfortable with the situation. I don't know how long it will take for that uneasy feeling to go away. It may never go away, but hopefully they will get more comfortable as time goes on.

  10. Melaine needs to let go of the past.Rod is married now and she should accept the fact, they can still be friends in best interest of Nicole.
I really enjoyed this story .

    1. sarah key - I agree with you, but sometimes it's just very hard. I do understand how she feels a little bit. I know it's hard for some parents to see their kids with other women or men. Especially if the kid likes the other person, too.

  11. You know I am always different. LOL I give Melanie credit for letting her daughter go over there. I might not have.
I think it would be kind of rude for her to go eat with someone who just came in...even if it is her dad. It was a "date" with her mom that night.
As always fun and thought provoking story. :-)

    1. Grandmommy - Ironically, in the first version I shot that got erased, she didn't let her go. But then everyone was a little ticked off. When I reshot it, it played out completely different. In this version, Melanie comes out as a hero to her daughter, versus a villain. It's never easy either way.

It wasn't a date per se, Melanie spent part of the dinner on the phone taking business calls. Now that's rude. It was just easier to stop here for dinner than cook when she got home.

  12. Oh I'm so happy she didn't say any thing to Julian, but
Melanie is still crazy and I don't really like how she said there names or how she said what she said to Nicole. Still it was a good story and
She wasn't such a mean woman to the family so I'm cool.

    1. Courney - Melanie is still a work in progress, but she was trying to be better. I'm happy she didn't say anything mean to or about the kids. She's not at the point of being able to acknowledge them though.

  14. Great story Vanessa!! My favorite couple of Morristown has returned yay! Melanie has made some changes, so I applaud that. The old Melanie would probably have requested the check and left as soon as she spotted the sight of them. Lol! Nice story lines.

    1. Georgia Girl - You are so right about the old Melanie. lol. As I mentioned in a comment above, in my first version she said no to Nicole. Well not only were the kids unhappy, but my camera killed all my pictures. I was very happy to see she had a change of heart the second time around. I hadn't planned on changing the story, but when Nicole threw the 'pretty please' in there, Melanie and I both caved. Those two words get me every time.

  16. Vanessa:

I think Melanie has made some strides towards being civil at least. I know it must be hard, so I can't be too hard on her. I was impressed that she even let Nicole go to finish her meal with her Dad and his new family -- a vast improvement from their earlier encounters, but she still has a ways to go. Cudoes to Danielle for separating herself from the situation. Also, I just love the Asian restaurant and all the stories going on!

    1. Phyllis - Melanie has made progress. I think she's better at it when she doesn't see Danielle and the boys with Rod. I'm just thinking back to her willingness to let Nicole go to DisneyWorld for Christmas. I don't know if she will ever get used to seeing him with his new family.
