Adele Gets a Dress for Church

Did I tell you guys I am a collector of fabric, too?   This is not a desirable hobby I have.  It is what it is.  I always have these grandiose plans when I am in the store buying fabric.  By the time I get home I've usually moved on to a new project that doesn't involve fabric.  So one of my goals is to cut and sew something, from every piece of fabric I own.  Which brings us to Adele's new church dress.  I'm not sure what I originally had in mind for this fabric, but I loved the print and the colors.  I wasn't planning for this to be a Fashion Royalty dress, but I just love sewing for them.

Not normally her style, but Adele said she can wear it to church.

I'm thinking of making Sydney a coordinating outfit, with the lavender being the main fabric.

Give us one last pose, Adele.

Sometimes I cut corners when I am sewing for my dolls, but not this time.  I made this dress as though I was going to sell it.  The bodice is lined in the lavender fabric.  All the seams are nicely finished.  I even ironed every little piece as I went along.  Patting myself on the back for not being a lazy sewer.

  2. Lovely! Adele wears it well, even though it's not her style. I love that little belt, it suits the dress nicely.

  7. That is another lovely creation! And I like your idea of sewing one item from each piece of fabric. I too am a collector of fabrics, plus I have a mom and an aunt who sew and quilt so I often get goody bags and boxes in the mail and when I visit! I need to get moving on making more things with all my pretties too!
Looking forward to seeing more of what is to come!

    1. DLSarmywife - Thanks. I'm sure you get overwhelmed with fabrics, too. It's so hard not to buy, especially when they are perfectly scaled. I won't allow myself to go buy any more fabrics until I sew more outfits.

  8. Adele's dress is lovely. I am also a fabric collector : ). I plan to make it a goal to make something every month starting in the new year. I only purchase 1/4 yard of fabric and every now and then 1/2 a yard. They are tiny pieces but can really add up especially when JoAnn's, Hancock or other craft stores puts their fancy or expensive fabrics on sale. Looking forward to seeing your other creations.

    1. Georgia Girl - I buy a yard sometimes because inevitably when I only buy a little, I need a little more. I used to want to make things for my home, too. So I have a few bolts of fabric hanging out, too. I am going to donate some to my sister in law, who does incredible things with fabric.

  10. Glad to hear you were not a lazy sewer on this dress (the sewing teacher in me says that's the way it should always be). It's a lovely dress (and Adele models it well) and it will be good to see the coordinating outfit.

    1. Carrickters - I had to work me way back up to linings and finished seams. I had to ease my way back or risk never sewing again. I'm back now, Obi-wan sewing teacher. LOL!

  11. Great design and execution! Next Adele will be wanting a hat since it is a church ensemble.

Remember -- whoever dies with the most fabric wins!

    1. limbe dolls - Thanks! You know I have a whole book on hats that I want to get to. That and handbags are on my list.

Hmmm....I don't think I want to play that dying fabric game. I might just win that one.

  12. Wow, the dress is beautiful!! Great job!
I tried a hand at sewing doll clothes earlier this year...I stuck with sock dresses just because they were easier and more versatile because of the stretch.
I think I've had better luck at making dolly furniture, LOL.

    1. Dolly's World - Thanks! Sewing doll clothes is like everything else. It just takes patience and practice. Then it becomes second nature and you can get creative with it.

    1. Rossetti - Thanks! Adele loves her new dress. I am prone to lazy sewing, too, but I always feel better when the garment is completely finished. I would love to have an assistant just for sewing on snaps. LOL!

  15. Way back before I became a lazy heathen I remember going to church as a kid as seeing ladies wear dresses like these. They all had the big fancy hats too though.

    She looks stunning.

    1. Muff - Thanks. Are you saying she needs a big fancy hat? Those big hats always got in the way of seeing the pulpit, so she may not get one. LOL.

    1. icecloud - Thanks. As for sewing tips, try to find some videos on YouTube done by great sewers or professional sewers. You can learn a lot of shortcuts from the professionals. If you don't mind second hand items, the best place for cheap stuff is your local thrift stores.
