Today is a very sad day

This morning I got the courage to take my dog to the vet, so that he could go to doggy heaven. It was an incredibly hard thing to do and the pain I feel is just as incredible.  Simba was his name and he was with me for the past 16 years. He was such a sweet dog. He was a lab mix who I rescued when I was 27 yrs. May he rest in peace.  Love you to pieces.

  2. Oh Vanessa, I shared your feelings of loss just a few months ago! I am sorry! The feeling is as if you've lost a family member!(really you have!) Again, we are very sorry for your loss, and hope you will find a space in your heart to shower another needy pet with your love and care. Give it time...
You are in our thoughts my dear friend...

  3. I am sorry you had to let Simba go. Pets are friends and we always want to do what is best for them. Holding on is for us... when we do what is best for them, we let them go. I still feel the lost of my cat friend three years later.... Feel him climbing into bed in the middle of the night,... expect that greeting at the door, hear the sound of him. I was blessed as I am sure you were.

  4. Thanks to all for the well wishes. I know Simba is in a better place. I'll be going through this process again too soon for comfort because I have another dog that will be 18yrs old next month. He is doing remarkably well, but when he gives me the sign, I will honor his wishes. I am reminded that God doesn't give us more than we can handle.

  5. I'm so sorry Vanessa, dogs are the best friends in the world! Simba, I'm sure was family. I know he is resting in peace right now.

Growing up, I can remember the family having a number of dogs but my favorite was Tanner. He was a Lab and Pincher mix and cute as a button. He had to be laid to rest young because he had gotten into something in our garage and well, I will never forget him. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

  6. Sorry for your loss, Vanessa.

I feel glad though that you had Simba for the time that you did. He looks like a fun dog.

  7. It's really so sad, Vanessa. But Simba lived a long life and your other dog, who is almost 18 years old - it's something fantastic, I never heard about dogs, who lived for so long. Our dog Reddie died in 2000, he was almost 13 years old and it was very much for him. My cat Busya died two years ago, he was 20, but cats can live longer than dogs. Now I decided not to have any other pets. It's too sad, when they die.

  8. @ Dukasha I feel better now. I can even talk about Simba without getting all teary. It is amazing that they lived as long as they did/have. They were esentially my whole world and I hope that all that love and attention played a key role in them living longer. The one who is 18 has 9 lives! He was hit by a car when he was about 3 yrs old, and he is only 10lbs. I stayed with him the entire time at the vets. Two years ago, he sprained his back and couldn't walk for months. I thought he would not make it. I had to carry him the whole time. One day he was healed and walking normally. When he went blind 6 months ago, again I thought this is it, but he has adjusted so well. It's amazing. He lives by my motto - NEVER GIVE UP!
