Today I Beheaded a Monster High Doll

I picked up Clawdeen Wolf last night when I went to Big Lots.  For months now, I have been wondering about using her articulated body for my teenage girl.  Well I finally decided to go for it.

Brianna currently has a non-articulated Mary Kate Olson body.  She hasn't been able to do much since she's had it.  (Debbie, she has been wearing an outfit from the box you sent to me, ever since it arrived.)

Ahhhh.  Articulation.  Granted she looks a little strange with the small neck, but I think once I dress her in some different clothes, and maybe let her hair down, it won't look so strange.  I can deal with it if it means she can move around and be useful to aunt Lisa.  Now she can actually hold the baby.  Nothing like a built in babysitter.

I think she's been consorting with a slightly older young man (17), who is in desperate need of a haircut.  He doesn't know it yet, but I will be cutting that hair one day soon.  Maybe it just needs a little spritzing.

I think I also need to inform him that she is only 14.  I think she's been trying to pass for 16.  Those teenage girls can be a little tricky.

I wanted to compare her to her twin sister.  I didn't realize they had different hair colors.  I think I will go get another body for the twin sister, and use them as twins.

  1. You are too funny Vanessa, but there's a ring of truth to your logic. Yes, he certainly needs to visit his barber...soon! LOL.
Don't forget our giveaway this week! Lov

  2. Loretta - Hello. I admit that I have intentionally not looked at the giveaway because I desparately need to "give tons of stuff away" before I bring anything else in. I do have some people coming by next Monday to take some stuff away. So I am at least starting. I will come to visit soon.

  3. I don't know,... there is something stange about that Monster high body. Spine is a little too curved, fingers a little too spread and it is a little to sexy a look for such a sweet girl like that. There is a body out there for her, I just don't think it is this one.

  4. Ms. Leo - Once she gets dressed in different clothes, I think those things will sort of disappear. We will see. For the time being, this is her new body. I haven't met too many sweet teenage girls, so I wasn't really going for the sweet, innocent teenager. Didn't you see her groovin' on Ian? I had 3 stepdaughters and by the age of 12 they were boy crazy and trying all sorts of crazy things. The oldest was 16 when I got there, but my exhusband had horror stories. Yeah, I don't know anything about innocent teenage girls.

  5. Just a suggestion, maybe when the Rocky Disney VIP doll comes out the body may be a little better. I think there is a little more fat on the Disney VIP dolls than the Monster High Dolls.

  6. Frannie - Thanks, but I would probably be lying to you if I said I was going to spend money on another body for her. These girls have really small neck holes and I barely got it to fit on the Mary Kate body. I doubt that it will fit on the Disney bodies. I will try to camouflage her boniness with new clothes. Teenagers don't get a lot of time in my dolly world, so it's not going to be that big of a deal. I just need her to be able to sit and move and hold things for the little time she does show up.

  7. I like the transplant. I recently got the Clawd Wolf/ Draculara gift set and had been thinking about finding a 1:6 scale teenage boy head to match the Clawd Wolf body. He is not as swaybacked as the Monster High girls and would make a fine young man of 12-14.

I also thought about turning a Claudine or Cleo into a teenage girl. I have a story running around in my head about anorexic dancers...Or maybe if I had a number of Monster High girl bodies I could do a story about a refugee camp...On a less tragic note, the Monster High girl bodies look coltish and awkward like young teen girls.

And speaking of "sweet" teenage girls. My friends who are parents of teenage girls have all had to deal with "sexting" incidents where the girls were posting suggestive photos of themselves on their "My Space" or "Facebook" pages or sending them to boys through their phones. I'm very glad I don't have to deal with that!

  8. Vanessa, you said that many kids view your blog and you felt a sense of responsibility to them. You can be sweet and like boys too. I do think Roxanne's Dolls show that with Calista. I not suggusting you copy her store but keep the tone in mind for the younger viewer. I'm just saying.

I would agree that many things about the body show up in person and not in pictures. That is a struggle for me. For show or for play. How much to spend on for show-others and for play-me.

  9. limbe dolls - I can't wait to see your pending transformations. Sounds very interesting. This body also reminded me of the awkwardness of the teenage body. I put the original doll body in the picture to show that they had very small bodies to begin with.

  10. I never really looked at the Monster High Dolls that close but it looks like to works to me. I have been looking for a body for my Calista and this one might work. As I was reading Ms. Leo comments about the curves and long fingers I started having second thoughts I'll give her a second look. Like you I want her to move and be able to play with her twin brothers!

Hey Vanessa find us a body for Jullian! I also want to tell you I think your sewing is coming along great!!

  11. Ms. Leo - I never said that girls couldn't be sweet and like boys. I said I don't personally know too many sweet, innocent teenage girls. The thing about my blog is that I draw from my real life experiences and the experiences of people I have met along the way. I have no reference point for sweet, innocent, teenage girls. I don't think that I would be irresponsible to portray Brianna as a not-so-innocent young girl. There are many young girls at 14 that may need a little guidance. Perhaps there would be something in my story lines that would help them. I think I would be more irresponsible for pretending that they don't exist. Sort of like the parent who believes if you don't talk about certain subjects everything will just work out for the best. Yes at 8 yrs (Nikaya) and 10 yrs (Nicole and Jessica), I don't think their focus should be on boys. At 14, boys is what a large percentage of girls are thinking about. That is the audience that I would be reaching out to maybe help in some way. I remember what it is like to be a young teenage girl wanting the attention of the opposite sex and doing little things to get their attention. I remember what it is like to have your heart broken and not feel like you could go on. I can still see myself at 12 lying in my bed with a whole bottle of aspirin (that's all I had access to) spilled out next to me thinking if I take all of these maybe Robbie Wigglesworth will be my friend again. Of course, I didn't take them, but I still remember the pain. Sometimes parents tend to forget what it's like to be a teenager. They just want their kids to be perfect, even when they know they weren't perfect. When it comes to teenagers, any stories I do, will deal with the realities of being a teenager. Yes there are sweet innocent ones out there. We will let Roxanne handle those. I have more experience to deal with the not so innocent ones.

