More Articulated Dolls and Playsets

I'm in the midst of doing a new story that takes place at The Den.  The diorama is all set up, but all the guests need to be dressed.  It may show up later today or at the latest, tomorrow.  In the meantime, I wanted to share a few articulated dolls and rare playsets I found on www.target.com.  All images below are property of Target.com.

First up are the Winx dolls.  I've seen them in the stores, but I had only seen a few different ones.  They are smaller body dolls and I think perfect for teenagers or teenage rebodies..  They are fully articulated in the arms, wrists, and knees. I don't know what the feet are like.  They are sold for $12.99.  Not bad at all.  I will probably buy one just to check it out.

Next doll I got excited about was this articulated Skipper doll.  I found this set on-line Target as well.  I guess she needs articulated wrists to play her instrument.  This is promising to see.  I hope they will do more.

I saw a couple of playsets at Target on-line, that I haven't seen anywhere else.  The first one is a Daycare Center Playset.  As you can imagine, I love the two little girls.  The second one is an Arctic playset.

Last, but not least, is the video doll that displays whatever picture you take on the doll's t-shirt.  I have seen this doll in a few stores, but not many.

  2. thank you for this post, it was very helpful, I already bought Skipper doll, unfortunately in Poland articulated Winx dolls and the video doll are not available. as for Daycare Center Playset, I thing it would be very good, if not molded hair of both kids. I wonder what was so wrong with rooted ones to make them replaced by plastic...

    1. jewel snake - Are the knees articulated on that Skipper doll? I like the rooted hair, too, but the AA Kelly dolls always have way too much hair. It's totally unrealistic. I like the molded hair on the baby I use for Terrance and Racquel. The AA doll in this set has a hairstyle that is similar for her to wear in real life. I would probably consider painting the hair of the Caucasian baby. The bright yellow hair is again unrealistic.

    2. unfortunately knees aren't articulated, she has rubber legs, so I'm waiting for tutorial how to change legs, on this blog - http://cyanodolls.blogspot.com/2012/08/2012-barbie-for-president-asian.html

if hairstyle is right, they surely can be useful!
I think it's typical for Mattel to give dolls too much hair, I had to layer hair of most of my dolls.

  3. Winx dolls at Target! I thought they were only on sale at TRU, at the bloated price of $20. I grew up with Winx, so I guess I might have to stop by to buy Techna (purple one).

    1. Verona - Wow, $20! They kind of grow on you after awhile. I really like the purple one, but I also like the other three for being so unique.

  4. I've seen the odd-looking Winx dolls at Target.

I haven't seen the Barbie Photo Fashion Doll in my area yet. I wonder if her legs are articulated. Did you notice if this doll has the Desiree/Nikki head sculpt or the new sculpt used for the I Can Be President Barbie?

    1. DBG - When I saw the Photo Fashion Doll, I didn't realize there was a new sculpt, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to the face. I assumed it was the old one.

  6. Wow! Just when I thought I'd seen all the dolls there is to see...

The Winxs dolls are cute. I'm really diggin' the one with the blue pigtails, she's adorable and funky at the same time.

The playground play-set is real cute. The kiddies are precious looking, even with molded hair. I might have to consider that one.

I like the video t-shirt Artsy/Nikki. I would love to know if the knees are articulate or not. The rubber bendable knees don't bother me as much as the swivel knees, so she's a possibility.

This is really good information Vanessa, thanks for posting.

    2. Tracy - I really like the blue pigtail one, too. At first I was just looking at them for body swaps, until I saw the blue one. I'm going to pop over to the site mentioned below and read the review on the Winx dolls.

  9. Thanks for the info! I'm not familar with the Winx. How tall are they? The Skipper looks nice. Does she have articulated legs and arms or just articutled arms? Mattel can be such a scammer!

    1. Ms. Leo - The Winx dolls are 11.5", but much smaller bodies. They are the size of the Teen Skipper dolls, I would say. I heard the Skipper does not have articulated legs, but the bendable ones. Mattel is famous for almost getting it right. I guess they figure if you buy the Skipper that only has articulated legs (bike rider), and this one with articulated arms, you will have exactly what you need. It's sad, but a little comical at the same time. Why don't they get that a half articulated doll is just bad, bad, bad?

    2. Mattel (after reading bloggers calls for articulated dolls): See, one doll has articulated legs; the other, articulated elbows. These collectors will buy BOTH dolls! Ha, ha, ha! There go our profits! Up, up, and away!

  12. I read the review of the Winx dolls on Toy Box Philosopher's blog - it's well worth reading. I haven't seen these dolls in Australia yet but they look cute. And the video Barbie - wow, what great fun - that one I'll have to watch out for.

  14. Oh, I wanted to ask if you had seen that Skipper, when I saw her myself about two months ago, but forgot about it.
One of Russian doll collectors has done that leg changing in June already. She said it was easy. Here are some pics: http://www.forum.dollplanet.ru/viewtopic.php?p=1796504#p1796504 The text is in Russian, sorry.

    1. Dukasha - On-line was the only place I've seen that Skipper set so far. Thanks for the link on the leg change. I personally don't mind non articulated legs, as long as they can bend. I can't see myself buying 2 Skipper dolls to get one fully articulated doll.

      Delete
    2. I also don't want to buy the second Skipper doll. It's so bad, that all those Skipper dolls have the same face. The Skipper dolls of 90s were all different. But if I could be sure that I'm able to change the legs without breaking the doll, I would buy her... Maybe. A doll with articulated arms and regular bendable legs is not so bad, but I have the skating Skipper doll with jointed legs and straight arms. It is much worse.

      Delete
    3. Dukasha - I agree, the articulated legs with the straight arms is by far, the worse. We all should bombard Mattel with emails to get them to stop with the crazy articulation combinations. If you are going to articulate, do the whole doll, otherwise, don't do any of it.

    4. Mattel: Bwuhhhh! Haahhh hhhaaa ... please ... us stop? Hoooo hhooo, rich. But we're richer, haaaa!

  18. I hate Winx! They are the worst product made ever! And I felt guilty, because (sorry! sorry! sorry!) they are italian!!! They born as a cartoon, Winx Club, six spoiled teenage girls who think only two things: shopping and boys! In their spare time, they fight improbable villains with their improbable magical powers. Here in Italy ther's a big merchandise about Winx, they are everywhere! Last year they have been a hit in stores even surpassing in sales also Mattel!! The version sold here isn't articulated, they have a bad flexible bodies and a different face mold, but they are very very far form being like the MyScene dolls! Aboout Barbie, I seaw in stores Skipper hoola and the day care, they're both cute

    1. Sergio - Tell us how you really feel about Winx. LOL! Shopping and boys? Sound like the typical teenage girls. I had no interest in seeing the Winx doll show until I read your comment. Now I am curious about their magical powers and improbable villains. Too funny. I'm surprised you guys don't have the articulated bodies, yet.
