Day 5 after our snow storm here in Atlanta, and the city is still not back to normal. The ice is slowly melting, but it has been a sloooowww process. All I can do is look at my driveway and think "come on sun, do your thang". There is no way I am getting out there to shovel ice from my driveway. My neighbor's driveway is completely free of all snow and ice. I must admit I was impressed, especially since he is retired and rarely ever leaves his home. I guess he just didn't want to wait for the sun.
Luckily the snow storm didn't impede me working on my doll projects too much. I did get a couple new items completed, the Paisley loveseat and a Burgundy striped chair. I must admit that it was so cold in my studio yesterday that as I was trying to take pictures, my index finger was so frozen, I could barely push the button to take the picture. Needless to say, my cold studio has kept me from shooting my latest video. I really hope the 40 deg midday temperature warm up will enable me to finish designing the set and begin shooting the video. If not, I will probably move the sewing machine upstairs, where it is much warmer, and get some more outfits made.

Gorgeous chair! I love the whole diorama set up...the Williams look cozy. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope it warms up for you guys...that's no fun. I'm also needing my Fashion Doll story fix. LOL...
I hope the weather warms up there for you and my son soon!

@Afroindia I'm finishing up the setup for the next video. I hope to get all the pics shot today and video posted by tomorrow. I'm needing a fix myself. LOL!
ReplyDelete@dbg I'm glad that your son is safe. There were so many accidents here. I don't know why people here thought they could drive on ice. I may venture out today. It supposed to get into the 40s. Yippee!
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa, sorry it has been so cold in your studio. I spent three hours shoveling my driveway yesterday so that I could get out today. The good thing about being snowed in is I got to do a photo shoot with my dolls. I don't have quite your eye for set design but your pictures inspire me to try harder.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics on these two pieces. My father's clients would pick such hideous fabrics I was glad I wasn't the one staring at ugly fabric for hours while re-upholstering furniture. What made you focus on furniture?
@ Paulette Yesterday was a great studio day. I finished shooting the next video! I even cleared off the cars. My house is in the shade, so I still have more than my share of ice. Glad you were able to play with your dolls during the storm!
ReplyDeleteWhen I decided to leave my corporate job in 2003 (just not happy anymore), I went to work as an interior designer. At that time I was hooked on HGTV and wanted my own interior design business. Ironically enough, I made my first Barbie bed when I was a manager at Kodak, out of packing material from some of our equipment. Then in 2006, I ran into a lady (now one of my best friends)who was telling her life story via Barbie. She asked me to make a few pieces, and my new Barbie furniture business was born. I would love to see some of your photos!
Hi Vanessa, your story is so inspiring as it Toni Burroughs' story. I found "My Dolls Story" through your site and have read every story there. Seeing other people successfully make career transitions is important to me because my career has been in transition since 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I came to Atlanta because my brother is here but still haven't really found my niche. Thanks to you and the other doll bloggers I have found through your site, however, I have a much clearer vision of what I want to do next.
ReplyDelete@ Paulette I am so glad that our stories are helpful to you. I can't imagine what you went through with Hurricane Katrina. I have met the most wonderful people from New Orleans, who found themselves relocated here in GA. I encourage you to live each day to the fullest and enjoy every moment that you can. That was the best lesson that I learned through my recent ordeal. It has made the difference in how I live day to day.
