Review of the Gloria Office Set

So I finally got one of the Gloria office desks.  They have two versions.  The one pictured below and a home office version.  If you aren't familiar with Gloria playsets, they come disassembled and most of them are pink.  They look quite nice when painted.  This set will be painted hopefully next week, but I wanted to show you the before pictures.  Mine didn't come with instructions, and it took a little patience to get it together correctly.  The only thing I wasn't completely happy about was the way the desk drawers fit in the desk.

For the most part this is the whole set.  It does come with a few stickers and a cardboard insert for the computer.  After I paint it I will add those.  I think I want to get a couple more of these desks.  Then I would be able to set up a really nice office.

Karla, Tori's mom, is demonstrating today.

The copier is so cool.  It will be painted a very light grey.

All four of the desks open, but like I said they don't fit as well as I'd like them to.

The possibilities will be endless.  I added in my recent thrift store find.

On the other side of the wall is the other desk I bought last year.  So this could be the boss' office.  I hope to have a story next week after all these pieces are painted.  I think Karla will be the first to get the big office.

Gloria playsets can be found on ebay.  There are several sellers.  My favorite is fortunetoys.  They offer combined, reasonable shipping charges.  But check out the other sellers, too.

  1. Hi Vanessa. I love Gloria playsets. I've wanted this one for awhile but they're always so many things I want....sigh. Anyway, I'm glad you got it. I love your stories. I need a basement too. I love setting up dioramas and hate taking them down. I don't know how good is be at telling stories, but if I had room to set up permanent dioramas , I'd definitely give it a try. You inspire me! :)

    1. veda - I bought about 3 of them many years ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't great at painting the sets back then and it discouraged me from getting more. I need to clear out more things in the basement, so I can put up more dios. No matter how much space you have, you always want more. I have to make space for this permanent office, but it will come in handy when I start the Day in the Life series.

  2. Oh, that copier is the best. The other set has a desktop printer instead, but I think I prefer this one. The pen stand is really cute too. Are the pens removable or just for show? I've been looking at fortunetoys but their intl. shipping is pretty expensive. :(

    1. Anderson's All Purpose - The copier is my main reason for getting this set. I forgot to point out the cute pencil holder. The pens are removable. I have better pens to put in there.

  3. The desk is really nice and the copier is too neat, it's going to look awesome in the grey. Nice thrift find, by the way.

    1. adrian - It's better than I expected it to be. The good thing about the Gloria sets is that you get a lot in each playset.

  4. Very nice! I've wanted this set...FOREVER but just like Veda said, I want so many things, LOL. I will eventually get this set and the other version too. There is also a seller, I think the seller name is bobaprincess (who I believe is another part of fortunetoys) is another seller with the same price point. There is also a Gloria Computer Room now, which is a knock off of Barbie Computer Center. I plan on making a call center eventually and it would be great for that. I have heard the height isn't the best on these sets and I think Emelia on flickr added blocks on the bottom for height. I think they're great and like you said, the price point is really nice so I will definitely be purchasing these.

    Great review! :)

    1. Tracy - Thanks for the additional info. You are right, bobaprincess is the same company as fortunetoys. It's best to check both of them because sometimes the prices are a little different. Yes, I like that computer center. It's on my list, but I plan to use parts of it in the school.

    1. Muff - I don't think they are sold in the states. The main ebay seller lives in CA, but I think she's getting them from overseas. I'm not 100% sure of that.

  10. Gloria playsets are new to me too and not sold here in Australia so thanks for the info and link. They do look good and will look great when they are painted. It looks like a very professional office.

    1. Carrickters - Gloria playsets aren't sold in the stores here either. Shipping prices used to be an issue with these sets, but with the continual price increases at our post offices, the shipping costs are now in line with the price increases.

  11. These playsets are the bomb. Tracey India is correct, I was going to post that here too- Em'lia on Flicker has used small blocks painted the same color as the desk- I think she did her office furniture in white. If you go to her flicker albums, look under dioramas.

I have always wanted to do an office scene, my problem in my doll room is space as well. I like how you have your scene set up, looking forward to seeing it when you're done!

  12. I recently placed an order with Bobaprincess/ Fortune Toys. They are currently having a special deal on shipping. If you order 10 Gloria play sets the shipping is only $30. If you order 15 or more the shipping is free. Now you know what I did with my income tax refund. :-)

  13. Nice office! Gloria has many versions of the same room. I have a Gloria office set and it looks nothing like yours. I have purchased a few sets from fortune toys they ship really fast. The sets definately come to life when you paint them so I cant wait to see what you do with it.

  14. Nice set! The desk is more modern looking than the one I built years ago. I may have to build another one. LOL I have the Gloria set that consists of wine bottles, glasses and a cabinet. I didn't use the cabinet for Casey's, but the bottles and glasses came in handy. Perfect size for Barbie. :-)

    1. Cindi - I purchased a separate glass and dish set a couple years ago. They are perfect for Barbie. The Gloria bar I have was purchased without glasses and bottles for $2.

  15. Congratulations on getting the copier set, Vanessa! I have some of the Gloria playsets. They were not sold on the East Coast - to my knowledge. But some of the budget doll furniture sets sold at Big Lots and years ago at KB Toys resemble Gloria sets. Shrug.