  13. I was going to use one of the monster high bodies in my story but i decided not to do it the same reason i dont like using fashion royalty dolls because the bodies are totally different.
I like to keep my blog as real as possible also. It actually has helped me with everyday life challenges. I love doll stories to be as real and down to earth as possible!

  14. brini - I wish I could find bodies for all my SIS kids. We'll all have to keep our eyes peeled. Maybe something new will show up.

    DBG - LOL!

william - Blogging can definitely be an outlet of sorts. Thanks for keeping it real with all those hunks you have over there.

  15. Vanessa, I just got back from Wal-Mart and they had the Bratz Rock dolls for 50% off. They are also articulated. Maybe someone would like to try and use one of their bodies for a teenager. As you said we all have to keep our eyes peeled for other bodies doll collectors could use.

  16. Frannie - Thanks for the info. I need to look them up on line. You know me, I will try just about anything in the name of articulation, even swaybacks. LOLOL!

  17. Hello from Spain: I did not know that the body of a doll mosters served to a Barbie doll type. The Brianna looks good. I see you have so many dolls. How do you remember their names and family you belong to? I saw that you made some baby clothes Krrisy. I find it very difficult because it is all very small. It is good news is that almost does not need fabric. I saw an entry of Aug. 12 you have the baby sister to cradle and chair and baby. In Spain, just brought to the stores by the Christmas season. Just bring the white and I'm hesitant to buy it. I hate Barbie because in the back has a hook to move her arms but the baby and accessories worth me to recreate scenes. The baby is not as handsome as Krrissy but stores no longer sell Krissy. I love clothes and left for Zahara is beautiful together. We remain in contact blog blog

  18. I like Liv bodies for teens ... if the teen needs an articulated body. Or a SAJ body. The Monster High doll bodies give a different look though. I want to feed them cake and fried chicken and fattening stuff. I think, fatten them up. (And no, I am NOT a witch, lol.)

I look forward to seeing the body you use for the other sister.

    Thanks for sharing.

  19. Marta - Thanks. We do a lot of body swapping over here. I don't always remember all the names, but all the names are somewhere in my blog, so if I forget, I just refer to the character list. Yes, the doll in the baby set is not great for adult collectors. I think it is great for little girls to play with. I have the Caucauain set too, but it is unopened. You definitely need to buy this set. The pieces are wonderful. I think this will be one of those sets that could sell for a lot of money a few years from now. The baby isn't as cute as Krissy, but I think you will fall in love with her if you buy her.

  20. D7ana - The heads for these dolls will not fit on LIV bodies. The hole is really small, very similar to the hole in the MH head. That is why the choices are even more limited.

  21. Hello again from Spain: tiny fluid communication so we have to blog to blog. The truth is you're right that the baby crib and high chair are great and although the girls Barbie is more than the baby is more difficult to achieve. I had not thought that the price would rise over time but I have that model on my list of future purchases. This week I buy a new Fashionista discount because they are already in December and I'll take the baby set. Keep in touch. Now I look forward to your new update

  22. I didn't mean to negate your experiences with teens. I only wanted kids to have a positive experience. Kids today do so many things without a parent’s explanation or input. It is hard to get positive messages to them.

  23. Ms. Leo - My intent is always to help, not harm. The pressures are many for teenage girls, and some parents don't tell them anything. Many young girls have sexy bodies and are being approached by older boys and men because of their bodies. Not a lot of people are telling them how to handle this. Personally, this body didn't scream sexy to me and still doesn't. I worry more about the young girls with the big butt, the hips, and the large breast. Those are the problematic bodies to me. Not the skinny girls. If I were to do teenage stories, I would approach it in a realistic manner in what is actually happening on a daily basis and actually have their doll parents discussing these issues with the teens the way parents should be doing. That may help some teen out there somehow.

Earlier this year one of my nieces announced to her parents that she was pregnant. She is 14 yrs old. One of my stepdaughters gave birth twice before the age of 18. And it wasn't about making a mistake (in these two cases), because I think in both cases they were planned. There were deeper issues. Yes, you want to show positive images, but you want to give them tools to deal with reality. They need more and if I go down that road (which I probably won't for some time) I don't want to be another adult that just says do the right thing. One of the most used techniques in teaching is role playing. That is what I would want to do.

  24. Today I received the message below on YouTube. I get messages like this regularly about being too old for Barbies. Most of the young teenagers, who are still playing with dolls, are more into LIV, Bratz, and Monster High dolls. They notice and comment when I use accessories from these other lines. I think my new teen with the MH body will resonate well with the young teens out there. It's a great way for me to grab their attention.

    Here's the message:
I'm 13 and I feel to old to like barbies... :( I just got the newest monster dolls... Do u like those? I just like the plain old barbies though... I would love to learn how you make these vids.... Very entertaining...

  25. Are you selling the Mary Kate Olson body

    ReplyDelete
  26. lildolls - No, the body went back to the mary kate head.

  27. lildolls - That is on my list of things to do. I hope to start that process in the next few months. Ir will be announced here on my blog when it happens.

  28. Will Mary Kate come to Morristown

  29. lildolls - At some point and time a lot of teens will enter Morristown. There is a chance the Olson twins will too.

  30. can I use some of your pics for my doll town

    ReplyDelete
  31. lildolls - I have to say no to using my pictures. I like to encourage people to explore their own creativity. Using my pictures would say nothing about you and that's what you want people to know about.
