A New Suit and The Rocking Horse

Adele and Mike are due back soon.  They just recently closed on their house in Chicago.  They should be arriving in town within the next two weeks.  In the midst of packing and house closing, Adele squeezed in a little shopping.  She needed a few more items for her teacher job.

The Insomnia line is growing.  Throughout the night, I managed to sew Adele a three piece outfit.

I am not calling it a suit because I made the jacket bigger than a suit jacket.  I will make another suit jacket and use this jacket with some jeans.  For now, it will work just fine with her skirt.

I made a cute little wrap blouse.  The sleeves are 3/4 length on Adele because I used my fashionista doll to measure the sleeves.  Ooops.  It still works.

If you recall, I made a skirt from this fabric a couple of months ago.  I thought about using it with the jacket and shirt, but decided to whip up a new skirt instead.  Shocked me, too.  I like the design of this skirt better than the other one.

I'm thinking about adding a belt to this jacket.

I'm feeling like my sewing mojo is slowly coming back.

I finished the wooden rocker a little while ago and listed it in the store yesterday.   It is made of oak and has a light mahogany finish.  It fits just about every toddler doll Mattel has made.  I am working on a new crib which I hope to have done by the weekend.

The girls really want Shay to get out of the rocker so they can ride.

  1. That's a sharp suit. I think the jacket would look great belted.

The rocking horse is too cute. The children look adorable in and around it. I bet it won't last long in your Etsy store.

  2. DBG - Thanks. I think you are right about the belt. I thing some little buttons on the jacket would look cute, too.

    1. Acerico - Thanks. It's been a very long time since I've made a jacket. I will do things differently next time. It's just like everything else we do. Once you do it a few times, it's not so scary anymore.

  4. I agree with Acerico, I don't think I'll ever be able to make a jacket, yours is great!! And I love the skirt and the shirt also, Adele looks gorgeous in that suit.

  5. Hello from Spain: Adele wears a jacket and skirt very elegant. I love the contrast between white and black. I think the belt will be fine. Your sew very well. The rocker is nice for children. Great job. You are very talented. Keep in touch

  9. The suit looks smashing, and I espicially love the fabric. Poor girls, I don't think Shay will be getting out of the rocker anytime soon.

    1. Verona - Thanks. I think I will continue to make them the clothes I wish I had. I hope there is an adult nearby with the girls, or Shay could find herself on the floor.

    1. Chynadoll - Thanks. Adele was trying to channel her inner model. LOL. It's been a minute since I've made a crib. It will be nice to start doing those again. Baby furniture makes me happy.

  11. I LOVE that wrap blouse. It sets off the suit. And the FR gals are tops for giving fashions that haute couture look. Especially when the suits have great quality. The suit looks great btw.

Uh oh. Shay just might find herself on the rug. Three little ones and wee her. (Oops, another Britishism creeps in, lol.)

The rocker is super cute. Thanks for sharing it and for crafting more quality furnishings.

    1. D7ana - Thanks. It is nice sewing for the FR dolls. For some reason the Barbie fashions don't do a lot for them in general.

You and I are going to have to go to Britain soon. You would fit right in.

  14. That's one very smart suit, I'm sure it will impress all the parents. As for the rocking horse, that is very sweet and you definitely better make some more quick or there will be more than just Shay crying. Looking forward to the cribs.

    1. Carrickters - Thanks. I still don't know what grade Adele is teaching. Need to figure that out soon. I'm trying to get in the right "wood" frame of mind, so I can do all the projects I have in my head.

  15. Talk about hot for teacher! I'd let her spank me with her ruler!

LOL, anyway, now that I've gotten my potty mouth out of the way, that rocking horse is very nice. ^_^

  16. The suit is very chic. It can be hard to find buttons in 1:6 scale so I often use beads. Looking forward to more Insomnia creations!

    1. limbe dolls - Thanks. Beads are a nice alternative. I actually have a few 1/6 scale buttons I picked up from a miniature show many years ago. I'm sure I'll be using beads, too.

    1. Kenya - Thanks! I'm hating on her a little bit because it's been forever since I've bought a suit. Yes the rocker was made with a scroll saw.

    2. Yeah its been a long time since I've had a suit too. That was my favorite thing to wear to work - so easy. I would get the three pieces when it came that way - skirt, pants, jacket.

  18. Vanessa, your outfit is great! I keep staring down my sewing machine; I can't seem to go to it. But, you've made me a little envious. I'm really envious of your woodworking skills! The rocking horse is adorable. Thanks so much for sharing. <3
