Want to be inspired by some awesome doll photography?

The Doll Republik is a blog that profiles doll artists.  I was fascinated by this weeks artist, Aneky.  I am photography challenged, but always looking to improve.  Aneky may be the motivation I need to put some time into getting better.  Her photography is phenomenal.  It is definitely worth taking a look at her pictures!

Click on the link below to see her profile.  I included a couple of pictures to whet your appetite.

  1. She IS amazing! I always check out her flickr, they're awesome. I really like that she shares her techniques too. I would love to have her knowledge of lighting and your talent for set design, and story line...that's what I'm striving for.

  2. Thanks, Vanessa!

Not to disagree, but I enjoy your photos and your videos ;-)

I am really photography-challenged -- then when I "enhance," well the results aren't always pretty ;-P -- so a visit to such a gifted photographer could do me some good.

  3. @ Tracy Isn't it amazing that she has only be photographing dolls for 1 1/2 yrs? I'm not sure what her photography background is, but she makes it seem like she learned most of her techniques from other doll people. We can do it!

  4. @D7ana Thanks, but I have miles to go. I think if I just read my camera manual, that would be a great start. Let's not even talk about lighting. But I am encouraged by Aneky.

  5. I agree with D7ana - your style of diorama making (especially the videos, LOVE the videos) are more my style. I think Aneky does a fabulous job of high fashion type of shots. Her photo stories also have a high fashion style to them (if that makes any sense) which is just a different take on things. However, I tune into your blogs like I tune into my American Idol...LOL...and I love me some American Idol. :)

  6. @Tracy LOL! You are crazy. I love Amer Idol, too. I have already set up a new scene that I will be shooting later today. So you may get AI and a new video on Thursday, latest Friday.

  8. Dear Vanessa,

Thank you for sharing this artist's inspiring work. Speaking of table top photography, I found sturdy metal and wood veneer tables 20" wide by 44" long marked down from $100 to $25 at my local Target yesterday. I've been setting up my dioramas on a plywood board over the large garden tub in the master bathroom because it has the best light in the house. The other day I accidentally kicked the faucet and water started gushing out as I was climbing behind my tripod -- a clear sign that I needed to set up my studio space differently. :-).

  9. @ Paulette OMG! I can't image what was going through your mind as the water was gushing through your dio. Last week I was considering setting up my beach scene over my tub. That way I could have the water etc. After reading your comment, I think I will find a different way. Great deal on those tables!! I have more tables than I have space.

  10. I really loved this site! I saw last week but am just getting around to commenting. Sorry! I just loved these photos. I will look at them again and again. The use of lighting is amazing! As far as reading my camera manual, isn't that cheating? LOL! As a person that loves art, I can appreciate both your style and her style. They each speak to a different part of me. From the point of selling, I've notice the best shots of an item do get a buyer. The same item on the rack is viewed differently on the mannequin with the accessories and lighting. Maybe people need to see it worked up to get worked up.

I can’t leave my dios up and have to have them down before the man comes home. I am not trying to wear the jacket with the long sleeves! Everything is planned out and goes up quickly and comes down as fast. My Colin Powell action figure is the only doll related item with any clout! I think at the point what I do contribute to the income of the house; it would be seen in a different light. Right now, from his military standpoint, dolls are the things that keep the house from looking “stowed away” and I’m glad I can help with that!:)

  11. @ Ms. Leo Half way through your message my thought was, "We need to get rid of that husband of hers." But reading a little further, I decided he can stay. LOL! As doll people, we are adaptable and used to hiding our obsession from others! By the way, I haven't been able to find my camera manual. I must have known I wouldn't be reading it!
