Twas The Night Before Christmas... (Photostory)

...at the Taylor house.  Danielle and her mom were able to get some gifts wrapped and under the tree.

Melanie dutifully dropped Nicole off to spend Christmas with Rod.  Now everyone is in their pjs and getting ready to watch a Christmas movie.

Rod and Roberta are conversating in the living room.

Nicole and the boys are having an interesting conversation.

Danielle is making hot chocolate and popcorn.  (One of my favorite snack combos)

The hot chocolate will be put in the thermos to stay warm throughout the movie.

The popcorn bowl and the mugs are ready.

"So what do you want Santa Claus to bring you?"  (Nicole)

"Can you tell Santa he needs some new cars?"  (Julian)
"I can't talk to Santa.  I'm just a kid."  (Nicole)

Danielle has transferred the popcorn to the bowl.

"Nicole, can you come get the popcorn and sit it on the ottoman?"  (Danielle)

"Coming."  (Nicole)

"Be careful  Do you have it?"  (Danielle)
"Yes.  It's not heavy."  (Nicole)

"Da-ad...you have to move your feet."  (Nicole)
"Why?  Feet go really nicely with popcorn." (Rod)
"No it doesn't!"  (Nicole)

"What?  You've never heard of popcorn with feet?  It's similar to popcorn with butter."  (Rod)
"No, it's not."  (Nicole)

"How you doing in there, honey? The movie is going to start soon."  (Rod)
"Almost done."  (Danielle)

"Oh, you want to sit with granny."  (Roberta)

"Who wants hot chocolate and who wants juice?"  (Danielle)
"Can I have both?"  (Rod)
"No, you have to chose.  I only brought six cups."  (Danielle)

"Mom, I have your popcorn coming."  (Danielle)
"Is it nice and buttery?"  (Roberta)
"Just like you like it."  (Danielle)

Everyone is settled in and the movie is about to start.

It's a classic, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

"Why are you hogging the popcorn?"  (Rod)
"Oops, sorry."  (Nicole)

A wonderful night with the family.  Rod and Danielle are hoping this movie will tire out the kids, so they sleep through the night.  There's still a lot of gift wrapping left to do.  In case you are wondering, that is real air popped popcorn.  It was my personal afternoon snack.

  1. Everyone looks so cozy. Love the Christmas tree, it looks so realistic. One of the best things about photo stories is that holidays can happen whenever you want them. ;-) I'm proud of Melanie. She seems to be handling things with Rod and Danielle better now. I guess that Lawrence has something to do with the change.

    Great story.

    1. Tracy - That is definitely a great thing about doll stories. I missed out on doing a Christmas story last year, so I wanted to do a little something this year. Girl, you know the joint custody decree dictated that this year Nicole got to spend Christmas with Rod. Last year he had her for Thanksgiving. Melanie's doing better, but she's not completely there yet. She and Lawrence didn't last very long. Last I saw Lawrence, he was trying to push up on his ex again.

  3. Oh, thanks for this photo story, Vanessa. It reminded me of those Christmas Eves when we were kids and there's always a Christmas movie in every TV channel available and we get to choose which one to watch between Christmas dinner and "Simbang Gabi", or midnight mass - a Filipino tradition wherein the entire family hears the midnight mass at the church, waiting for Dec 25 :) Thanks for making me remember those beautiful memories :)

  4. LOL, and I was just about to ask if you made the popcorn and was going to selling it in your Etsy. I remember making air popped or jiffy popcorn when I was a kid because microwaves didn't exist.

Great seeing the family just chilling.

    1. Muff - I make air popped popcorn at least 3 times a week. Sometimes more. I've been known to eat it for dinner quite often. I can't stand microwave popcorn. I would have made doll popcorn, but heck, the real thing was so much faster.

  5. Cindi - Yes, Christmas eve is the best. It's the last moment you get to enjoy the anticipation of it all.

  6. Shasha - You are so welcome. I'm glad I could bring back such fond memories.. When I was married with stepkids, we always watched the Grinch. It was my ex-husband's favorite Christmas movie.

  7. This is a very cute story, Vanessa. LOL@ popcorn with feet. I don't know if the movie will tire them out - the hot chocolate might have the opposite effect. The Grinch is one of my favorites. I love the photos and all the little details.

    1. Roxanne - Hot chocolate keeps you up? It soothes me and helps me rest. I sure hope it doesn't keep those kids awake.

  8. That's a good way to spend Christmas Eve. It may tire the kids out but I'm sure they will still be up early on Christmas Day.

  9. Such a cute story!! It almost like the way me and my son spend Christmas, except with cookies and cake. We caught up on all our shows.

  11. Love seeing Rod and Danielle and the kids, yay. Love the popcorn and hot chocolate meal - my Mom used to make us hot chocolate and either popcorn or grilled cheese sandwiches - yum! Like Muff, I remember the Jiffy Pop stove top popcorn although usually, my Mom made it in a big pot with a lid; the Jiffy Pop was a little more expensive. Or we'd have cookies with eggnog on Christmas Eve ...

I like how the tv shows the part where the Grinch describes his dastardly plans to his poor, wee dog, lol.

Thanks for sharing this fun Christmas story.

    1. D7ana - Girl do you know I have been getting down on grilled cheese sandwiches lately. I'm not even sure why. My mom's fave to serve was grilled cheese and tomato soup. Yummy. We never got Jiffy Pop. We just used a big pot. Still do, today.

  14. Hello from Spain: I, too, really like eating popcorn. The bowl of your dolls is very real. I like the family plan to eat popcorn and watch a movie with the kids. Nice pictures. I like the Christmas tree. Happy New Year.

  16. Carrickters - Speaking of being up early on Christmas day....the puppies were running around like crazy around 5am Christmas morn. I felt like I had little kids of my own. They must have known that was the day to awake very early.

  17. william - Thanks. I still have yet to do Christmas like I really want to for my dolls. It just seems to come so quickly. I barely have time to do anything. Maybe Melanie was feeling in the spirit. I don't know. The Nicole visit was court ordered, so I don't think we can judge by that. Let's hope she had a great day.

  18. Chynadoll - I love popcorn, too. Good thing it can be healthy when prepared right, else I would be in trouble. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the hubby.

  24. The Grinch that Stole Christmas is one of my all time faves next to Charlie Brown's Christmas. Hot chocolate & popcorn...Yum! So, sorry I'm reading this now after I have committed to a healthier me routine for the New Year. Sigh...on to the next post. No good food please...lol.

  25. Sonya - Popcorn is a healthy snack as long as you pop it yourself. None of that microwave stuff. lol. I think I will go make some right now.

  26. Popcorn & Hot Chocolate at the same time? Interesting. I do like raisinettes IN my popcorn. One might think that's strange. Love the Christmas story.

    1. Kenya - Popcorn and hot chocolate sounds strange to you? I guess I've had it so long, it seems really normal to me. I don't even remember what raisinettes taste like.
