Big Lot Beach Chairs and Thrift Store Finds

Last week I saw these chairs at Big Lots and left them in the store.  They were $6 ea and more than I wanted to spend.  Sometimes I am real thrifty.  There were 3 colors.  This sage green, a soft magenta and a really pretty blue.  Yesterday, I decided to go back and buy a pair.

This is how they come.

It's easy to make a small pillow for the seat to cover the hole.  Haven't done that yet.

Dang it!  I love these chairs.  Aren't they perfect?  I guess I'm headed back to Big Lots to get at least another pair.  Can't you picture a few couples at the beach sitting around a bonfire.  Just like in "Why did I Get Married, Too?"  or was that the first one?

"Honey, did I tell you they are having a modeling conference here in town?  I think we are going to do a fundraising fashion show."  (Halle)
"Good.  That means you will be in town for a bit." (Diego)
"Well, I have to run to the store.  I want to make us a nice dinner, since I will be tied up the rest of the week." (Halle)

"Do you want me to come with you?" (Diego)
"I am always down for the company, but you don't have to." (Halle)

These two seem to really be settling into their relationship.  I don't think Diego has to worry about Max.

Today I accidentally went to a new thrift store.  It was right next door to Woodcraft, the store I was going to. Didn't even know it was a thrift store until I walked in.  It is called the Hope Store.  100% of their donations (after expenses) goes to help children with heart problems. I am really glad I found them.  I think all of my donations will go here instead of the Goodwill.

I found the Barbie bakery house for $1.

It's missing a lot, but this will really come in handy.

Found some kid clothes.

And a really nice kimono that one of my Asian men will sport.

Found a beautiful mini wedding frame for Rod and Danielle's wedding photo.  I wonder who gave them this as a wedding gift.

I love this little piece.

The table is mine, but I wanted to show the scale of the two items I found.

Guess who else was there?  Jo!  I'm not sure if she will stay in Morristown.  I love her, but I almost don't want to open her.  I will see what Fern from Charlotte Web thinks.  Hmmm. I'm sure she's staying.  See how quickly I can change my tune.  Oh, I also found an articulated Brandy doll and a Black GI Joe.  Just about everything I bought was $1 or less, except for the green planter and the Jo doll.  She was still a good deal at $14.  I was thinking about the kids.

  1. Beach chairs around a bon fire would be awsome to see or just have the crew lounging in them at the beach! Your finds are cool to. I know you will definately whip the backery set into shape! The little Jo doll is adorable. Too bad i cant find things like this in my home town!

    1. Verona - I can't believe that kimono was there. I've been wanting to sew one, but I kept procrastinating. I will still have to make or buy a few ladies some.

  3. Great haul again! I have the cafe and I just can't seems to make it work the way I want. Maybe I can give you whatever you're missing. I haven't altered mine too much. I can at least give you the oven door and little white counter that was attached to it.

    1. Vita Plastica - That's why I stay out of those places. I would be so broke! Thanks for offering to help my cafe out, but there's no telling what it will end up being when I finish. Oh, that was an oven. LOL. I don't think I will use it as an oven. I kind of see this on the beach as the place for treats like cotton candy, candy apples, pretzels, etc. I did something similar last year, but I used another structure.

    2. Great idea! Yeah it's not much of a cafe....

  4. Love the beach chairs from Big Lots. I saw them there, but I didn't buy them. Maybe I will the next time I go, if they are still there. I did buy a white bench for my girls that was a double votive candle holder. If you come to my blog, you will see one of my girls sitting it at the beach for my blog header. Love everything you found at the thrift store too. I really must go thrifting more often.

  5. I remember seeing those beach chairs at Big Lots a while back. I still want them--might have to stop and see if mine still has a few left. Aren't they just perfect? Congrats on your other finds as well!

    1. mustiwait - Thanks. Probably won't take me long to get these things in use. Someone here is talking about opening a kids clothing store. Those beach chairs will come in handy in a couple of months.

  7. Congratulations on your great finds! The kimono and Jo are my favorites of the lot. I can't wait to see if you keep Jo a little girl or if you age progress her.

I'm glad to see Halle happy with Diego and him happy with Halle.

    1. D7ana - If Jo stays, she will remain a young girl. I have a lot of teenagers here who don't get camera time. Hope to change that soon.

  8. These are some great finds! I think that I like the kids clothing the best. I passed right by Big Lots today and my husband asked if I wanted to go, but I said no. I didn't find anything at the thrift store that I went to today. Maybe one of these days I'll get lucky. :)

  10. Very nice haul! I bought the same two chairs a while back. I couldn't decide on which color and in the end went with the green. I did not want to spend the $6 a piece for them, but decided against it after I thought about how I would probably regret it later.

    1. Georgia Girl - I'm surprised you didn't go with the mauve chairs. They were really pretty. I think I will go back for one mauve and one blue. I had those same fear of regret feelings.

  11. Now that is some good stuff. Those beach chairs are very relaxing looking. Big Lots hasn't had a 20% off sale in my area forever. When they do I hope those chairs are still there. If not, I'll have to try to make some.

    1. Muff - We haven't had a 20% off sale either. The thought of me making them is what helped me decide to go back and buy them. In the time it would take me to make these, I could have a couple of sofas made and sold. The $12 was looking really good after I figured how much money I would be losing in time alone.

    1. Maria - Thanks. I think we doll enthusiasts have a special knack for spotting doll items and things that can be used as doll items, in these places. I'm sure I could have found more, but I only did one quick pass through. The place was 18,000 sq ft.

  16. Congratulations on your finds! At one point, Mattel re-purposed that bakery as an apartment. I have both. The apartment came with kitchen and living room furniture plus a mat printed with the different floor coverings in the different rooms. The "bakery" part was the entrance foyer so yours may never have had an oven door.

    1. limbe dolls - I don't think I've ever seen the apartment version. Maybe I did and didn't associate it with the bakery. I just checked. Mine definitely had a n oven door. The knobs on the stove are all there.

  19. Great Kimono! I have to see that shot of the man in that! The little women dolls don't come up that often. You should keep it or sell it to me! LOL! That don't have those chairs at my Big Lot! That is a score! And some kids clothing that you don't have to make...sweet!

  20. Hello from Spain: beach chairs are beautiful. I really like for my Barbies. Well done to return to the store and purchase. I also like the dollt of the last photo. I had not seen before. Lucky find Barbie's bakery ... I think I have to go to America ... Congratulations on your purchases. Keep in touch

  21. Holy cow, these are awesome finds!

My goodwill doesn't really have any doll stuff. I don't know if someone always gets there and cleans it out before me or if this town just hates Barbies or what!

I am always on the lookout for small glassware, pots and vases! Those were awesome finds!

    1. Heather - Maybe they love Barbie so much, they can't bear to part with her or her stuff. You might want to look for other thrift stores in the area. Like I said, this one didn't even look like a thrift store. It looked like a high priced vintage store.
