Look what showed up in my email this morning. How ironic. I thought I would share it with you, in case anyone else has sleeping issues. There is a link to the article at the bottom. Spark People is a site that I discovered about 8 months ago. It is primarily a site that helps you focus on your health. It has a food tracking system, wonderful articles, recipes, and a great support system. I don't frequent the site like I used to, but I signed up to receive daily emails on certain topics, sleep being one of them. Another one being high blood pressure. Last year I had high blood pressure as a result of my illness. I was on several high blood pressure meds until I decided to take myself off of them, once my illness was under control. My blood pressure was back to normal until many months later it shot up again, almost over night. I was about to concede to my doctor's request to go back on medicine. The next week (I kid you not), a Spark People email came that talked about lowering high blood pressure. The first thing they talked about was "baking soda" and how high the sodium count was. Ding ding ding! I had just recently started brushing my teeth with baking soda, because it is a natural whitener. I immediately stopped using it, and my blood pressure returned to normal within a week. Can you believe that? We always used baking soda to whiten our teeth growing up. My blood pressure now hovers aound 99/68. That my friends is better than normal! Thanks Spark People. Had that article not shown up, I would probably be taking a blood pressure pill.
Thanks for the website. It's a great reference for keeping your body healthy. Need to see if they have a list of foods to keep your magnesium levels up. (It's one of the side effects of the medicine I am on, haven't had a major problem yet, but it is good to be on top of it)
ReplyDeleteFrannie - There is so much information on that site, a person could get lost. My new favorite recipe from there is Tofu Chocolate Cake. I am not big on sweets, but occassionally, I like to have a little something. For the tofu cake, you just take a regular box of mix and add a regular size package of silky (soft)tofu. Nothing else. No eggs, no oil. I usually make muffins. They are so light and fluffy. Still not terribly good for you, I imagine, so I don't indulge often, but much better than the other version.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that link. It has tools that are easy to use all in one place. I have already shared it with my husband and plan to hook my son up when his laptop arrives in two days.
ReplyDeleteValerie - I am so happy that you checked it out and found it useful. I was amazed at how much information was there. When I found it, I wanted to share it with all my friends and family. Of course, they weren't very interested.
ReplyDeleteI need your spark-name to give you credit. I am richila there.
ReplyDeleteValerie - I think I am vanessamorrison there. I haven't logged in for a little while now. I get about 3 emails from them per day. So I read the articles without logging in. I started back exercising about 3-5 times per week. I need to start logging it so I can get some Spark Points!
