Hans Brought Me a Gift!

The woodsorker's scroll saw group meets the first Monday of the month, which happened to be last night.  Scroll saws allow you to do the most minute cuts possible.  The gentleman who runs the group is Hans.  He and I spoke in length after the Saturday class.  When I arrived last night, he handed me a plastic jar with plastic hanging out, with the instructions, "Be careful."  I thought there was something live or wet in the jar.  No.  It was an ultra mini chair that he made for me with his scroll saw.

And here it is.  It is not scaled at all.  My doll persona said forgive her for looking so bummy, but she didn't want to ruin any of her good clothes in the woodworking class.  Those are Barbie Basic jeans.  They are looking quite baggy.  I didn't think that was even possible.

Hans said this was two cuts on the scroll saw.  Wow!

He just did a rough cut.  And he didn't sand it smooth.  He just wanted to show me what was possible.

So as you can imagine, I am super excited to get started.  The first thing I will use the scroll saw on are my handmade baby cribs.  Oh the possibilites.  I have lots of other projects planned.  I did get to use a scroll saw for the first time last night.  Amazing!
One of the guys wives came along.  She was a very sweet person.  She told me that I should come to the hand woodcarving group.  I told her I just might do that in the future.  Woodcarving is not on my list, so it probably won't happen.  She did make my night, though.  She asked me what I did.  After I told her, she said, "So you are an adult?"  I wasn't sure what she was asking me, so I didn't respond right away.  I thought since I mentioned doll furniture, maybe she was confused.  She said, "Oh I thought you were a high schooler."  REALLY!  I wanted to hug her.  So this brings me to my new motto!
I love my life!

  2. That tiny chair is amazing. So, does this mean your Barbies have Barbies? (uh... no, I'm not making clothes for your Barbie's Barbies) LOL

  3. Love the chair! I can see your mind churning away thinking of the furniture you will create! Enjoy the class.

  4. Debbie - Laughing hysterically! My Barbies have 18" dolls. Can you do clothes for them? What's a challenge amongst friends.

Frannie - Can you smell the smoke? The smoke alarm has been going off all night from all the furniture planning I have been doing.

  6. Heather - My little chair is so....little. It will sit on a shelf somewhere in someone's house. I think my ponytail threw the lady off. Although have you seen some of those high schoolers lately? They are looking a wee bit old.

mrscarissa - I wonder how small I would have to make the food to fit on the coordinating table.

  9. limbe dolls - The scroll saw, the lathe, the router, etc. etc. Oh no, I'm getting excited again.

brini - I hope to charm all of those men into doing something that will fit into my miniature dollhouse. I was wondering how I was going to get all of this done. I haven't told them of my master plan, yet.

  15. Aww the little chair is so cute what are you thinking about using it for.

  16. Oh good, I feel better knowing your Barbie's Barbies are the larger 18" dolls and not the smaller little 12" dolls. lol

  17. DBG - I think the scale is somewhere between 1:12 and 1:24 scale. A little too small for my miniature house.

jessikaj - I think it will be used as decoration in Shay's baby room. When she gets older she can use it with her 18" Barbie scaled doll.

  18. That little chair is adorable...so tiny and cute! I know that you are going to create some very nice pieces. Your cribs are nice now, I can just imagine how they will be with you actually creating the frames and all. Good for you Vanessa! I love your new motto. Live out loud and carry on.

  19. Georgia Girl - Another blessing in the making. When you say create the frame, what exactly do you mean? On my current crib, it's all created spindle by spindle. I am looking forward to adding decorative touches on each end and doing some curved ends as well.

  21. Ms. Leo - I can't wait to see how he made that little chair. I did get a chance to play with the scroll saw on Monday. It was very exhilarating. The Etsy shop is in for a treat!

  22. So many commets re the cute chair (my Barbies so far have a couple boxed Spice Girls but I dream of more for their future kids - I saw these weird squinky things or something - small, chubby, big head? but Mattel. Ok for preschoolers. Oh so what irl are your 18" dolls?) ... What I need to ask is re your jeans; is your doll on a skipper body????? How can they be baggy?!

Sorry, I can't rearrange the above sentences. I'm sick of phone typing!!!!

Btw, I get Internet tomorrow but the computer's not yet set up so maybe not quite - err. The boy says he wants to do it tonight. I'm excited for real Internet and finishing my site!

  23. cosmopolitan Elle - I've seen those squinky things. There are so many of them. The 18" dolls for my Barbie was a joke. I just imagined if there was a doll that would fit in the chair it would be the equivalent size to our 18" dolls. That doll is on a regular sized body, but it is the flat footed gymnast style body. It is only baggy below the knees. Congrats on getting your internet.
