I stopped by Walmart to see if they had TJ and Dwayne from the Kenya collection. They had the Kenya dolls, but none of the men. I was under the impression that all the Kenya dolls were $14.97. Not the case. They have two different versions. The $9.97 version and the $14.97 version. This Walmart had both. The only difference was the $15 one had a larger box and included a plastic purse and maybe an extra pair of shoes. I didn't need the extra fluff, so I got the $10 version.
Her name is Tyesha. She is named after a very special young lady in my life.
The outfit is really cute and pretty nice quality.
This is a horrible picture of the shoes, but I was quite impressed with the design and the quality.
The 12 in Stormtroopers were on sale for $6. I couldn't pass that up. Why two? Because in Star Wars, the movie, you never saw just one Stormtrooper, they traveled in groups. I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with them.
It looks like $10 Kenya isn't as articulated as the $20 ones were last year. How is $14 Kenya's articulation?
ReplyDeleteMiss_Lola - The articulation is the same on both. You are right. The company seems to have taken away articulation on the new dolls. Probably related to cost. I stopped by several Family Dollars, and the Kenya dolls are nowhere to be found. I do know the $20 dolls were clearanced out. I'm sorry that I missed out on them. You can see more details about the men here. http://limbedolls.blogspot.com/2013/08/fashion-madness-men.html
DeleteToo bad about the loss in articulation. (For us adult collectors, at least - kids may feel differently and they're the target audience after all.) Maybe I should get another one while I still can.
DeleteAlso, you can never have too many stormtroopers.
I'm in the Memphis area and we still have some of the $20 kenyas marked down to 15. Wondering if I need to go buy some to pass along to people who missed the first wave?
DeleteAnderson's All Purpose - It is a shame they had to change the articulation. I would say if you can get the other ones, to go for it.
DeleteMiss Lola - I don't know. Once you add shipping in, I don't think it's worth it at all.
DeleteI love Tyesha's hair and that printed shirt. It's nice to see even $10 Kenya's have some articulation.
ReplyDeleteVerona - Yes, the articulation on both versions of the Walmart doll are the same. The suede shorts will come in handy here, too.
DeleteIs Kenya a new doll series? I haven't seen her in my local Wal*Mart but shes gorgeous. Maybe you could use the storm troopers for a comic convention or as a costume for two of the men on Halloween. I dont know if you can fit a doll in them but if you cant you could pretend they are. :)
ReplyDeleteLeandra - You must have missed the Kenya hoopla last year. She was first introduced with full articulation at the Family Dollar stores. The best thing about them was the varied skin tones they came in, and of course the articulation. They were priced at $20, which caused a bit of a stir. Apparently, they weren't selling well at that price, because they were clearanced out earlier this year for $7 - $10. They just resurfaced at Walmart a few weeks ago, but with less articulation. The quality of the clothes seem to be better, though.
DeleteI love the idea of using the Stormtroopers for Halloween. GREAT IDEA!
Never heard of family dollar but I'll check it out! Glad you liked the idea it made me happy to be helpful. ^^
DeleteSorry you missed out on the first wave of Fashion Madness Kenya. $10 is not a bad price for the 2nd wave.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting on the guys or will check soon to see if they are already here.
dbg
DBG - I was on the fence about the first wave. I do like the clothes on this one, so I don't feel slighted at all. I plan to buy a TJ as soon as I find him.
DeleteI love her a hair! Would really like my 1:12 girls to have hair like that!
ReplyDeleteGrandmommy - Her hair is nice. Her big hair helps balance out her huge head.
DeleteCongratulations on your Kenya doll. And on your two Storm Troopers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for contributing to the information about the 2013 Kenya dolls. So they've kept the articulated knees. Good. Pity about the loss in the elbows, but some is better than none. And both prices are the same doll. Okay.
In Philly, you can still find some of the fully articulated Kenyas, but the price is about $15.00 so no big price reduction. (Need to check with Ms. Leo to find out if she's seeing the same thing.)
I agree with Leandra Holland's suggestion that the Storm Troopers would make great figures for a comic convention OR for Halloween. I would add that you can have one or more of your regular characters "become" a Storm Trooper. If you had a Storm Trooper helmet the character can hold that for a "before" photo.
