The newest Mattel baby playset, albeit too pink, has some really nice pieces. This set retails for $24.99. More than I wanted to pay. I would have paid it eventually, if I wasn't able to find it cheaper. Luckily, while browsing on Walmart.com, I ran across this set for $17.99. That's a little less than 30% off. I can live with that. The beauty of Walmart.com is the Ship-to-Store feature. Most of the time, you can have any item shipped to your local store for pickup at no additional cost to you. That makes it much easier to get items that aren't normally stocked at your store. Another option is shipping directly to your home. If you order $49 or more, shipping to your home is free. This came in real handy last year when I was recuperating from my surgery. All the essentials I needed, like dog food, toilet paper, and the occasional doll item was delivered to my front door.
The crib and the changing table will be painted. Maybe I will try to give them an antique look. The doll has a cute outfit, that I will keep, but the doll is already set for the donate pile.
That was a good deal!

jSarie - I love a good deal. And I love the baby stuff. I'm a little surprised they made this set so pink, considering how modern the last big baby set looked.

ReplyDeletePhyllis - I think the online shopping is causing some of our local big box stores to close their doors. We've lost a Target and a TRUs lately. Kind of a double edge sword, because I like browsing in the stores, too.

DeleteI contemplated this set a few weeks ago while browsing on Walmart.com. The $17 price tag was much more reasonable than what I'd seen previously. One of the Big 3 was actually selling it for $29.99 when I first saw it last summer...puh-lease! I had a feeling you'd be adding this to your collection. We all know how you love the little ones.

ReplyDeleteLeandra - I normally use Krylon or American Accents Ultra 2X Cover spray paint. It is the easiest spray paint for me to use and it works on plastic and other surfaces. I then use a Krylon spray matte sealer to seal the paint.
DeleteThat is a very pink set. I look forward to seeing it repainted and in one of your stories. As an aside, I wish Mattel would just sell the sets without the extra doll (and reduce the price). I'm sure most buyers already have doll and really only buy them for the furniture.
ReplyDeleteCarrickters - Yes, they went overboard with the pink on this set. I'm glad they added a contrasting color on the highchair. I may leave the chair as is. I agree about taking the adult doll out of the set. Or at the very least add an articulated doll who's body could be repurposed.
