Nicole's After Dinner Surprise (Photostory)

After Christmas dinner, most of the family retired to the living room to relax before having dessert.  Danielle decided this was the perfect time to show Nicole her new bedroom.  Nicole had no idea she was finally getting her own bedroom.  Danielle led her to the closed door on the third level, then covered her eyes.

"Are you ready?"  (Danielle)
"YES!"  (Nicole)
"Ta da!"  (Danielle, removing her hands from Nicole's eyes)

"So what do you think?"  (Danielle)
"Is this my room?"  (Nicole)
"Yes, it is.  I had them install the wallpaper you and I picked out months ago.  I left plenty for us to decorate together."  (Danielle)
"I love it."  (Nicole)

Nicole walks in to get a better look.
"We will have to buy you some new desk accessories.  And there is plenty of room for your school books."  (Danielle)
"Now I can't wait to go back to school and get some homework so I can work at my new desk."  (Nicole)
"Now that's a first....you wanting homework."  (Danielle)

Nicole moves over to the corner with the beanbag chair.
"I love the horse pictures."  (Nicole)
"I knew you would.  Behind you on the shelf is a place for your games, DVDs and the tv, which is only allowed to be on during the weekend."  (Danielle)

"We will have to pick up a few more board games.  That's always a good way to spend family time."  (Danielle)

Nicole moves to the last area, the bed.
"Awww.  It's so soft."  (Nicole)"
"Maybe tomorrow we can get online and try to find a comforter, some curtains and a throw rug."  (Danielle)

"Okay.  I really like my room.  Thank you for putting it together."  (Nicole)

"You're welcome.  Your dad and I want you to feel at home here.  So now you have your own personal space.  And when you aren't here, I'll make sure the boys stay out."  (Danielle)
"Did Julian see my room, yet?"  (Nicole)
"No.  You can give him the tour.  He'll probably be upset that you have a tv and he doesn't." (Danielle)

"Speaking of Julian, he's probably wondering where we are.  Are you ready for some dessert?"  (Danielle)
"No, I'm still full from dinner.  Can I stay here?"  (Nicole)
"Sure.  Come downstairs when you're ready."  (Danielle)

Danielle leaves and Nicole takes another look around her new room and smiles.

  1. Super cute room! I love the CD shelf and the Princess sign!
Does Nicole collect Breyer horses? If she wants some, look for Mini Whinnies. They're so cute! I have a few for my doll kids and they love them!

  3. Nicole's room is lovely. I'm sure it will make her feel like she's truly at home. Good for her. Poor Julian will be jealous about that tv, but he gets to sleep in a really cool car bed.

    1. Jaye - Thanks. She is so happy. Now she doesn't feel like an outsider. Danielle will probably hear about that tv from Julian. She already has an answer for him.

  4. So glad Danielle made Nicole feel at home with her own room. When my dad and his 2nd wife bought a new house there was not a bedroom or even a bed for me. Each of her daughters got their own rooms. If memory serves the extra bedroom may have been used as a office. But was later converted into a bedroom when the oldest daughter became with child. I was never treated the same. Danielle seems to be a good step mother.

    1. AG Lanc - Wow, that is so sad! I'm sorry you went through that. There are some really bad stepmoms out there. I tried to make sure I was one of the good ones. Every child that has been in my life for any period of time, were treated as though they were my own. My brother is the same way. He is a great stepdad. Danielle definitely wants Nicole to feel like this is her house, too.

  5. Nicole's room is lovely! Danielle is such a sweetheart. That is very sweet of her to do this for Nichole. Rod is a great father to the boys as well. Great photo story!

    1. Georgia Girl - Thanks. I had a similar experience with my boyfriend's daughter. It was already her room, but I was taking interior design classes at the time and gifted her a room makeover. She and I painted the room together with a color she chose. We had a lot of fun. I remember turning her bed into a daybed with lots of beautiful designer pillows. She was 12 at the time. She's now 23 and we still keep in contact. She told me two years ago, in a six-page letter, that she always considered me her second mom. I was so touched and thankful.

  6. Good for Nichole. It's always great to have a place to call your own. I sure wish Rod and Danielle could get custody of Nichole instead of her whacky mother. Looking forward....

  8. Nicole's room is adorable! Now she has her own space whenever she comes over. I'm still hoping Rod and Danielle get full custody of her. I think she'd be much happier with them than her silly mother! :-)

    1. Cindi - Thanks. Life would be so much better if Rod and Melanie could come together and figure out how best to help Nicole have the best possible childhood, under the circumstances. Just seeing her parents on the same page could make a big difference in her life. I don't foresee that happening, but I'm putting it in the universe anyway.

  9. So happy she has her own space and you can see she appreciates it too. I just hope her mother doesn't blow her top, lol.

    1. Brini - Hmmm, seems like you may have a little experience with this topic. You would think her mother would be appreciative that her daughter was shown so much consideration and love. That's not always the case. It wasn't the case when I redid my boyfriend's daughter's room. Her mom did get jealous over the whole thing and lashed out. Chances are Nicole won't even share the news with her. She has enough experience with her mom to know what the reaction might be. Kids aren't stupid and they go into protective mode when necessary.

  10. The room is lovely, but all I could focus on was the "TV on only on weekends." OMG I would have freaked as a kid! No Brady Bunch? No Giliigan's Island? That's torture! Not even Zoom or The Electric Company?! Nah, son. I would have been out. I ran away plenty of times for ridiculous reasons. But no TV? I would have called the cops.

    1. Muff - That's only the tv in her room. She might have access to a little tv in the family room. When I met my husband, his 5 kids didn't watch tv at all. They did have dvd movies they watched as a family. They were perfectly fine. You sound like you were a hand full. I probably would have packed your bags for you. Lol!

  11. Danielle and Rod are super parents. I love seeing them with their kids. Good to see Nicole has a room int their home. I like how Danielle consulted her and added touches that she (Danielle) thought Nicole would appreciate.

Aside: I used to watch Zoom and can still sing their songs. Zoom-a, zoom-a, zoom-a .... But Gene London was my favorite.

    1. D7ana - Thanks. Yes it was critical for her to get her own room. These gestures go a long way to a child feeling loved and wanted.

I know nothing about Zoom. I need to look that up.
