Preparing for the Reception (Photostory)

Like I said, I am back to our regularly scheduled program, which means getting back to the wedding reception.  I was brainstorming how the room would look.  That's typically how my diorama building process goes.  I throw up a quick mock up, based on my first thoughts.  The room never comes together fully until right before I shoot.  No telling what this ballroom will look like by the time I shoot the first video.

"I must say I am very concerned about the progress on this room.  It really needs to be almost finished by now." (Lauren)
"I understand your concern, but the previous group was late getting out this morning, and that is why we are late." (Ron)
"Well can you bring some more people in to help?" (Lauren)
"I've already called in backup.  They should be here any moment." (Ron)

The guys are bringing out the tables.

There is a separate decorating crew.

"How does this look?"  (Janine)
"I like it.  I think we should go ahead and start attaching them to the walls.  We are running out of time."  (Meg)

"So how long before the tables are completely set with chairs and table cloths?" (Lauren)
"I would say we will have that done within the next 30 mins.  The new crew will help with the decorating." (Ron)

"Are those all the tables?" (Andrew)
"I think so.  We can bring the table tops out together.  They are pretty heavy." (Blair)

Meanwhile, Faith has entered the ballroom looking for her mother.

"Faith, what are you doing here?" (Mom)
"Mom, I've been calling you all day!" (Faith)
"I'm so sorry.  I have been so busy, I have not stopped to check any messages.  Again, what are you doing here?  Is something wrong?" (Mom)

"Does there have to be something wrong for me to come see my beautiful mother?"  (Faith)
"How much do you need and what is it for?"  (Mom)
"Mom, I don't always come to hit you up for money." (Faith)
"Oh, no?  When was the last time you came here just to say hello?" (Mom)
"Well....I need to borrow $50." (Faith)

"There she is again." (Andrew)
"Who....the boss' daughter? (Blair)
"Yes.  I have to figure out how to get a date with her." (Andrew)
"Man you are crazy.  Dating the boss' daughter could be a big mistake." (Blair)

"Let's go to my office.  You still haven't told me what it's for?" (Mom)
"Well there's a big concert coming up that me and my friends want to go to and the tickets go on sale in the morning."  (Faith)
"You really need to find a job so you can support all these extra activities you want to do."  (Mom)
"Mom, I have a job." (Faith)
"Well maybe you should think about getting another one, or one that pays better."  (Mom)
"Daddy doesn't want me working too much.  He says it will take away from my studying."  (Faith)
"Well maybe you should be at his job, asking him for $50." (Mom)

P.S.  The doll I named Meg is a recent head purchase from Ebony of BrooklynStarsForever.  It is one of my favorite molds, the Teresa mold.  I named her Meg because she reminds me of one of my college roommates.  The doll I named Janine is one of the 7 Janay dolls I own.  Most are related to Antoinette.  This one is not.  At least not that they know of.  Andrew is the AA playline doll, whose name I am drawing a blank on.  I temporarily rebodied him on a Darren body.  Remember when they were articulated?  His head doesn't stay on the body, so I have to do some tweaking.

  1. Very nice and realistic blog post. I love your table and chairs. Did you make Faith's mom's dress? I like it.

    1. Verona - We are on our way. I have to get the reception done, so I can move on to other stories. Most of my families are tied up at the wedding. You know how young boys are. You can't tell them anything. They have a one track mind.

  3. Next week I am doing a spectacular Royal wedding. The wedding of Queen Gloria of Normadia has been on the card for over a year now. Can't wait to post on it. Have a look over the next week to keep up with the news on that. You have really inspired me with your blog. Tnx!!!

    1. Duke of Swann - Lauren's outfit was made by Gabi-mates. She has an Etsy and Ebay store. This outfit came with a beautiful wool vest, a handmade purse, and a few other items. It is my second purchase from her.

I will definitely stop over next week to check out the wedding.

    1. Lady LoLo - Thanks! I love scenes where I can put more dolls to work. They have to earn their keep.

    1. dbg - Yes things are moving along. We have a little ways to go. Ron didn't tell Lauren about the shortage of chairs.

I really must show Lauren's outfit one day soon. She has on a sweater and a leather like skirt. The outfit with all the pieces is incredibly nice.

Did you happen to see the post I did showing the inside of the miniature house? I know you had expressed an interest in seeing it.

    2. dbg - When you are referring to the dress, are you talking about the orange and pink dress? If so, that is Faith, who is wearing that. Lauren is the mom. That dress came on the doll with the new kitchen I bought from Mattel.

  6. The reception hall looks huge! You certainly know how to work a space. I never realized that the dress Faith is wearing is actually a dress. From the box I always thought it was an apron.

    1. Muff - That's funny you say the reception hall is huge. I was just thinking it's too small for all the people I need to seat. Yes, I imagine it could be used as a hostess outfit too, but I love it as a little dress. The colors look nice on her.

    1. Sergio - They better get cracking on that room. Those guests will be pulling into the parking garage any minute. Faith is the one wearing the little dress. Lauren is the mom.

    1. Matty - Thanks! I am happy to get back to the wedding. We have to get this thing finished! By the way, I now have a digital SLR camera. I won't start using it for the dolls until I learn how.

  9. I love your story and how you get us so close to the characters. I see you have a new camera also. I've been just using the auto settings because the setting intimidated me even though I'm somewhat of a techie. Well, I got tired of everyone having such great close ups and I figured some of it out and voila; great close ups now!

Well, good luck with your camera and I'll see you soon!

    1. BarbieFantasy - Thanks. These pictures were shot with my regular digital camera I bought a little over a year ago. I won't be shooting my stories or videos with the new camera for a long time. At least not until I read the instructions, cover to cover. I did take the time, two nights ago, to read a digital imaging processing book I recently bought. It really helped. These pictures were taken with just the ceiling light. I normally have two to three additional lights, but not this time. I then made the necessary corrections in the photo editing software to get them how I wanted them. I was just testing out my new knowledge. I still have a long way to go, but I don't mind getting there a little at a time.

  10. Hello from Spain: I have the dress Fe is wearing because I have the kitchen also. It looks very nice. I have to do some input with the dress. I love the big wooden table. It is very appropriate. Once again I congratulate you for the great work you do. You know you're an inspiration to me. Keep in touch.

    1. Marta - I love the colors in that dress. They work well for her, the college student. It's a nice and lively little dress. I will look to see it in one of your dioramas soon.
