"Oh No She Didn't"!

Finding a dolly online husband is a little like online dating in real life.   It might look perfect for you on that computer, but getting together can be a whole different story.  My Kaustik guy arrived a couple days ago, and he is even better in person.  Unfortunately, he and Dasia did not mesh.  However, he and Roberta immediately latched on to each other.  Apparently, they were kind of seeing each other when she was in Florida.  There will be a story soon to give more details about that.

"I can't believe that heifer stole my husband.  Let me get a little closer."  (Dasia)

"Dang, and he's fine.  Look at that body."  (Dasia)

Yes, look at that body.  And guess what?  His chest is soft and pliable.  Perfect for dolly squeezing.  Roberta is going to have a great time with this one.

I'm sorry he didn't work out for Dasia, but I'm very happy that Roberta has a man.

One reason why Dasia and the new guy didn't work out is because of the difference in their head sizes.  Dasia has a fairly big head, and I don't think a regular action figure guy is going to work with her.  So I hopped on line to see if I could find an older looking Starting Line Up sports figure.  They have relatively big heads, too.

The only guy I could find that looked old enough, was this guy.  I thought he might work with a few adjustments.  In real life this player, Mike Messier, is white, but they gave his figure a serious tan, so I thought he could pass for a light skinned black guy.  I love the outfits these guys come in.  There's one major problem.  I can't seem to get his gloves off, which tells me,he probably doesn't have any hands.  I was able to remove the nice skates and he does have feet.

So here he is with Dasia.  They have comparable head sizes, which is good.  I will have to give him a new body, and I may paint him a slight darker shade to give him a little more color.  All in all, I think this match will eventually grow on me.

  2. LOL Vanessa, too bad for Dasia, but in fact I think that the guy is the one should be sorry, as she's too sexy. Anyway, I like her new husband (she's a fast girl!)
You know what? I've just ordered some action figures to match my single girls, now I'll have to start a whole new collection of clothes for Coomodel tall standard body! LOL
And you and your handsome guys are responsible in part for this!
Can't wait to read about the story about Dasia's first husband.

    1. billa's dolls - I had to hurry and find her a new man quick. I couldn't do a story of her losing her man and not having a replacement. That would have been mean. I'm happy to hear you are delving into the action figure world. Once you get the hang of matching heads and bodies, the world just opens up. Looking forward to seeing the new outfits you will create.

  3. Heh, I was going to say "Poor Dasia", but she's looking pleased in that last photo, so I think I don't need to! ;)

Anyway, always love seeing how different dolls and figures go together (or not, as the case may be).

  5. I think the second guy works alot better for Dasia anyway. And of course you could always leave hm the colour he is. Otherwise I've heard you can use Rit dye. I've seen vintage Barbie's and Skippers customized as African American with Rit.

    1. Tam - In person the new guy does work better for her. I have quite a bit of experience painting dolls although I just don't do it much anymore. I would just a light color wash with acrylics and build up until I got the color I wanted. Then I would seal it with a matte sealer.

    2. I've done some blushing with watered down acrylics, but doing a whole overall colour would scare me to death. I have a few mod era Barbies that could use a recolour.(They have paled out or gone a little yellowy.) Do you think it would work for that? Other than that I have heard you use artists markers, which I think I have the potential to really mess up with!

  6. Very funny story. I think you should leave Dasia's new man the color he is. We come in all colors and I think his features scream African American. Hope you're able to get the gloves off.

    1. KMQ - I may leave her new man as is. We will see. My mom is dark skinned and my dad was "high yellow" as they used to say, so seeing this couple kind of reminds me of them. I had just envisioned her with someone with a little more color.

  7. I actually like her better with this guy. So that is perfect that she and Roberta get a beau.

  9. Head size is often a problem when you are trying to make a family with a fashion doll and an action figure. Are you sure there are no older looking AA guys with normal hands in Starting LineUp line? It seems to me some of them like Terrell Davis or Jerry Rice look old enough. Though I'm not sure it's possible to buy any of these figures right now. OK, this guy is also not bad, but those gloves... Non-removable gloves of some action figures are always a big problem for me.