D7ana - I'm going to check a few more Family Dollars to see if the articulated ones are still lingering. I still think the $15 unarticulated one is overpriced. There isn't a big enough difference to warrant the extra $5.
DeleteSo now you want me to buy an extra Stormtrooper helmet? Tsk. Tsk.
Hello from Spain: I really like this doll. The clothes are fabulous. In my country is not on sale this collection. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteMarta - This collection is fairly new and still seems to be in transition. We will have to see how it evolves. The clothes seem to have improved since the first introduction. So I'm happy about that.
DeleteCongratulations, its a godd buy ;)
ReplyDeleteSee you soon!
Ana - Thanks. You know I love my good buys.
DeleteLove that Kenya girl, and the outfit is so cute! And what about a comic con dio to give a go to that pair of stormtroopers?? P.S. I know, I'm a total freak...
ReplyDeleteRossetti - I'm hoping she will fit in with that big head of hers. We shall see. There are many comic con people out there. You are not alone. If I accumulate enough characters, without having to spend a lot of money, maybe a comic con dio will be in my future.
DeleteI bought one of these dolls at my local Toys r us a few months ago. I only wanted her for the body and I paid I think 15.00 for her and her outfit was nicely made. I haven't used her body yet because the skin tone that she was didn't match the one i had in mind. :(
ReplyDeletewilliam - You must have gotten one of the fully articulated ones. Lucky you. Good luck finding a place for her in the future.
DeleteThere has to be something those Storm Troopers can go in! By the way,if you have a Big Lots near you, they have So In Style dolls for $9. They are the really simple ones in just short dresses. I nabbed a Trichelle for my daughter Ivy,even though she has about 6 Trichelle's already.I'm not sure which series these dolls are. There didn't seem to be a series name on the box.
ReplyDeleteTam - I see the Stormtroopers have excited you. I've seen those SIS dolls at Big Lots. No offense, but they are overpriced, there. These same dolls were $7 - $8 at Walmart. I get really irritated when Big Lots is priced higher than Walmart and Target. I just remember the days when they were a discount store, not a retail store. Their fashionista dolls are priced higher, too. The only dolls I buy from Big Lots now, are the PowerTeam guys when I can find them.
DeleteOur Walmart doesn't carry the S.I.S. girls. In fact, they have been almost impossible to find in Ohio period. For a while we found them in the big city, (Columbus), but they even stopped having them in stores there quite a while ago. Ivy wanted the Pastry dolls, especially Trichelle, but they were nowhere. You're so right about Big Lots! Ken and I say the same thing all the time. They used to have some really unusual stuff too, but those days are long gone. Same old stuff at the same prices as everybody else now, or even higher.
DeleteTam - I didn't know they were so scarce in Ohio. Have you ever considered ordering them from Mattel.com? They have excellent prices there. Of course, there's the added cost of shipping, but if you get more than one, it may work out okay.
DeleteI just checked out Mattel.com,which send you to the Barbie site for the S.I.S. dolls. No Trichelle?! Has she been discontinued? She seems to have been replaced by Marisa.Luckily Ivy seldom wants a doll these days. The S.I.S. girls are some of the exceptions.(She also wants a Marilyn Monroe and the curtain dress Scarlett to go with her Barbecue dress Scarlett.)
DeleteTam - There is a new Trichelle set that was recently released. You can see pictures of here on D7ana's blog. http://phillycollector.blogspot.com/2013/08/new-so-in-style-grace-and-trichelle-big.html.
DeleteFor some reason, the new sets are not on the Mattel website. Maybe they will show up there later.
Those are nice shoes. I had to laugh at you having no idea what you are going to do with the storm troopers.
ReplyDeleteKenya - The geek came out in me when I bought those Stormtroopers. They are here in my bed, and I smile every time I see them.
DeleteMaybe you can have one of the families go to Disneyland again. You could put the Storm Troopers by Star Wars: The Adventures Continue.
ReplyDeletesisilovessing - LOL! Disney is a done deal. Thanks for the idea, though. Now, I definitely have to get Lando Calrissian. He can have a reunion of sorts with the Stormtroopers.
DeleteSigo en lo mismo, por aca no venden estas barbies, sera que puedas enviarme una? Hasta pronto, un beso.