    1. Dukasha - I've been lucky for the most part with my other fashion dolls and action figures. Most of my ladies are paired with action figures, and head size hasn't been a problem. Dasia's head size complements her curve. I also bought a Troy Aikman/Emmitt Smith set, which came yesterday. The Emmitt Smith might work, but the new guy is growing on me. I will try to work around the whole glove issue with a new body. I have a large supply of bodies here. If I can't, then I will find her a new man. There is a Jerry Rice figure available, but he has black paint under his eyes, which might or might not be removable. I just checked and found a Terrell Davis figure for $30, so I bought him because you can't beat that price. He's selling on ebay for $87. Not sure if I will pair him up with Dasia because I think he looks too young, but the other ladies will be happy to have him in town.

  10. Oooo! I never thought I'd see Roberta steal a man. And Dasia was all dolled up for her man. I guess all is fair in love and war.

Well, at least Dasia has a man. If I hadn't read he is White, I wouldn't have known. I thought he was just light-skinned. I hope you can find a suitable body. I hate non-removable clothes. Finding men of color is a little hard, at least from what I've seen. But you've done it. I like the choices you've made for these women.

    1. Janainah - All is fair and love and war. Yes, they gave this guy a lot of color. If you look up the real guy on line, he doesn't look like this at all. This is the first Starting Line Up guy I've purchased who had something that wasn't removable. Everyone else could be stripped naked. So I was quite surprised. I'm going to slit the gloves to see if he even have hands. If not, new body time.

  11. The head sizes are a real problem but his matches, I agree. Skin tones are a problem. On one of the action figure boards, the Trenches, they had a tutorial on how to air brush the heads lightly . It was on one of the war boards and the guys were complaining about the skin tones not matching the bodies. I have thought of getting an airbrush kit to do this on one of my own bodies I needed a little darker that didn't match a head I had and mixing the paint. The kits can be found at hobby lobby or Harbor Freight, I haven't experimented with it yet but there are some really high end sculptors in 1:6 who do air brush on both the bodies and heads to achieve the skin colors.

    1. Lisa - I'm not a stickler about the head color and the body color being a little off in color. Probably because in real life our bodies are usually lighter or darker than our faces. I just wanted to potentially give him a tad more color, but that is still up in the air. I've had an airbrush set since 2004ish. I was certified in antique doll repair, so that was part of our training. I also dated an airbrush artist for a couple of years. The things he could do with his airbrush was amazing. I'm still a novice, but it's a nice tool to have.

  13. Check out Ms. Roberta! So true that one can never tell if a match will work out or not. I've had 4 husband/wife or girlfriend/boyfriend matches that didn't work and at least that many mother/child matches that didn't work.

    1. Teva - That's funny. Technically since she never got a chance to be with the other guy, there wasn't any time needed to get over him. Roberta scarfed him up before Dasia could even get close to him.

  15. Tsk, Tsk, wasn't Dasia just over Roberta's house having tea? Who knew she'd snatch up her man....LOL. Has Danielle and her son met him yet? He's more muscular than Rod. I really like this face mold I have him too.

    1. AG Lanc - Lol. I wonder if Dasia will accept the next tea invite. No one knows about Roberta's man, so it should be interesting. I think Danielle will be happy for her mom. I wonder how Ian will fill. You know those sons get protective.

  16. If Roberta didn't know Mr. Kaustik was married, she ain't a hubby-stealer.

(Just sayin' cause I don't see Danielle's momma as a hubby-stealing heifer. I could be wrong, but I may be right - channeling a little Mick Jagger there, lol.)

I look forward to seeing that story unfold ;-)

  17. Sometime the dolls "know" who they look good with and in this case Roberta didn't hesitate. I like the Kaustik guy and I would love to see him here in Dotsville. So yeah, he is on a wish list. I like Dasia with Mike Messier, it's a good match.

  18. LOL, go Roberta! I think the light skinned pass for white dude makes Dasia look younger. It's a good match.
